Hannah Hammond explains why having too many mentors backfires. She only takes advice from people who've actually done what she's trying to do in that specific area, not from everyone with an opinion.
How many mentors do you have?
So many.
You get over-mentored, you think? Can you have too many people in your ear or no?
The ability to distinguish signal versus noise is a real skill. A rule that I have is I only take advice from someone I trade places with in that area that I'm asking their advice. If you have a really messed up marriage, I'm not going to listen to your marriage advice. Of course. But if you have a really incredible company, I'm going to listen to that company.
You're really good in shape, then I'm going to listen to you.
Yep, exactly. And so that helps me distinguish what I let go in one ear and out the other and what I actually absorb and think. But the biggest thing is the person I'm listening to align with my Values.
