Hannah Hammond and Speaker A explain how saying "I can't afford it" keeps you broke while asking "how can I afford it?" opens possibilities. When Speaker A was flat broke, shifting his internal question to "how am I going to get out of here?" helped him escape poverty. Your words become your beliefs, and your beliefs become your life.
So my rich dad forbid me from saying I can't afford it. My poor dad said it all the time. I can't afford it. What are you made of money?
You think I'm made of money?
I'm poor. Rich dad said that's why he's poor, because the word becomes flesh. So rich dad taught me to say, how can I afford it? So when I was flat broke, I said, how am I going to get out of here? Because I was so down in a hole. That was the best thing that happened to me because I had to crawl out.
Yep.
A lot of people stay in that hole.
Whatever you think you are, and that's how my dad used to talk too. He would always, you know, what am I made of money? We can't afford it and whatever. And your belief system and your subconscious, you attract all of that into your life. And where your attention goes, your energy flows. And so if your attention is on what you don't want— I don't want to be poor, I don't want to have a bad relationship, I don't want to be sick— then all you're going to get is all of those things.
