Okay, Amazing.
So Oliver Nino, also known as the spiritual activator, is the founder of Geo Love Healing Methodology and has trained and certified healers from over 60 countries. Oliver has 1.9 million students online and is on a mission to teach others how to clear, protect and unblock their energy so they can attract more abundance, love and purpose into their lives. He is also one of the few people who can tell what a person's spiritual gift is and help them activate and access it. His teachings and energy activation sessions have profoundly impacted the lives of public figures like Nina Dobrev, Gwyneth Paltrow, Donna Koren, Demi Moore, Gerard Butler to personal development, including personal development legends like Tony Robbins. So that's pretty impressive list of people there. And you know, I think in our culture we make a big deal out of celebrities, unfortunately, in some ways. But on the other hand, they do have access to, you know, some of the best resources for their own care. Right. So the fact that they're Seeking you out is quite a good testimony. So I'm really looking forward to this conversation. And you know, today.
Our focus is on spiritual care for the purpose of cultivating, deepening, sustaining our well being, our spiritual well being, as well as our further spiritual development. And sometimes in the literature around spiritual care, we talk about spiritual well being.
A deeply felt sense of connectedness within ourselves, with others, and also with some dimension greater than the self that gives our life meaning and purpose. For some people, that might be the God of their understanding, or it might be Gaia, or it might be a principle, or it might be nature, whatever that is, but some sense of felt connectedness on those three levels. So I'm curious as to how you understand self care. What's your definition of self care in general and then spiritual self care in particular?
Yeah, so self care, for me, I look at it as oxygen for our soul, for our being. Right. We drink water, we eat every single day, brush our teeth, we take care of ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally. And I guess the biggest thing that most people overlook is the spiritual and the energy part of it because it's invisible, Right. And we, not, we don't really. At least I didn't grow up without being a focus or not even being in the pyramid of things that are important. Right. So for me, the way I view self care is like it's, it's a necessity. It's something that we have to do, we have to be proactive with, not reactive. And it is one to where if you do it like you don't burn out, you don't overheat, you don't get to the lows of the lows in your day or in the quality of your life. You are feeling amazing and it stays there, right? There is not so much the ups and the downs. You kind of are able to mitigate the downs and not really go there. So the way I look at self care is it's like it's one of the most important things that we can do for our energy, for our wellbeing that often not as put last in our lives.
So you talk about three types of self care. Could you explain each of those?
Yeah, so the way I look at it is the first type is what we normally see, what I've lived, which is very, very reactive, right to where you have, you've overworked yourself, you're drained, you've given it all you've got. And then life happens to you and you're like, like, you know, you need, you need a break, you need you need to calm down, you need to kind of like self soothe. So you do self care. Right. So a lot of the times it's very reactive, which is where I started and where I see a lot of people starting, you know, to do it. And then there's more of like preventative to where you're like, all right, I'm not really there but I guess days happening to me and instead of being level 10, it's a level 4 or 5. So they, so they get on top of it to where they're like, all right, I'm going to do self care because it's intense and it's way better than reactive because it keeps your levels of just happiness and just levels of just being connected and having that energy at healthier levels than it just being like reactive. Right. And then there's one that I strive to which is proactive to where I treat someone self care like I would nourishment for the body. I'm doing it, I'm doing it ahead of time. I'm doing it in advance. I'm not allowing things to pop up. I'm learning the lesson before I'm having to learn the lesson. I'm, I'm refueling like you know, before it's even necessary. Right. And that's kind of the way I'm, I view it is there's different levels and when you start with it, you might be more reactive and the goals to eventually be more proactive with it.
That's beautiful. I love that. So reactive, which we all need to do from time to preventative and then proactive, almost a sense of paying it forward. And so I knew you could apply that to all the different forms of self care, physical, mental, emotional and so forth. And as well as spiritual self care. And I think that reactive, I think we've all been there. It's, you know, when we're not experiencing spiritual well being, we often experience some form of spiritual distress. That can be a sense of not feeling connected to ourselves. A sense like we've kind of lost ourselves, we're not sure who we are. We just don't feel connected or starting to feel a bit isolated from others. And that could been really up for a lot of us during the pandemic. These several years of the pandemic, our ability to connect with others has really been undermined in so many ways. And then sometimes we start to lose that sense of meaning in our lives as things maybe just start to feel a bit empty or meaningless and that could be exacerbated not Only by the pandemic. But everything that's going on with anxiety around climate change and all the geopolitical instability in the world and the terrible suffering that's going on in the world, we can just kind of lose that sense of meaning and purpose in our lives. So I think understanding into those three ways that you talked about, we may be in a place where we're starting from a reactive place, but then can we get a virtuous cycle going and get into preventative and then even proactive as you discussed that? I, I love that, that way of looking at it and fleet, let me.
Add something to that as well, is because there are times to where what you do may work for you, right. You're like, you're in a routine. And this happened a lot before, you know, before the pandemic, before everything that's going on. People are in the routine and it works, it keeps them at a manageable level. Right. But what ends up happening is people forget that they need to adjust it. Because when you have external, external stimuli, right. That you can't control all over you that is causing stress, whether it's, you know, mentally, emotionally, physically or spiritually, you have to increase the level and amount of self care that you do to take care of yourself because you're dealing with five times, 10 times, 20 times more. So what used to work at a certain stress level needs to be amplified so it can, so that you can actually be taken care of when there's more stressors in your life.
Yeah, absolutely. I tend to think of self care as just living smart, working smart, living smart. Because we know we're really challenged and I think we're more challenged today than we ever have been. And even in the last few years, a lot of negativity coming our way and a lot of stress, even traumatic levels of stress. So that just means we need to ramp up the self care as you're saying. And I love that framework of going to preventative and then even to proactive. So what are some of the things that get in the way of that? What are some of the blocks to good self care.
