Brian Johnson walks through his final mastery module: Practice Your Philosophy. He uses Alexandra's sleep data and Phil Jackson's coaching approach to argue that virtue only matters when you actually live it, moment to moment. The core algorithm: listen to your daimon, flip the switch, bring focused energy to this moment.

You're listening to Optimize with Bryan Johnson. More wisdom in less time. Hey guys, what's up? This is Bry. Today's number one. We're starting with aura as always, but we've got a friend we're inviting to the party. We're going to talk about Alexandra's aura score from this morning. Just ridiculous. I'm a competitive guy and she just destroyed me this morning. So happy, so excited for her. I'm also excited to share what I'm working on right now. I'm going to hit the studio today and do the final module of our 300 day mastery series, module seven, which is also module infinity. Practice your philosophy. So I'll give you a walkthrough of that. Of course. I started my day with the wins and with the journaling. So the big goal I'm going after my wildly important target, the virtue compass, wisdom, self, mastery, courage, love, hope, gratitude, curiosity, zest. And then my big three times two athlete, philosopher, soulmate, discipline, prolific, connected, and what I'm going to do today to be the best version of myself, etc. Here's a funny little testimonial I just got to share because it's funny. An app review that $12.99 a month for all of this is absurd. Let me laugh out loud. I've learned more in the past few weeks of listening to Brian and his team than I have in the past year. Very thankful, very inspiring and I'm very grateful. Thank you for that kind. No. Anyway, again, we want to feast on our hero bars this morning. My aura. What are yours? Are you feasting on your wins? Do so. So my readiness. Pretty steady. 89. Sleep 90. Happy about that. Dropping a little bit of my heart rate variability over the last few days. I'm working really hard, excited to make sure I'm recovering properly, but super happy about it. Sleep was a 90. That's awesome. Efficiency was pretty good. Got a lot of REM and deep sleep, etc. Happy about that actually. Got up in the middle of the night. Doesn't really account for it. Here I was up a little bit more than what this says and I practice my philosophy when I write get up, then I what? Then I say thank you, thank you, thank you. Think about what might have contributed to me getting up. I had a pretty active day and I was active pretty late with a coaching session with my Yoda, which made my brain hop. But anyway, today's aura, we're taking a tour of Alexandra's personal best. She had a 98 if you know anything about Oura rings, you know that a 98 is ridiculous. I don't think I've ever hit 98. I've gotten to 96 for sure. Maybe I've gotten to 97. I'm pretty sure I haven't gotten to 98. Excellent sleep. That's amazing. So I want to just give you a quick little tour of her scores and also how she's improved as we moved like two and a half months ago and we've really gone to the next level on our practices. So I'm going to see if I can share that with you. So that heart rate variability average of 87 is literally crazy. I've hit 100, which is equally crazy a few times. But check it out on aura. You can look at where you are, where you were the last day, but you can also look at your monthly trending. So look at her trending. Her monthly average now is 69. That went up from 55, which went up from 44 before we moved. We moved June 1st and you can kind of see it going up. She was actually really sick in December, so it was quite low heart rate variability wise, which again is why it's such a good measure of how you're doing and your recovery, Parasympathetic nervous system, et cetera. But her gains are crazy. From 40 in April to 69, that's 30, that's like nearly 75%. So I'm celebrating her. That's amazing. Heart rate did the same basic thing. It's gone down not quite as radically, but nearly 5%. 55 to 50. Actually it is, I'm sorry, 10%. That's amazing. What is she doing that's working well right now? She actually did a two day, like a 60 hour water fast. This was the day after she finished that. So she did two day water fast, then she had a normal day, then she got this the next morning. It doesn't get much better than that. Average of 87, max of 140. That's again just astonishing. Your heart rate was low and it stayed low. But then check out her sleep. This is ridiculous. Sorry, I'm just having fun celebrating what we can all aspire to. She was in bed for nine hours and 20 minutes, but slept for eight hours and 50 of it. 95% sleep efficiency is ridiculous. She got three hours of deep sleep last night. I don't even know how that's possible. Deep recovery. Deep recovery. So again, whatever data you use to track your well being, whether that's a simple pen and paper or technology like an Oura Ring or Fitbit or whatever. Check in 1, 2, 3. What's working? Do more of that. What needs work, Optimize that. Then what will you do today to crush it? So all of that leads us to what I'm