I thought that once I became a millionaire, I would be happy, I would be fulfilled, I would feel free, I would have amazing relationships, people would love me, I would love myself, and life would be good. But when I became a millionaire by 25 and I still found that I was miserable, depressed, anxious, had no self-worth, and felt completely lost in the world, that's when I started searching for answers. Because at the time, I thought that making more money must just be the thing that I needed to feel better. And I hired this business coach, and what he taught me really wasn't about business at all, but it had a greater impact on my business and on my life than any other coach or any other thing that I have ever learned. I call it the green zone versus the red zone. Most of the world lives in the red zone. This is the state of the sympathetic nervous system, fight or flight. In the red zone, you feel stress, fear, scarcity, maybe boredom, and a constant sense of urgency. You're in the red zone, your prefrontal cortex, that part of your brain that's responsible for high-level strategy and judgment, literally starts to shut down. You become reactive, you make expensive mistakes. Now let's look at the green zone. This is the state where you feel connected, calm, you have clarity. In the green zone, you aren't hustling, you're flowing. Think of Michael Jordan just hitting every shot he takes with such ease. This isn't to say that he doesn't put in a ton of work and a ton of hours and, and miss a ton of shots, but when he's in this energetic state of the green zone, he's in the state of flow where the outcomes just seem to happen exactly as he wants them. With such ease, and time absolutely flies. You see opportunities that others miss because your mind doesn't get cluttered with survival noise.