Programming? I grew up in a family where my mom was like in a lot of ways a martyr. Well, she would give everything, everything, everything in until she had none. Right. And, and she didn't think, she would think it would be selfish if she did self care out of the blue. I mean she had such a big heart and she gives like you know, till this day, do her kids to her family, to the world at the detriment of her because like, she's tired at end of the day, worn out and affects all areas. Right. So I think programming does play a part of. If you grew up in a household where it was selfish to take care of yourself, you put everybody first, you know, you can handle it. You're, you're strong and you can push through and you know, you don't let people see you weak or bleed. And you're, you know, you have that kind of like, everything's fine and then you're pedaling really, really fast underneath the surface kind of mentality. So. And I think that we're breaking through that as a society more with, you know, meditation, mindfulness, the things that you teach and you know, people, okay. Being, you know, seeking help and being vulnerable. I think we're, you know, we're shifting. But programming for sure can get in the way of like, I need to be strong, you know, I can't be selfish, you know. And a lot of it is rules of what we think self care or when we think we should reward ourselves. Because we think sometimes self care is a reward. We don't think of it as, it's like sunshine, it's like water, it's like food. It's a necessity. Sometimes we think of it as like, oh, it's a reward. I don't have the luxury to do self care. I don't have time for it. Right. So a lot of it is our beliefs, our programming, the meaning that we put behind it. Right. Are the big ones that stop people from really doing it consistently.
Yeah, I think those are all major blocks in our culture, unfortunately. You know, I think this idea that self care is selfish or somehow self indulgent or somehow connected with the commercialized spa lifestyle or something. Right. And it's really, it's not a luxury. It's an absolute necessity. And that's becoming more clear all the time. I really like what you said about that. Well, your work, you know, you do a lot of energy work and energy healing work and energy clearing work. You know, sometimes just on an intuitive level when we're. Our self care isn't working so well. The relationship between our current challenge and whatever level of self care we're doing or not doing, sometimes we get that sense like our tank's on empty. Right. We're running on fumes. So it's almost like we're lacking energy. Right. So it does seem to make sense that energy work would be an important part of self care. So what do you mean by energy to begin with? What Is energy in terms of doing energy work or energy healing. What is energy?
So the way I look at it is it's the invisible thing that whether we like it or not, affects every single person on this planet, right? You could be feeling calm, feeling yourself, like, you know, feeling, feeling what you normally feel. And you would go to the grocery, the airport or the restaurant and next thing you know, you're overwhelmed, right? You're overwhelmed. It's a lot of emotions, a lot of information. You can be right next to somebody who's in a bad mood and they don't even have to look at you or say anything. You just feel it. And the next thing you know, you feel it in the pit of your stomach, you feel it heavy in your heart, you feel a little bit of anxiety. You might not be able to say it's energy, but you might be like that's heavy or it's a very, you know, it's very heavy emotion or vibe, right? So it's the one thing that affects us. And the way I look at it is as we were born in this world, naturally connected, right? Babies, like kids, you can see it in their eyes. They're loving their present, they're playful, like they're, they're just connected. And somewhere along the way we lose that connection or at least the potency of it and the consistency of it and the world gets noisier, right? So what I do is I realize that we, we come inherent with that and I know that other people's energies, events can affect us, right? And next thing you know, you're spending 90 to 95% of your day dealing with external energy from other people or events. And 5% of the day, like you know, in your purpose, in your alignment, in your essence, right? So the practice that, that I adhere to is making sure that we're, we're releasing all the things that aren't us affecting us. Because the energy affects the way we think, the way we feel, our decisions. If we can release that and make more time and space for, you know, who we truly are and experience that greater connection, right? Then it, it is in my mind, the highest form of self care. Because if our bodies and our, and our energies always having to stay afloat, like, you know, this person's negative, Let me deal with that. You know, this, you know, this, this event is negative. Let me deal with that. Next thing you know, most of your day is spent in survival, right? You can't even give your gift, you can't even thrive, you can't even do Your purpose work because you're just putting out the fires energetically. But once you know that that's going on and you can address it and you've got kind of like a system around it, next thing you know, fires don't even come up or when they do, they're, they're, they're out pretty quickly and you're spending majority of your time, 50, 60, 80% of your time in your zone of, you know, like connectedness and genius and purpose. And you, you feel like you're supported and you don't have a need much for self care because your energy reserves are beyond full and it's not being depleted all the time by these invisible things that drain you.
You know, I think having that kind of awareness is so important because we are bombarded by all kinds of energies, you know, and we, we tend to think we're these skin encapsulated beings, but we actually know we're energetically connected with others in the whole world. I mean, I remember back in the, and when I came of age in the 60s and 70s, I expressed like good vibes and bad vibes, right? And we all know we can walk into a room and somebody's in a bad mood or there's something going on. We know it, you know, it doesn't, something's off in there, right. We, we feel each other. We all know that intuitively and experientially. And I, and I think energy, maybe on some ultimate level, it's neutral, but it can certainly be colored with negative or positive energy. Right. And, and so we can't live in a bubble, but it seems important at least titrate. I mean some of us get really locked into the news, especially with everything going on and just kind of, I've even heard a new expression called doom scrolling where we're just, you know, going and we're take. I think it's pretty important again, not to live in a bubble. We need to know what's going on in the world around us, but to titrate what's coming at us, right? To not just, you know, immerse ourselves in all that negativity and then because we're going to be exposed to a lot of negativity anyways. You're saying do the things that are going to be preventative and proactive that can help us deal with that and not, you know, not have the balance tip towards negative energy within ourselves. Right?
Yeah. And the thing is, and I want to actually put it in perspective because yes, at the beginning, like you Know, I was about protect your energy like, you know, and simple, I think there's a time and place for it. You don't live there, but there's a time and place where you are conscious about protecting or clearing or just like being in your own energy. Because at the beginning you don't know what's yours and what somebody else's. You don't know. So the gift is you experiencing what your authentic energy is. And once you know what that is. Right. What I realized is that just as powerful like somebody can affect you negatively if they're anxious. It's also the flip side. When you are vibing high positive, you've done your self care and you are on your, you know, purposeful, connected energy, you can be that beacon of light for everybody in that store without you saying a word. So it goes both ways, right. And, and I always say it like, you know, the light within you is the solution to the darkness around you. People just have to discover it. But when there's so much noise, it's hard to discover and tune in to your own light. It's very hard when it's so much coming to distractions.
