Building Your Profile

A solo speaker shares practical advice on personal branding and building credibility for online course creators. The talk covers overcoming fear of judgment, creating content that establishes authority, and marketing strategies to grow an online business.
Today. Welcome to day four of launch week. Lucky day number four. It is so great to be here with you today. Thank you to everybody who has been tuning in every day. I love being able to say hi. Hello, Al. Hi, Kelly. Hello. How you going? I'm going. It's Willow's mum. Hi. Alrighty, so. Oh, hang on one second. We've got there. Alrighty. So today what I want to talk to you about is building your profile. Because one of the things that people get really stuck on is, okay, so I know that I want to get into online courses. I know that I want to be able to build online courses, but one of my favorite sayings is those who market well win. And the way that you actually get your course in front of more people is to remember that humans do business with humans. And so you have to be willing to show yourself. And this is one of the things that I know so many people get caught up on. I mean, I was talking to a wonderful woman this morning who I know her course will literally kick butt. It is amazing. She is amazing. Her experience is amazing. I'm like, it's a no brainer. Like, you have to build this, but the whole reservation is around. Well, I have to show myself and I have to be willing to like, is anyone really going to care what I have to say? Is anybody? Do I really have to talk? And that is where I think a lot of people come undone. Because a lot of the time what I see is so many people that have so much expertise, so much value to share, but are unwilling to build their profile. And so I don't want that to be you. I want to give you some easy ways to help you build your profile so that you can be seen, so that you're more comfortable being seen and so you can get those results. So in that I do want to be able to say, hi, Marguerite. Hi, Svet. In that I do want to be able to say as well, for launch week, go to tinatower.com win. So if you are here live right now, you get to register and every single live, at the end of the live, we draw out a competition to win a book. And then everyone throughout whole launch week that's going in there goes in the competition to win a road podcaster. Mike. Oh my God. So if you want to be in the door to win that, go to tinatower.com win. And you can go in the draw to win that. We'll be drawing that when launch closes next Tuesday. And if you haven't applied yet, her empire builder.com is where to go for that if you're wanting to get more in depth of knowledge about how to actually grow the business behind the online courses in there as well. Oh, okay. So the first thing that I want to say on profile building is it's not a natural skill, it's a learned skill. And I think that the thing that holds too many people back is going, you know, I'm just not that type of person. You may look at me and go, you know, she can just speak live. I'm just not that type of person. Let me tell you, it's a learned skill. It's not natural. I, like most people went through the whole thing at the beginning and going like, who, who am I to like put myself in the spotlight? And not only that, the fear of judgment for me was huge. Like, huge. I was so worried about, you know, what people would think and what they would say and whether they thought I looked silly or sounded silly and all of the different things. But what it, what it does is then it means that if I don't show up, if I don't show myself, if I don't serve, then I can't teach anybody. I don't have anybody that I can share my expertise with. And so marketing is actually part of the deal. And so I committed to getting comfortable with being on camera, getting comfortable sharing my voice, getting comfortable being able to do that and the way you do that is a whole lot of practice. It's also reframing. So for me, a lot of it was I'm just looking at all the comments coming through here. Feel free to comment anything while you are going in there as well. Hello, Karen and Helen. Hello, Ush. Hello, Nicole. Oh, just booked a call with me. Excellent. I'll see you soon. Hi, Nadine. Hi, Danielle. My comments went rolling, so I haven't got to see people. Hi, Heather. Hi, gorgeous. Clint, how you going? Okay. So when it comes to building your profile, so getting comfortable with it now, one of the things that helped me the most was the reframing. Instead of thinking about myself, thinking about the people that I'm serving. And so that is like, it's such a beautiful shift to be able to make it. It makes everything so much easier. So when you show up often what happens is, you know, you'll be think, you know, what are people going to think of me? What are they going to say? What are they going to judge? And often it's like friends and family too, if you see them. Like yesterday I was doing a live, I saw My brother pop up and I was like, oh my God, hello. You know, it always makes you go, oh, hang on, this is a bit of a different thing. Or when I see my in laws watching, but all I think about is you. That is it. And the second that I started thinking about you and not me, it all becomes so much easier because I think for you to help your online business grow, what can you hear from me that's going to be able to help you do that? Because all I want is for you to be successful. That is it. And I know when my clients are successful, I'm successful. So it all kind of builds on each other. It's this wonderful, beautiful world. And so if I come at it from that point of view, it gets it so much easier because you know, with your online programs, you've got so much value there that you can share with people. And if you like, if you are the world's best kept secret, what is the point? You owe it to yourself to get it out there. You owe it to the people that you serve to be able to get it out there as well. And so I want you to start looking at it from the customer's point of view and not you. So don't think about the negatives, think about serving. And the thing that I've learned