+1 #821: The Bridge

Johnson emphasizes crossing that bridge one disciplined action at a time, linking habits to future outcomes and urging listeners to choose actionable daily habits.

Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to another Optimize plus one. A few plus ones ago, we talked about John Maxwell and his wisdom that if we want to change our lives, we need to change something we do every day. Today we're going to step back and look at the broader context from which we pulled that gem. In the 15 invaluable laws of Growth, John tells us, I quote, you will never change your life until you change something you do daily. He says that means developing great habits. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. That bridge must be crossed every day. And over time, that daily crossing becomes a habit. And ultimately, people do not decide their future. They decide their habits and their habits decide their future. Now, I'd like to shine a very bright line on this line. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments, and that bridge must be crossed every day. Isn't that a beautiful metaphor? You see your goal over there? Well, guess how we're going to reach it? We'll bridge the gap one disciplined brick at a time. How often will we build and cross that bridge? Every day. And this line is worth a very bright spotlight as well. He says, ultimately, people do not decide their future. They decide their habits, and their habits decide their future. That's today's plus one. What habits are you deciding on? Here's to your epic Bridge. And P.S. that whole chat reminds me of one of my favorite plus ones I think you might enjoy in this context, called your dreamer plus your doer. We've got a link to it in the plus one and a little PPS here. Here's one more gem from John. He tells us, quote, the difference between where we are and where we want to be is created by the changes we are willing to make in our lives. When you want something you have never had, you must do something you've never done to get it. Otherwise, you keep getting the same results.