Right.
But when it's done, like you have like, you know, you've been, you know, shining your light and spreading, you know, spreading just goodness in the world, then you're becoming a, like a beacon of light, a role model for others. Right. And everybody can do that. It's just that we're not taught, we're just taught to, okay, we're going to stay in this bubble of protection forever, not knowing there's a next step, there's a next level which we, you know, we, we all can grow to.
So you've used the word light several times. That leads to my next question. Actually, you know, we can use light kind of euphemistically in ways that we use it. But I think the reason that we do is because it actually pointed to some reality. I wonder if you could talk about the connection between energy, energy work and actual light. You know, the sunlight, the light, our inner light, outer light, the phenomena of light altogether.
Yeah. So I look at light like for example, sunlight, like I look at elements, sun, all that is some people have not what I call natural energy clearing mechanisms. Right. We were born with them. And the clue is we look at our past. For my wife, for example, the way she clears energy is she moves her body, dance moves, yoga. Because the thing is, when we absorb energy, which we normally do, that's not the issue. It's when it's trapped within us and it's an excess. So some people, it's the movement of their body releases the energy and they don't know why. They don't know why they feel good after a workout or they need to work, you need to dance. But all they know is that before then they were going to explode. And afterwards they're like. Because that release. So for me, the sun is like. For some, it is a clearing mechanism beyond just vitamin D. The sun or things that are associated with the sun, like train carries the energy of the sun. But the light from the sun can clear and wash away excess energy. For some. That's why when there's no sunlight, you live in a place where it's gloomy, they feel sad or low, right? And the same thing, there's people who resonate more with, you know, the earth. That's why they like earthing and putting their feet on the ground, because mother nature can clear them, right? And there's some who love being in nature because the wind, you know, for some it's fire, for some it's water. I like giving salt, but I like going to the ocean. We used to live on the ocean and now it's salt bath because, you know, the, the water, the element, the salt helps release all this excess energy. And, and that's not even going into deep energy talk. That's just going with what's your natural wiring that applies to you to releasing clear energy. Because again, even if you don't believe energy, right, we are equipped and born with things that we did as kids. Sometimes we might have forgotten them, that natural recharging, clear energy. But we just crave it, you know, we. We crave it. We crave alone time. For some, it's alone time, it's solitude, it's being by themselves because they know when they're by themselves, they're not busy like, you know, helping and shifting and clearing other people's energies unconsciously. They can have time to just recharge, right? So for me, I look at light as one of the ways and it's a fast way of, of really getting energy from one point to another. It is a vehicle for energy. It's a vehicle for consciousness. It's getting the clearing energy of the sun from where it is to where I am when the light hits. And it's fast, right? So I use it as a. A vehicle mechanism for getting healing from one place to another. Like, like sound, it can happen, but light is a different modality and it's fast, you know, Well, I like that.
You related all this to the four elements or even the five, you know, earth, water, wind and fire. And then, then maybe the ether or spiritual energy. Right. And because, you know, one of our challenges as modern human beings is we're born into a world of disconnection and there's so many things that, you know, help us stay disconnected or prevent us from feeling that connection. And again, talking about spiritual well being, we're talking about a deep felt sense of connectedness within ourselves, with others, with some greater dimension. So one of the strategies, in fact it's been around for thousands of years to get reconnected with ourselves is to reconnect with the basic elements, get closer to the earth, feel the water, feel the air, get close to the sun. Right. Return to the elements. I mean, people going out into nature, doing retreats in nature. Right. So I love that you talked about that. You know, sometimes though, I think instead of, you know, doing maybe even what our body intuitively knows to do when we're feeling depleted or we just need more energy because the challenges we're facing, instead of, you know, intuitively moving towards the elements in that way, we, we, we, we choose other ways that we think are going to re energize us, to fuel us. And it could have to do with substances or food or alcohol or different things. And I wonder if you could talk about some of the mistakes people make in terms of not only self care, but this whole issue of energy and how we work with our felt sense of either having enough or not enough or feeling depleted and so on.
So I have a very different view on sweets, alcohol, substances. And I used to look at it from the lens of wellness, psychology, health, well being. How does it affect your body then? Viewing it with the views of how my parents looked at it and I've come to look at it on the views of energy is one of the things that I try to factor in, and my wife calls it eating. To look at it from God's eyes or love's eyes. Right. And the way I look at it now, it's very different. Right. Is somebody has a need, has a craving. Right. Let's say somebody is energetically overwhelmed and they don't know they're energetically overwhelmed. There's absorbing energy from everybody else and they're a sponge and they try to help and they're depleted. And because you're depleted doesn't mean energy suckers are going to go away because they're like, oh, you're depleted. Never mind. Typically it's like you're depleted and they keep on getting, getting, getting because you have it or they think you have it to give, right? So for some earlier on, they run or try different things that in my mind, weaken the energetic connection between them and another person because we have it. Like I've had it to where and I've met a lot of people who say, like, you know, maybe you have as well. They were, you know, you're thinking of somebody, they pop in your head, you don't know why, and then within that minute hour that day, they text you, they call you to email you, and they're like, I was just thinking about you. So do we have this connection that we have between other human beings even when we're not in front of them? A lot of times when people feel that connection, sugar, chocolate, alcohol, right. They weaken the energetic centers to where it's not as intense. It's not as intense. It's not. It's like a pressure cooker, lets out a little bit of pressure. And the thing is it does that, but earlier on they don't know there's any other way. So that's all they do. They do it more intensely still. It's, no, it's not sustainable. It's debilitating. It's affecting all areas of their lives. And then it turns into something that's like, wow, this is, you know, what started off as like an initial, like who I feel better became the only resource that they have for feeling better, right? And in itself it creates this downward spiral because it's all they use and that has effects on all areas of life. So for me, I understand the intention at times of why people do what they do. When I put on love's eyes, God's eyes and eyes of energy, I understand why they do what they do, right? And as a matter of expanding their resources, realizing there's so much more that you can do if you understand why you're doing what you're doing, right? So for me, I look at it from that route and that's why I do what I do of like how can I educate people on more ways to protect their energy, release it, raise their energy, self care. Because once they expand all the other things, they're going to realize, wow, this is faster, this is better, this lasts longer, this is more fulfilling. It's just this was where I started, but that's not where I need to end because there's more to it, right? So I view it very systematically, like it is a lack of education on how people can Manage, you know, the energetic things that happen to them and looking at from different lenses. And a lot of it is like sometimes the shame, the guilt, the self anger, like, you know, that doesn't help because it again, it prevents people from really going to the root and solving it. Right? So that's why I try to pour as much understanding as I can because I feel like the self love and the nonjudgment helps a lot when it comes to solving or addressing issues that are related to food, substances and so, so on and so forth.