about judgment is people are going to judge you no matter what. Like, if you do well, people will judge you. If you do poorly, people will judge you. You know, the people that are going to be the bitchy bitches, they're going to bitchy, bitchy anyway. So you may as well give them something to talk about, right? But the judgment's going to happen. So if you live your life by other people's expectations, it's never actually going to stop. So you may as well do the thing that your heart is calling you for and embrace building your profile. Because the advantage of building your profile is back to what I said earlier. Humans do business with humans. And so you want to get, you probably heard it before, if you've been around online marketing for sure you've heard it before, is that know like and trust factor. So part of what you have to be able to do is get up that know like and trust so that people do business with you. Because when you're on the Internet, especially the Internet can feel impersonal. So it's even more important to have that kind of, to have that humanness, to have that realness in there. And so you want to do anything that you can to help build that profile. Jarrah is sharing in our comment box here, reminding me to share with you to go to Tina Tower.com win if you want to go into the draw at the end of the week to win a podcast mike. And today we will be drawing someone who's live here and fills it in on live a free copy of my book, Million Dollar Micro Business as well. Thank you, Jarrah. Okay, so in terms of building your profile, now, the other thing that I want to say about building your profile and personal brand and getting that know like and trust factor up is doing that does not mean sacrificing your personal life. And that is where I think a lot of people have that misconception is going. Okay, so by building my personal brand, does that mean, like, I'm just putting everything out there and it very much does not. I mean, for some people, they, you know, they love to share all of the ins and outs of their personal life and, you know, power to them. Like, if that's what you want to do, that is totally fine. The whole best part about building your personal brand is it's you. You get to be you uniquely, beautifully, wonderfully and perfect, perfectly you. And so you get to choose the parts that you want to be able to show. And for me, I like to be really strategic and careful in sharing the parts that I'm willing to share of my life so that people know me, that follow me, but you don't know all of me, right? So it's very, it's very rare that I share my children on social media. I like to keep that relatively private because for them, I go like, I have teenage sons. They're not choosing this world. And it kind of freaks me out when people see what my kids Instagram handles are and follow my kids and do that. I'm like, why are they grown humans following my children like this? Just, it freaks me out. So I don't really share them on social media. I don't share the inside of my house ever. So there's parts that I like to keep very private because I am so public with my business. And so you can choose what parts are you willing to show, what parts are you not? It's not not showing yourself, but it is illuminating the parts that you are happy to share publicly and keeping the rest of it private, does that make sense to everybody on there? And so I like to choose like three to five things that I can talk about because strategic social media is done when you're doing a combination of, you know, thought leadership, kind of post some fun and engaging stuff. Some promotion like you want to have a combination of everything. So when you're doing fun, instead of thinking, what am I supposed to post about? I love to have as part of my profile as part of my personal brand, like the things that I am known for. And for me, that is crazy. Earrings like a lot of people. I cannot tell you how many people send me, Tina, I thought you'd like these earrings on social media. Same with colorful tops. You know, I should be a pretty parcel ambassador for the amount of tops that I share, people buy for them. But it's all that association. And so if you've got different parts of yourself that you illuminate and share, it's going to help people be able to know you and associate you with those different things in your personal brand thing as well. So you want to make sure what is your brand message with that? So an example of that for me, I like to have like positivity is, is one of my brand messages is going, let's not take life too seriously. Let's keep it light, let's keep it fun. And so obviously a lot of my content is going to be around. Let's have fun while we're doing this because that's something that's really important to me and it's the way that I want to live my life. It doesn't mean that I don't have bad days like I have bad days just like everybody else. But what it means is that, you know, I'm a professional. I don't share that everywhere. So you want to think of what is your brand message. There's some people whose brand messages is the struggle is that whole, like that fight and that underdog sort of thing. That's totally fine. The main thing is working out what your brand message is so that you can communicate that clearly as you're building your profile throughout. So as I'm going throughout this, ask me any questions that you want to on personal branding or anything like that so that we can get that all sorted while you're going in there as well. If you haven't already, go to. Hi, Carl, how are you? If you haven't already, go to tina tower.com forward/win. And you will be able to go in the draw today to win a copy of Million Dollar Micro Business and at the end of the week, the Road podcast, Mike. And if you haven't applied for her empire builder yet, her empire builder.com is where you are able to do that. All right, Melissa has asked a question here. Hi, Melissa, I would love to hear about the importance of styling to start your own personal brand. Getting advice from stylist at the start and maintaining consistency throughout your journey. Yes, Love that question. Look, I am the first