A personal reflection on learning to say no to misaligned commitments. The speaker shares how declining work that doesn't fit their vision prevented burnout and resentment, and argues that setting boundaries is essential for real growth.
In the early stages of business, I said yes to everything. And honestly, I think it was the right move at the time. Saying yes helped me build momentum. I got all the experience, exposure. I figured out what I loved, and I definitely figured out what I didn't. But in business, there's always a turning point where, you know, the saying, what got you here won't get you there. And for me, that meant starting to say no. Because constantly saying yes was leaving me feeling over committed, exhausted, and honestly, a little resentful. I'd show up to things that no longer lit me up, feeling drained before I even got there. I was doing too much for too many people and putting my own vision on hold. Can you relate saying no? I think it can be hard, especially when you're someone who cares, when you don't want to let people down. But I've learned every yes to something misaligned is a no to the things that truly matter. Yes builds momentum, no builds freedom. And your resentment, that's a signal that something needs to shift. Every time I'm feeling that resentment building, I know it's no longer working. So if you're feeling stretched thin and you are secretly dreading the commitments on your calendar, this is your sign. You're allowed to grow into a new season. And that starts with saying no. Go say no to something.