Wow, I love what you said there for a moment about.
To relieve the pressure. Right? Because, you know, I think even if we start thinking about being proactive, right, about energy and self care, spiritual self care, when we do positive things to kind of build our energy, if we're not used to holding that energy, our tendency is to want to leak it off. I know people doing meditation, mindfulness retreats, you know, silent retreats and so forth. And I've had this experience myself. You're four or five or week or whatever days in a retreat and you're really, you're just, you're having some. I know in the vipassana sometimes they call yogi energy, but you're just holding a lot more energy than you're used to and, and suddenly you'll find yourself like just reading the fine print on the side of a cereal box mindlessly, just anything that, you know, leak off the energy. And in my own.
Core spiritual tradition, we use the term lung to, which comes from the Tibetan tradition, which basically means wind towards energy energy. And I think it's exactly what you're talking about. And so it actually we have to kind of train ourselves to hold more energy and then we can kind of operate at a higher level. We have more energy to share. We have that light, you know, the light in our eyes. And we can. And so if we're not aware of that, sometimes I think we'll tend to go two steps forward, one step back, or one step forward, two steps back. And I'm wondering if you could say more about kind of being on a path to train ourselves to actually not only be able to increase our energy level, but be able to hold that and kind of operate at a higher energetic level and therefore have more to give in a good way without depleting ourselves.
Got it. And I talk about this a lot and I look at it as us increasing our energetic capacity, right? Because I look at a. Because the, in our human body, like we're, it's electric nature Right. It's electric, energetic. So I look at like voltage, right. Right now in the US it's 110. Right. In other parts of the world, I grew up in The Philippines, it's 220the volt. Right. So it's different voltage. And then when you're traveling, you put different adapters so that they don't explode or they don't short circuit. So what if your body, for example, is a 10,000 voltage, electricity wise, that what it can handle. Right. And, and I've done it in the past where I was very impatient. I, I thought you could rush spirituality and, and learning all those different things, not knowing that some practices and some knowledge, they're not just knowledge. You're not some practice. They come with energetic voltage that affects your body. Go too fast, you're wiped out, you're tired for a day or a week because you're, you're burned out. Right. And, and I think that it's. Yeah, we're constantly stretching ourselves. But if you look at it as voltage, then you realize you at this moment in time, given what you've experienced and what you're capable of, you do have a threshold. It doesn't mean that's going to be your threshold forever. The more I feel like you tap into the meditation, the mindfulness, you know, holding that energy longer, it's going to expand. And next thing you know, what you couldn't do for like, you know, 10 minutes, you can do for an hour or a day or two. But it is a process, right? So the way I look at it is people beat themselves up with detours, right? Oh, I try to meditate, but then I thought flu or this and that. Right. And the way I look at it is, okay, you're driving from Colorado to Florida. You're going to get to the destination that you want, you're going to have detours, you're going to gas up, you're going to have bathroom breaks. Right. I'm not going to be like, oh, shoot, I was driving to Florida and I took a detour and I failed. So I'm just going to go back because I shouldn't have taken a detour. I kind of factor in the detour. So when you're expanding your energetic ability and or to just house more energy, you are going to have those thoughts. You are going to do that. It's like, you know, and when it happens, okay, yes, it's better to kind of love yourself, understand why it's happening. And then when you're ready to get back and expand, knowing that it's a process, it's not going to be, you know, at least perfect overnight. Right. And I think a lot of the times that's what gets people is the judgment and the comparison. And they look at you and you're like, you know, fleet, you can do this for this, this. But they don't see the amount of work and the human things that got underway and what you had to, you know, grow through to get to where you are. And I feel like that's such a gift for people to understand that it's not an overnight thing. Right. It is a process. You, you know, I deal with the humanistic stuff like everybody else does, and I just, you know, I just have a growth mindset when it comes to it, like. And I know it's a process and I know I'm gonna get there and I know I'm gonna have detours. And I love myself and do self care when I beat myself up, you know, during those times. And it helps. Every single self care helps along the way to get you there, you know.
Well, I think you're talking about one of the most foundational aspects of self care right now. Any kind of self care, which is, which is self empathy, self compassion, basic kindness for ourselves. Right. Basic friendliness toward our own being and just having that nonjudgmental attitude and giving, Giving ourselves some. Some room to go two steps forward, one step back, or one step forward, two steps back sometime and realize we're out, trust we're on the journey and keep going. And, and yeah, with that. That's so foundational and so important. So, so I'm wondering if with this idea of.
Replenishing our energy, learning to hold more energy.