to say I'm not the most stylish of women. I've been known to be a bit of a dag with different things. I may look party on the top, but I may or may not have ugg boots on on the bottom. So. But I do think that appearance plays a huge, a huge part in the perception of your personal brand. And I do think that it's wor thought into that. I know that, you know, for some of our members that we have in her empire builder, you know, they will match their. When you do a photo shoot, for example, match your colors of your clothes into your branding, which is such a fantastic idea because it suits your website, it suits your branding, it helps create your grid on your social media and it helps that association. So the more people can associate different things with you, the easier it's going to be as you grow and start building that personal brand in there as well. So if you're consulting a stylist, I can recommend Caitlin Marawara. She has Sam style squad. I'm trying to. Her Instagram handle is I am Caitlin. I think Jarrah, can you put that in the box for me so that we can. We can see that and I can get that right because that it is a huge part. People will judge you by what you wear straight away. So, you know, some people may. May jump on, see me and go far out. Like, she is colorful. That is way too much color for me. But if you don't like colorful, you're really not going to like it inside of my. My world that I've created on our slice of the Internet. And so what I think is most important is doing you, if you love black, wear black all the time. Black, like, that is. It's part of your personal branding. You know, we have Melissa Brown, who's launching at the moment. She has an amazing program called My financial Adulting Plan. And she is class af, right? And so all of her clothes, like, she wears beautiful designer clothes and everything's designer. I mean, she even, like, gets out and she has designer pajamas. Like, everything's just beautiful. But that is part of her brand. If she actually came out wearing, like jeans and a T shirt, everyone would be like, oh, my God, Mel, are you okay? So, yes, to answer your question, Melissa, it does make a very big difference. And so I would consciously be able to do that. So on Instagram, it's by Caitlin Ann is Caitlin's the stylists handle on there as well. Hi, Renee. How you going? Oh, thanks, Nadine. Hi, Sasha. Yes, so good. I know, Jen. I can't wait to see Nadine's course as well. So Nadine is one of our new members in her Empire builder, which I am so excited about. If you haven't applied for her empire builder, just go to the link in my bio or go to her empire builder.com all about how to grow your online course business. So it's got you covered with that. All right. Any other questions that we have pop up. I'll just make sure I haven't missed one. Oh, sorry, Al. I've missed one here. Did you go through any process to land on your brand style or get to know what you're comfortable with? So with the way that I show up, one of the hardest parts in terms of like personal profile and branding, I think is just being you. And I know that sounds like it should be the easiest thing, right, is being you, but it is actually harder because when you're yourself, you kind of. It's easier to take it personally because you don't have that. That level of armor on. And so when I came through franchising, my background was in franchising and I was Australia's youngest female franchisor. And so I was, you know, always surrounded by, you know, the old dudes. Most of most franchisors were men in their 60s. And so I was always the odd one out. And I used to wear like the black portman's suits to try and fit in. And I would try and be what I thought a professional woman looked like. And I was always uncomfortable. And so for me, instead of trying to be someone I wasn't, when I started this business, I was like, you know what? I'm just gonna do what I do and take me as I am and, you know, love it, hate it. I don't care, like, get on board or find someone else. Because the thing is, there are so many people doing what you do. The competition is rife and someone is going to choose you or someone else based on whether you feel aligned and based on whether that person's your jam. And so if you are being true to yourself and really letting yourself shine and show up and express your thought leadership and having the courage to share your voice, that it means that you can either attract or polarize, not in a really abrasive way, but someone will know when they find you, you know what I'm interested in this, this, this I can kind of jive with, like, this is the right vibe or people will go, oh my gosh, like I'm out. Like, no, I mean, I've had someone say to me before, I really like your content, but I find your giggle really annoying, you know? So for me though, by doing like showing up as I am and showing enough of that, it means that people aren't getting above the steer. When you come into my courses, I'm exactly, exactly the same. So it won't mean that people join my programs and then go, oh, hang on a minute. She's very over the top and very giggly and very colorful. That's a little bit annoying. You already know this. So I think in terms of like being strategic, the best strategy is to just be yourself. And if you can do that, you're always going to get a better result in there as well. Hi, Penelope, how you going? Say hello to people. All right, so remember, drop any questions in the chat box. If you want to apply for her empire builder, go to her empire builder dot com. I'm having all of the calls this week. We close on Tuesday, so the time is getting in. We're on day four of launch. Thanks, Al. Appreciate you. All right, the other thing that I want to say with building personal profile is to build your credibility. So again, when people come into your world and they're looking, whether to do business with you or not, they're looking to go. Every course is a transformation promise. So people are buying your courses, your programs, joining your membership, whatever it is, so that they can go. This is where I am now and this is where I want to be. And your whole course is