Brian North recalls a friend's observation that modern society has replaced God with ego worship. He argues faith in something greater than yourself is essential now. Hannah reflects on how we chase money and status while floating on a rock in an expanding void, suggesting spiritual connection matters more than material goals.
What is the best advice you have ever heard or received in your life?
I just asked a friend this weekend and it's just fresh in my mind. I said, what do you think's wrong with the world? And he said, we don't believe in God anymore. We're believing in ego. I think there's really something to faith. We need it more now than ever.
It is so true because it's like you look at this beautiful, confusing, crazy, wild, raw, brutal, incredible miracle of life. Remember that we're floating on a space rock in the middle of expanding nothingness and we think we have it all figured out. It's like we don't have anything figured out. We never will. If we don't have that connection to something so much far beyond ourselves or our own issues or even our species, it's not a very whole or complete life. Like, how could it be? We're just in here like, let's make money, get a good girl or get a good guy and have money in the bank account and show my friends I'm cool and, you know, feel safe and secure. But it's so much greater than that.