If there's ways that we can sort of design our lives, even structure the way we live our lives, way we design our home, how we live, where we live, along with the various practices, all the things we can do to take good care of ourselves, rest and diet and hydration and so forth, and our relationships, all the things we can do personally. But I'm wondering if in terms of how we design our lives altogether, in terms of, you know, our schedule and what we do, but also our physical environment, so forth, how those things might contribute to the level of energy that we're able to sustain or operate at.
Got it. And I, and I love what you mentioned because it does get deeper. I mean, people can go as far as looking at where they live, ley lines, geopathic stress. I mean, all that, of course, factors in. And again, we Live in a, in a world where it's a pollution of energy to where you might have all that perfect, then you still have, you know, the wifi and all those different things that are affecting your energetic system. And again, it comes back to control what we can control. Right. And the thing that I realized is that when you're operating at peak energy, a lot of the things that normally, like, because those things, typically the way I look at it is if your body and your system is already stressed, right, Then those things sometimes can tip over and be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Right? But when you're vibing high, like, and I've seen people do this, it's like, you know, and you can, you see this with a lot of spiritual teachers, right? Their, their vibe is so high that they can walk into an entire hallway full of thousands of people who have suffering and sorrow and they will manage to lift and transmute and clear the energy of the entire room and, and lift the room to where all that external stimuli isn't like it's not affecting them, they're affecting it. Right. So it comes, the way I look at it is the beginning. Yeah, it matters when you're building your, your strength, when you're building your energetic capability to house more light, it matters. You know, you, yes, at the beginning I did, I did have, you know, crystals. I had a citrine which carries the energy of the sun. And I always had, you know, a darker crystal like a smoky quartz or a black obsidian. Because I knew, okay, this, the smoky quartz or black obsidian is going to absorb all the excess energy. This citrine over here carries energy sons. If I put it next to this, it will clear it. And I'm not having to take the excess energy. It helps me load, balance it. So I'm not taking it all. I'm outsourcing, you know, at that point in time, what I can't, right. And then I remember using, bringing in sage or palo santo and using again the burning element, the smoke, and having to clear all the excess stuff. So I, at least I'm not in a state of always overwhelm, panic, survival. Right. So in the beginning, yes, a lot of those things and mattered, it mattered who I, I was aware of who I talked to that drained my energy and I was aware of who I talked to that, you know, added to my energy. And looking at my day and looking at what were the drainers of energy, what were the things that I did, people that I talked to, things I thought about, things I Felt that lowered my energetic state, my wellbeing and what were the things that amplified it. So I looked at that and in the beginning it was very systematic of like how can I spend less, you know, cut, eliminate or, or distance from this and the ones that did amplify it. How can I make this 50 to 80% of my environment? Because the thing is we are creatures of like osmosis, we absorb from the environment. So rather than like in my mind, rather than always go on an uphill battle and white knuckling, I was like, how can I set structures outside of me in my environment that hold their own energy, that pull me to where I want to be versus always having to think about it. So I started thinking about it in that way. I'm like setting conditions in my environment, right, Whether it's people, whether it's crystals, whether it's a community, whether it's a practice, right, that would hold me accountable to raising my vibration. And so I made, I scheduled those in. I made the positive things louder. I made the things that drain me limited or cut them out when I could. And when that happens, you start realizing a fraction of what you're capable of, a fraction of what you can experience. The beautiful things that we can experience as humans that we normally don't because we're always in survival mode. So for me, yeah, I did that at the beginning. But it gets to a point to where you've done a lot of the work and you're able to house more energy and energy that you house within you.
Become stronger than the negativity around you, to where you become a walking embodiment of it. And self care is like, it's internalized. You still do that in times to where it's super intense. But it's, it's almost like your natural state of being is like, you know, instead of you being able to handle a 10 level pressure and you have to let it go, you can handle a thousand and it's like wow. And you don't have and you can house it and it affects all areas of your life. So the way I look at it is yes, at the beginning there was a lot of external stuff that I had to set so that I can, gave me time to expand what I could house, how much love, how much light I could house energetically. But once that's there, then a lot of things take care of itself.
Wow, I love that. And there's so many things you're, you're addressing there. And I think you know that being realistic about what do we need to do to set our, our lives up, design our lives for good spiritual self care and, and deepening and sustaining our levels of energy. And then at some point it does kind of become self sustaining. And you know, in some ways whatever you're talking about reminds me of the idea of the great Bodhisattva, the spiritual warrior who could be out there and work, go into a world of tremendous negativity and transform it and not not be brought down by it. But we all need to be honest because, you know, if we're not there and we were hanging out with kind of negative energy people a lot, it's going to pull us down. So we all need to be honest about where we are and what we need. But I think it's good to have the idea that I also heard you kind of talking about self care in action, right? That as we, as we get into this and you know, really embrace self care and also embrace this kind of energy consciousness about taking care of ourselves, what we need, then, you know, we can be out there in the world doing things and it can actually replenish us. Compassion in action actually replenishes us. On the other hand though, we can get into that what you described, you know, that your mother and a lot of women in our culture fall into. And sometimes in a helping profession, it's even called pathological altruism where we're serving, serving, serving to our own detriment, to the point of depletion. Right? So there is something about where we can shift our energy to where service becomes refueling in a sense. But if we're not there, it can be depleting and only we can know that. Right? We have to be honest with ourselves where we're at. But I just like, I love to see the breadth of the path there, right? And for all of us, just where are we and what do I need to do right now in terms of where I am, but knowing I can aspire to? It's not about living in some perfect energetic bubble where my energy will never be disturbed, right? It's just about learning to work with energy and learning to work with ourselves, to just keep progressing along the path to where we can continue to show up in life. I mean, I, I, for me, the best understanding of life is we're all called to show up in the most positive way we can. So how do we do that? Right? How do we figure that out? Yeah, yeah.