your transformation promise. In going, I promise to get you from here to here. This is the simple thing that we're going to be able to do. But when people are making that buying decision, really what they're assessing is one, whether they vibe with you or not and two, whether or not they believe that you can fulfill that transformation promise. And that has to do with both you and them. It has to do with them. In going, do I believe that it's possible for me to achieve that transformation? Like, am I good enough to do that? And that comes down to all our self worth issues and self esteem and a whole manner of fear based stuff that's in our head. So that's one big thing that you actually as a course creator have no control over. And you have to let people work through themselves. But what you do have Control over is being able to illustrate your credibility and getting people from where they are to where they want to be. And so that's where you've got to really put some strategic effort. When you're building your profile into getting that credibility, into going, what do your customers care about? And how can you actually illustrate to them that you know what you're talking about? So a lot of people will do it in terms of, like, you've probably heard of credibility logos or social proof logos in going, say, say you are in organic gardening and you're teaching people how to grow their own organic garden, for example. So you go, okay, if I was a wannabe organic gardener, what sort of logos would I see that makes me think, you know, what, with all the different organic gardening products on the market and programs that I can choose from, this is the one I'm gonna go because she's been featured in House and Garden magazine and whatever. I obviously don't know enough about organic gardening for that example. But the point is, whatever industry you're in, in looking at what do your customers find credible and then making sure that you're going in those publications, so making sure you're going on those podcasts, making sure you're getting media in those magazines, making sure you're writing articles for those digital online publications, being courageous enough and bold enough to get your message out there. Because like I said at the beginning, if you've joined on late, there is no point in being the world's best kept secret. You could have the best program that there is. But if you're willing to build your personal profile and market, you will never reach the potential that you deserve and that your customers deserve because you have so much value to be able to give to the world. But you can only do that if you put yourself out there. So you want to be able to do that credibility. Okay, the next thing that I want to say is focus on your niche, focus on the people that you do serve, and let the periphery do its thing. So what I mean by that is a whole lot, a whole lot of people that I see try and be all things to all people because they're like, well, I don't want to say this and you know, this person, it doesn't make sense for and do that. You are on social media. It's scary. Mary. Yeah, right. Putting yourself forward, I hear you. It's all there. The thing is, like, it's a natural thing, I think when, when you as an individual feel like, okay, the idea of building a personal brand or sharing your voice and your expertise publicly is a little bit scary. You can feel like maybe you shouldn't be doing it because you've got that too much fear. But what I want to be able to say to you is, I actually haven't met someone that doesn't have the fear at the beginning. Not even only at the beginning. Hi, Elle. Looking forward to talking to you this afternoon. Not only at the beginning, but also, like, right through. It's always and ever constant there. The most successful people I know, every time they go to level up, every time they go to do something new, they're like, okay, we have not been here before. All right, this is slightly scary. I'm going to feel that fear, and I'm going to do it anyway. And one of the benefits is once you rip off that band aid, once you just start, and once you start going, it goes up in tiny little increments in increasing your confidence. And so when you get that small win, your confidence goes up a little bit, and you're like, you know what? I was just on my first podcast. I thought maybe I might die, but I did not. So I think maybe I can do another one, or maybe I can hit go and I can go live on video. And each time you do it, you'll get better and better at it, and your confidence will grow, which will then allow you to accept bigger and better opportunities in there as well. But you can't get that traction unless you start. So. Nadine said there are amazing things can happen when you have the courage to go for it. I'm always scared, right. And most people are. Because you've chosen to live a bigger life, not a small life like living a small life is. You know, it's great for some. It's how actually the majority of the population live. It's safe, it's comfortable. You're never feeling fear. You're never pushing out of your comfort zone. It also, for me, I think, looks boring as batshit. I cannot imagine living the same life year after year after year and getting to the end and looking back and going, all right, so that was it. That's life then. All right, well, that was fun. Off I go. There's more than that. So I love an adventurous life. I love a big life. I love getting to the end of every year and going, that was a ride. How about what we did then? Because it's all this fun experimentation, and if you let fear hold you back. Yes. You will miss out on those lows and the struggle that you go through. But you will also miss out on the highs. And one of my absolute favorite sayings that I used to actually have framed in my first office, I had this framed on the wall was entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so that you can live the rest of your life like most people can't. And I love that I'm going to say it one more time. Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so that you can live the rest of your life like most people can't. And the thing is, most people are not willing to do that few years so that they can have that. And a lot of people, you know, Brene Brown talks about the people in the cheap seats will sit in those cheap seats where they never put themselves out there, where they never take that risk, where they never back themselves and judge the people that are in the arena having a go. But it is so powerful to be able to experience those highs and lows and be able to live your life like that. And a lot of people want that life, but are not willing to do the things that it takes to get there. And building your personal brand is one of those as well. El Said, I watched my friend Lisa go live yesterday from your program and she did so well. So that is Lisa Mitchell, if anyone is pregnant at the moment, Lisa Mitchell. Jarrah, can you drop in the comment box Lisa's handle? So she's running health like exercise programs for pregnant women so you can check her out if you are with child at the moment, which is so exciting. But yeah, like Lisa wouldn't mind me saying this, like she was petrified of going live. She's never done it before. And so to do this, of course it's going to be scary the first time that you do it, but I am so bloody proud of her and she's so proud as well in going oh my gosh like I did did that and it just enables you to do more and more and more as you go throughout there. Jo says, this is me at the moment. Joe, I cannot believe that you would say that this is you, but it perfectly illustrates my point in that the fear is there. So for people that don't know Joe Blofield, she's been on my podcast previously, absolute legend and member of her empire builder and is starting a new business after she's had massive success with the sales company and so with her previous business or with the business that's still running with her husband, her first launch that she did after she came into her empire builder, she made $85,000 like, oh my God, amazing. And she's just put in the comments. She's feeling the fear over the new thing that she's doing because she hasn't done it before. So never think, think that it's going to going to be able to end in there as well. Okay, so I'm going to close the competition in just a moment. So if you have not put your details in yet, you can go to tina tower.com forward/win. And that will get you into the competition to win a book today. And then everyone that goes in it goes into the draw for at the end of the week, we're going to draw the prize to win a road podcaster Mike, which is the same mic that I use for my podcast and zooms and everything that goes on in there. And if you would like to be part of her empire Builder, you can go to her empire builder.com and apply. You've only got a couple of days left, but let me know if anyone has any questions about the mastermind about joining her empire Builder or about building your profile or online business in general, just pop them in the comments and I will be able to get to those. So the last thing that I want to tell you in terms of personal brand is content. Creating content, valuable content is king. You cannot, when you are building a business, you can't just sell to people and give them nothing in return. The law of reciprocity works so incredibly well. In going, hey, I give you a little bit of value. It shows my credibility, it shows I know what I'm talking about. And then in turn, you decide whether or not you want to do business with me. And so building an online course business with a content marketing strategy works so incredibly well. And tomorrow I'm going to be talking about creating content the easy way and how to do that, because to run a really good business, you do have to be able to create a lot of content in there as well. But there's no point in creating the content if you don't have the courage to share it. Which is why I wanted to talk about personal branding in there, too. All right, we've had no questions come up, so let me draw our competition. And again, if you've got any questions, just pop them in there. All right, let me open up. I should have had this screen ready. Hold on one second. Let me just move the phone to the side here. Yes, Nadine won the competition, I think on Monday. What day even is it? It Tuesday, Wednes. I don't know. I don't know. Launch time, you guys. Launch time. Okay, here we are. Yes, I'm on the right one. I've just gotta watch this now. Let me share the screen in here. Okay, we'll get this all already. It's a little bit clunky. Elno, you don't have to. Well, the daily prize, you enter daily if you want to do that. But once you enter, enter once. You will be in the. In the grand prize one, which is drawn on Tuesday. So each day we're drawing a winner for the book, but then when. Hang on, let me get the right screen up here. Each day we're drawing a winner for the book, but then with the big one, it will be one at the end. All right, this one is on here. Let me turn you around here, my Insta friends, so that you can see this nicely too. All right. Oh, you can't really see it very well, but here we go. Let's zoom in there. We'll tap it. We'll see who's in. Oh, hang on. There we go. All right, we're going. And Alison Randall, well done. You are the winner today. So you will get a copy of Million Dollar Micro Business and a bit of a swag pack for Million Dollar Micro Business in there as well. So that will be on the way. And everybody else is in the draw to win the grand prize, which has Million Dollar Micro Business, swag pack, her Empire Builder hat, her Empire Builder bottle, and a road podcast, I'm like. Which will be so much fun. So if you haven't joined Her Empire Builder yet and you're looking for it, go to her Empire Builder dot com. It really is the best program in the world to be able to be your online digital course business. I have absolutely no doubt in being able to say that. So if you're interested in content, I'll see you same time tomorrow. And I'll be talking about some easy ways that you can do all of the content in your business that you need to be able to do. All right, thanks, everyone. Have the best day. Bye. All right, and then over to Facebook. Thank you, everybody.
