Celia Daniels talks about why DEI efforts fail without formal policies and enforcement. Companies often treat diversity as culture alone, missing the need for actual training, bias awareness, and concrete protections for women returning from pregnancy and Black employees.
But I am curious about your work within DEI since you brought that up. That is a big piece of the work that you do. And I'm wondering how you're experiencing how that's being affected right now and what you see moving forward in the DEI space.
Absolutely. DEI was always in the culture. It was part of the community. It was always part of companies, but they didn't give life into it. It was just there. They— DEI wasn't given prominence because there were no policies. If a woman comes back after her pregnancy and then someone has taken a job, there was no policies for a person who is Black.
Support.
And when they ask some questions, derogatory questions, there was nothing like that. And so there were policies and frameworks and training and consciousness and bias.