And, and that's the thing is like there's so many different ways we can do this, it's. And nothing, none of them is the wrong or the right way. It's what's right for you. You can have the, the monk that's up there in the mountain for 10, 20 years and not talking to anybody. But what they're doing for the world, you know, in those moments, because they understand the connectedness of everything is huge. And it can also be that mom looking at it, looking at her, you know, her child, and extending love in a moment where she didn't want to. But extending love can make a profound impact. And everything, everything in it, everything has. Makes a difference. It doesn't matter if you're that or that it could be your, you know, I'll give you an example, like one of our dear friends and who's helped, who's helped us raise race, one of our kids and watch her watch them during, during the times where we couldn't, like, and when we're busy, we're working. Like, you know, when I was talking to her, I remember she was like, had a lot of stuff happen in her childhood, like, you know, abandonment, like, you know, her mom was an alcoholic when there were seven left and they were there. She was there at seven years old for a week or two, raising her, her siblings, not knowing what's going to happen. And it was just a series of events of like, wow, like all these different things. And I asked, you know, with everything that's happened in your life, you're the most loving, caring, compassionate, helpful person I know, period. And you've got a lot of stuff that happened to you. What changed it, right? And she, and she told me it was a very.
Profound and memorable experience. Just like, you know, I was, you know, I was at a mall one day and she was looking at those carousels, like, you know, the kids, right? And she was looking at it, hoping that she could write it, but she couldn't because she couldn't afford it. Couldn't afford it. And then out of nowhere, a stranger walked, passed by, didn't look at her, didn't talk, didn't say a thing, put a few quarters in and walked away, right? And at that moment, she was like, wow, they're good people on earth. There's good in humanity. Not everyone's bad. And that simple act of kindness for that person who might have never even thought twice about it, like, oh, partners, you know, help the kid change the outcome and trajectory of this kid's life to where she was able to help so many because of an act of kindness, which again, if you look at it. If you're too hard on yourself, you might not even see the ripple effect because most of us don't see the ripple effect anyway. But you might be like, oh yeah, I just put a few quarters. But it's that act of love and kindness in action, right? Change your life permanently. And who knows how many she's changed because of that, right? So there is that. That I want to point out is sometimes it's in the simplest acts of kindness that you might not even, might not even be in your, in your mind. You might be like, oh, I'm not helping the role unless I do this, this, this, this huge grand thing. But you don't realize that sometimes it's in the simplest, purest, most loving actions that you can change your life. Profound. And you might not even know that it happened.
You know, the power of simple acts of kindness is so, is so amazing. And the ripple effect, we just never know the ripple effect could, can change the world. And you know, I don't also, I don't mean to make light or any way denigrate the incredibly self sacrificing service that so many people do, especially parents and mothers, even if they're doing it in ways that deplete them, that doesn't take away from the kindness or the service itself. It's just so, it's not right or wrong, it's just can they sustain that? Is it, you know, is it sustainable? So we need to learn to do things in a way that we can sustain ourselves. So there are many, many as you've been pointing to, there are many, many different ways to restore our energy, to replenish our energy, to build energy, to do this kind of energy work and clearing work and spiritual self care. Meditation has been a go to for many, many people. I wonder if you could talk a little bit about the relationship between spiritual self care, energy, work and meditation.
Yeah, I, I view meditation differently, right. I mean I would say a good number of friends that I have and people I've seen, they can, they do it and do it so well and it's there and it helps them. And I, and I have a lot of people that come to me like Oliver, I can't sit still for more than 10, 20, 30 minutes and have zero thoughts. Right. And I kind of fall into that category at times as well. So the way I look at it is meditation. You got to know why you're doing it, what are you doing it for? What, what is the outcome that you are wanting? Is it you want to release the Stuff that you absorb throughout the day is that you want to access higher levels of consciousness. And is it that you want to recharge? Is it that you want to get information or feel calm? Like, what is it that you're seeking? Right? Because a lot of times, like, yes, the staying in silence and good practice and the breathing and the connecting, like, you know, the intention itself is beautiful because a lot of things happen on the intention level. Even though you're okay, I'm going to try to. But you have all these different thoughts. Again, when we're connecting, like, you know, do a higher power, when we're recharging with our energy, it's not our human mind that's in control. Our human story goes away. You're now connecting to your divine, your soul story. So even if your mind is judging you all the way through, intentions, you know, exist at a different frequency, right? They connect. So even though you don't think, oh, that was. And I can't be. I can't begin to tell you how many people that I. That I've talked to where they don't think something happened. But a lot of things happen, right? So the way I look at meditation is that one, you got to look at what you're doing it for. And like anything else in life, right? Realize that that is a way try it out. But I've seen people who, when they're jogging or when they're taking a shower or when they're doing something, they get the thoughts, they feel cleared, like, you know, and I'm more of. Can you live your life in a form of meditation toward activities that you do or what you don't do or what you experience or your environment puts you in a state to where what you want to achieve naturally happens, right? So I'm more about going with your wiring. So if you're a jogger, jog. And if that's when you get the clarity, then do it, right? And if you want to try meditation, then try different forms of it. Maybe it's the breath work. Maybe it's doing it before night. Maybe it is like, you know, being. Being still, but expanding your definition of what it needs to look like. Because I've had people that come to me, they're like, oliver, I can't meditate for two or three hours, and I have all these different thoughts. I'm failing. And I'm like, there's more than one way. And you got to know why you want to do it. And you got to try and figure out what you know and Sometimes you got to build up to some stuff. Right? So for me, I look at it in a, more, more in a broader concept. What do you, what are you doing it for? What are things that you can do right now? And how can you expand and meditation is really what you want to focus on. It's a process. How do you expand? Being able to house more energy.
And doing, doing that. And it's, it's a process. So for me, I kind of look at it that way, you know.
Yeah. Well, it's incredibly helpful advice for any practice that we're going to take on. So I'm curious what, what, you know, I want, I want to ask you in a moment about, about kind of your own spiritual care regimens, spiritual self care regimens. But I'm curious what, what brought you into this energy work? What was your pathway into this and the life that you now live serving others?
