Ian Naismith, great-grandson of basketball's inventor, says youth basketball is broken by sideline yelling and win-at-all-costs coaching. He's launching the Naismith Foundation to teach coaches and parents a better way, and asking people to donate one dollar to become founding members.

Have you ever watched a youth basketball game and just cringed? The yelling, the arguing, the pressure. It feels like we've lost our way. What happened to the game being about fun, teamwork, and personal growth? What happened to the values that make basketball so special? My name is Ian Naismith, and I'm the great-grandson of Dr. James Naismith, the man who invented this beautiful game. And I have to be honest, I think my great-grandfather would be deeply disappointed to see what youth basketball has become in many places. The constant pressure on kids to perform. The shouting from the sidelines. The focus on winning at all costs. This isn't what he envisioned. He created basketball as a way to build character, to teach discipline, and to foster camaraderie. He wanted a game that was less rough than football, a game that could be played indoors during the harsh New England winters, a game that would shape young people into better adults. But today, we see kids burning out by the time they're teenagers. We see parents living vicariously through their children, adding unbearable stress. We see coaches prioritizing wins over life lessons. The joy is being coached right out of the game. It's heartbreaking. We're not just losing players; we're failing our kids. The very environment that should be building them up is often tearing them down, chipping away at their confidence and their love for the sport. That's why we created the Naismith Foundation. We are on a mission to bring honor, dignity, and respect back into youth basketball. We're not just talking about it, we're doing it. We're developing programs that train coaches to be mentors, not just strategists. We're creating resources for parents to help them support their kids in a positive, At HealthyWay, we're running clinics and camps that focus on skill development, yes, but more importantly, on character development. We teach kids the value of hard work, the importance of sportsmanship, and the power of being a good teammate. But we can't do this alone. We need a team. We need you. That's why we're launching the $1 Naismith Challenge. For just $1, you can become a founding member of this movement. Your $1 isn't just a donation, it's a statement. It's you saying, "I believe in a better way. I believe in putting kids first." Every single dollar goes directly into funding these life-changing programs. It helps us provide scholarships for kids who can't afford to play. It helps us equip coaches with the tools they need to be positive role models. It helps us create a culture where every child feels valued, respected, and inspired. Imagine a world where every kid leaves the basketball court feeling more confident, more resilient, and more connected to their community. That's the world we're building, one dollar at a time. This is your chance to be a part of a legacy, not just my great-grandfather's legacy, but a new legacy of positive change. So please, click the link in the description below. Join the $1 Naismith Challenge. Be the change that youth basketball so desperately needs. Thank you for your support. Together, we can restore the heart of the game.
