Short transcript excerpt from a YouTube conversation (Hannah Hammond speaking) arguing that the key indicator of success is an individual's ability to handle pain. Hammond contends that those who tolerate significant pain become successful, while those who cannot tend toward addiction, self-sabotage, and repeated setbacks; she frames hardship as inevitable and a catalyst for growth. A second speaker briefly echoes a proverb about storms and sailors.

But she said the single most important indicator of success is simply one's ability to handle pain. The people who have an ability to handle a massive amount of pain are the people that are going to be most successful in life. And the people who aren't able to handle a massive amount of pain will break and they will be addicts or they will have really bad habits and tendencies and self sabotaging behaviors that are going to continuously cause them to end up in the same spot or a worse spot than they currently are because they just can't handle the pain. That is something thing all humans have is pain. And there's going to be more pain and there's going to be more storms. And the further we push ourselves in life, the further we push ourselves to grow, the further we choose to scale our business, the more employees we take on, the more overhead we take on, the more we push ourselves in, the more storms are actually going to present themselves. It's not the opposite. The real winners are those who are truly able to navigate the wind of the storms. Learning to really embrace them.
Says smooth seas never made good sailors.
Yeah, and.
It'S funny because when you think about it, every storm is preparing you for that next storm.