Yeah, I was the least, in my mind, I was like, this is the least likely path. I didn't even come in my, in my mind. I didn't, I didn't want it. I didn't plan for it. Growing up, I was always rebellious. I was always a trouble kid. I was like, you know, I was the poster child for the opposite of anything in my mind back then, enlightened or conscious. Right. So for me, I started off in the entrepreneurial path from, oh, 2005, started my own business online. And my, my initial motivation was how to become more successful, how do I make more money? That was the, where I started. It was very, it was a very different level of consciousness. How do I survive? And it was, that was, that was the case. So for me, it was definitely an evolution at the beginning. It was, you know, I met a very gifted, intuitive, intuitive healer. And she told me, you know, the reason, the reason why you're not getting to the next level of your business is because you've got some of these blocks in your heart energetically. And I'm like, oh. And I was like, what? And I, and I was like. And I didn't know what it was, but at that point in time, I was trying everything. I was rewiring my mind, rewiring my emotions. I was a student of growth. I was literally going 100% in, in development. So I was like, never heard of energy? It doesn't hurt to try. And then I remember I met this her friend who was an energy healer. And for 20, 30 minutes, it was the most awkward time of my life. Sitting down there. He had him crystals. They had some background Music playing, you know, some. Some incense. And I'm like looking at every. Every 30 seconds something happening yet. Because literally only thing I can hear is a sound on my tummy getting hungry. Because this thing is very boring, right? So I was, I was. That was my train of thought. And afterwards, like. And he was like, you know, energy blocks are removed and you're going to experience a lot of blessings in the next 30 days. And I'm like, okay, sure, I create my own blessings, thank you very much. And then paid left. And 30 days later, like, you know, I made more in a day than I did an entire year. And I didn't do anything different. I didn't do anything logically. It was just opportunities that came and I took advantage of it. And of course, like, and I made that. And then talk about pressure cooker. Two months later, I spent all of it because I wasn't used to that much abundance. But it opened my eyes to the possibility that there's this other world to where things can happen at geometric speeds and it's energy. So that kind of became the dangling carrot that God, higher power universe had in front of me, right? And. And I followed it. I followed it and it became a huge part of my life. And what I realized is the more light that I held in, the more I had to share it. So while I was building my business, very, very successful, like, and I was doing all these energy sessions with people for free donation on the side because I had so much light that I had to share it. Like, if I didn't, I would be tired. I would have all this. I would have all this excess energy I was housing that, you know, that was draining me. So at the very beginning, I did it because I had to. I had so much. I had to. It wasn't very altruistic. It was just like a necessity, right? And it wasn't until I had kids where everything clicked to where it's like, you know what? Like, you're going to be an example for this child. This child's going to grow up modeling you. You want to be stuck doing something you're unfulfilled or didn't want to be in your purpose work. And I remember making a very tough decision to walk away from a very successful business and walk and step into one with a lot of uncertainty of, wow, you're gonna teach people about energy and about spirituality and about how to, like, you know, how to feel better when you have something established. Because for the longest time, I couldn't mix both worlds. I was in the business world and I was a closet energy healer because in my mind if people found out what I really did, I would lose business. Because it was back then, it was woo woo wasn't like, you know, it wasn't accepted, it wasn't, it wasn't, you know, the norm that we have now, the movements that we see. It wasn't back then. Back then it was business numbers. You either fit in the mold or you're out, right? So for me, for over 10 years, like, and I remember hiding in the spiritual closet and I was, I would be in meetings and I'll be talking to people and if they said vibration or energy and I heard something, I'd be so excited because I'm like, wow, I can talk with you later because we get each other, right? And so I made that shift and now it's all I do. It is it because I see, like for me, one is the highest form of self care, highest form of purpose. But when you support those, and this is my personal view, when you support those in need and when you're supporting the world at the highest level, you also get supported at the highest levels in all areas, love, purpose, abundance. So for me it's a win win, right? So I've dedicated since then a huge part of my life to doing this for the rest of my life. Because it's like, you know, it's again, it's, you're never, it's just always going to be a next level of growth, of love, of what you can house, the people you can impact. So for me that's the exciting part is the journey, like, you know, of exploring and unfolding what we're truly capable of and you know, how many lives we can truly change.
Wow, what a story. And so again, I want to ask you about your own regimen of self care, but just as a comment around this, the whole notion of energy, if our audience, if anybody in the audience is going, well, the energy, that's kind of a woo woo concept. I have the privilege of interviewing my colleague, Dr. Dan Siegel frequently and he's a pretty hard boiled scientist, medical doctor, neuroscientist, and he talks about energy all the time. And he says this is not some woo woo concept, this is current science, right? He says basically our best understanding of mine is it's a flow of energy and information and that we're not in skin encapsulated beings, we're in this energetic field of an exchange of flow of energy and information. And it's literally and that there is Biochemical.
Electrical energy that fuels our body. I mean, energy is not a woo woo concept. So I just wanted to put that out there in case anybody in our audiences, we're talking about stuff here that's real, it's tangible in the world. Science is really embracing it today, even though human beings have been figuring this out for thousands of years.
And what's funny, Fleet, is I'm very like, like logical, skeptical. So for me, this is like, it's always out of my comfort zone exploring energy more because it's the one thing to where in my mind, science is still trying to catch up to the things that are unexplained and mysterious. Right. It's like it's still trying to understand. Understand it. And what's even funnier is my wife and I did a lot of work in Scandinavia several years back with a lot of top scientists, like Russian, Russian scientists and, and different scientists from all over the world that would come and they would build these different technologies that were the gold standard and they could do the unthinkable for the human body when it comes to healing stuff or optimizing stuff, understanding stuff. And what was so funny is that they always had a.
