Hannah Hammond and Aaron Zucker discuss why leaders need regular breaks from daily work to think clearly. They describe practices like multi-day nature retreats and weekly no-electronics sessions, arguing that constant operational focus blinds you to bigger strategic insights.
I was reading a book. He was talking about the importance of white space and thinking. And this goes all the way back to like scripture and the importance of silence and being still and all that. And then into business and entrepreneurship and leadership. He would leave for like 1 to 3 days and go in nature or, you know, go get a hotel room, get away from the office, get away from the team, go walk on the beach, go walk in the mountains. And that's where all his creative ideas come in.
Because if you're just in the weeds of the business all the time, yeah, you don't get to work on your business.
Yeah, you can't see the forest through the trees.
I have an hour each week where I think No phones allowed, no electronics, just a pen and paper. Sometimes I sit on the couch like an old school shrink's office, and sometimes I'm on a walk, whatever that may be. But some of the most transformational ideas I've had have come from that. So anybody who doesn't do that, I would consider doing that.