Public Persona when they're in public, anything they do, it's all science based. It's all technology, it's all science. It's all, you know, the body is electrical in nature and all those different things. And the root cause, it was very like, wow. It's like. And they were invited to speak in, you know, in different hospitals, they were training in their own, training people on the new, the new stuff that's not even out there, that's like light years ahead, that if you, if I told you about it, you'd be like, that's impossible. It's in the movies. No, there's technologies around there to do it. But behind closed doors, we geek out because they believe in energy, they practice energy, and, and they do what the machines could do and they would. One, one, one of them even told me, it's like, oliver, please do not breathe a word of what I'm doing energetically to the public. I'll be discredited. But a lot of them were believers in energy. They knew that the machines and technology and the science, yes, could, could replicate, could duplicate, could come close, could do it. But they also were aware of the fact that energy alone, us as humans, we have that potential within us. We can do it. It's accessible, but it's easier to believe as if it's a machine, you know, so it was interesting for me seeing some of the brightest minds in science who were like me caused energy healers at one point and they believed it, but they just couldn't talk about it publicly because of the stigma of what this energy woo is, you know.
Right, yeah, absolutely. So today you live a very purpose driven life. And so, you know, I'm sure that it's a lot of alignment that sustains you, but nonetheless you're very busy, you're very active, a lot of demands on your time. So what do you do to take care of yourself, your own self care regimen, what does that look and feel like?
It changes a lot. So if my. So we have a retreat center, right? So if my wife, let's say, is running a retreat center and she's serving souls that are there and I'm not and I'm there and I'm not serving and I'm in my humanistic self, I feel all of it. I am way down, I'm tired, I'm. Because like I'm a sponge and I'm feeling all of it, right? And then if I go there and serve, I stop feeling all of it. Because the way I look at it is what you do, the vibration you're on will dictate what affects you, right? So for nowadays I play the vibration game and the way I look at it is if someone is running or in a bike and somebody wants to hurt them and wants to throw a ball, that person can throw the ball and it can hit somebody, it can hurt them because that person can see them, right? Because they're not, they're in that same field, there's the same vibration at the same time that same person, they go on a plane, the plane reaches a certain altitude to where that person that wants to throw a ball, even if they were the strongest, like you know, person in the world, they're going to throw that ball and it's going to reach an altitude to where it won't hit the plane. The person on the plane won't even know that person cried, right? So there's that and then that's when you go even higher to where that person on the ground won't even know there's a plane up there. So it won't even try to throw something because it's out of its reality, right? So the way I look at.
Self care nowadays is I focus on my frequency and my vibration because when I'm at a high vibration, right? Kind of like a lot of spiritual teachers that we see that they're Just like giving, giving, giving in the world. When, when I am in a high vibration, I'm connected to my soul and my, and my divine self, which is unlimited, limitless. It fuels me, I can do more. I'm not affected. Things don't show up where in my human story, I'm limited, I'm depleted. It's very, is a very, you know, finite source of energy. So I'm very mindful where I'm, where I fall. If I'm in my divine human story, and I'm certain in my divine and soul story, I'm serving, I'm typically good. Like, typically it's like, like that is my self care. My vibration becomes my protection. But I'm not there all the time. Like, and I've got kids, I got family, I've got a life that happens. So when I'm in my human story, it's a very different case. I may wake up and I might like, you know, I might spend 10 to 15 minutes just centering myself, whether that's silent, moving my body. I might like, you know, I might do some energy clearing techniques if I, if I need to. If I'm staying at my parents, no matter how high my vibration is, I'm stepping into an environment where they have a predominant energy. So when I'm there, I'm going out, I'm walking in the park, I'm doing things that I normally wouldn't do if I'm in my own environment. Because now I'm in a change of environment. I might take a salt bath, I might bring some palo santo with me, I might do what I normally do, self care wise, in a humanistic space, two weeks. It all happens in one day if the situation calls for it. So for me it's very fluid. I just know where I am. I know if I'm serving. If I'm in a high space, great. You know, I'm gonna, I'm not gonna need as much. And when that shifts to where I'm gonna meet people, I'm gonna be around an environment or life happens unexpectedly and I'm in my human self and I'm not high, I'm not connected. Then I go all in, depending on what's needed, right? And I used everything. I use the sun, I use the water, I use practices, I use sound, I use light, I use my environment, I use laughter, I use silence, I use moving the body, right? I use creation and serving. I mean all of it. I look at it as if you have access to all, why not, right? Because the worst thing that can happen is you do all of it and you feel amazing. So if that's the worst, then there's not really any downside to it, you know.
Well, I love that it's both very profound in that you're connecting that ability to function at a higher vibrational state with service and compassion and love, and at the same time, very pragmatic approach that we're still human beings, we have a body, and sometimes we just need to take care of that very practical way, take care of our body and mind. So that's a beautiful blending of the aspirational, the profound and the practical. So this has really been a joy to have this conversation with you, Oliver, and really can feel and appreciate the work you do serving you and that you and your wife do serving the world. And thank you so much for. I realize for you it wasn't a choice you made. You kind of got, like many of us, you just answered the call, or sometimes the call has to keep knocking on our door and finally we reluctantly get dragged along, but we find ourselves in this life of living a life of purpose. And so I know it was choiceless, but nonetheless, I know you get up every day with courage and a beautiful heart and continue serving the world. So thank you so much, Fleet.
Thank you so much for having me here. Hope it was impactful for the viewers of the summit. And, and you know, I'm. I'm excited because again, self care is something that's so important and I feel like once that is, it becomes a habit and a lifestyle and a way of being, you know, a lot of problems that we see that people are facing that are chronic, they disappear, they don't exist, they don't happen, they don't show up. Because self care in my, like I said in the beginning, it is the oxygen for the soul, for our being. So I'm grateful one, for you having to summit, bringing so much awareness to self care. And second is, you know, giving me the opportunity to just share the things that I've learned along the way. So very, very grateful and thank you.
I love that expression oxygen for the soul. And I think if we all did a better job at self care, a lot of the external problems we have going on in the world would probably improve as well. So, again, thank you so much, much and. And be well.
Thank you.