working on right now, which is, as I said, the final module in our mastery series, which is the cornerstone of our coach program. So after we go through and I'll give you the overview tomorrow, but module 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, we come back to where we started. And the main lesson for today is how I ended my coaching session with Phil Stutz yesterday. So I'm on right now and I'm just feeling it. And we were talking about that and we were talking about how to maintain kind of a next level performance for me. And the moral of the story was, and we ended our chat with the very end. He said, you know, I love you, son. We playfully, he's my spiritual father. I'm his son. I love you, son. I'm proud of you. It's kind of how we end every chat. But right before that, he said, almost like a mantra three times, apply this, apply this, apply this. Live your philosophy. Which is amazing because that's exactly what I'm going to teach in this session. I'm going to say, look, we've done all this work to move from theory to practice to mastery. Guess what? You need to practice your philosophy when moment to moment to moment. That's the entire essence of our philosophy. To move from theory to practice to mastery, to operationalize virtue and live with arete and express the best version of yourself, which is what our mastery series is all about. You have to apply this, apply this, apply this. So he shared that with me and then I ended my call at 5:50 my time, right? And I have 10 minutes before I check in for dad duty and connect with the family. Going from deep work to deep love. Now, I spent that 10 minutes meditating, right? So I hopped on our PEMF machine and did a Nano V thing on it. And I'm looking for a little quote here. And then I meditate for 10 minutes and the kids are out, right? So I go and check. Yeah, the car's out. Alexander took him out. So I got a little extra bonus time. So I hop back on the PEMF machine and I pull up my music stand so I can watch the last dance. A few minutes of it, kind of my dessert for the day. While Alexander's out, I turn it on. It's episode five, midway through it literally like 10 seconds into me watching this particular session, Phil Jackson comes on. They've won one championship, but he says, you're only a success. They're going after their second championship. And what he had the team embody was this wisdom, which happens to be precisely what I'm trying to coach our coaches to get. You're only a success in the moment. You perform a successful act, you have to do it again. And I'll offer end again and again and again. And that's what made Phil Jackson's Bulls great. That's what made his Lakers great. He operationalized this fundamental truth of life, which is the only moment that ever matters is this moment right now. And you need to close the gap between who you're capable being and who you're actually being. And you don't get off the hook because you do at this moment. Congratulations. Guess when you got to do it again. This moment. This moment. This moment. You need to practice your philosophy. So that's how I'm going to start this class. I thought that was a wonderful wink from the optimizing gods. Ah, perfect. Let's go. So anyway, we're going to walk through eudaimonology, Hero ology, the big three times two. This is the class. I'm going to hold this up. That is literally the entire 300 day program. And I went through it all again this morning. I am so proud of it and I'm so excited about it. And I'm so honored that I got to spend 300 days with our second class of coaches. Yeah. And just so inspired. And Again, Coach, Class 3 starts in like less than two weeks. If you're feeling it, come join us. Optimize me, coach. You can learn more, whatever. Not trying to sell anybody, but if you are feeling it, I think you'll love it. Half of the people who do it want to be coaches. The other half just want to go to the next level. They want to truly master themselves and this is how we help them do it. Una monology Hero ology. Big three times two. Carpe diem algorithms. The fundies. I'll walk through that tomorrow. And then again, we arrive at the end, which is really the beginning. So we are symbols in O. If you look at our app, it's an O. So I'm going to say, look, you started here, you went all the way through the program, 300 days and boom, you return right where you began. One big beautiful O. And guess what? That goes on for infinity. You're never out of that loop. This is Just how it works. Practice your philosophy. We're going to challenge our coaches to create their own handbook to have this wisdom ready at hand. What are the top 10 big ideas that they gained from our 300 days together? Well, how are they going to change their life fundamentally? Moving from a librarian collecting ideas in their minds to a warrior putting these ideas to work in their life? So what are your best tools? What are the weapons you've gained from our work together? Then we're going to talk about our soul force equation, which is really what it's all about. Our soul force equation is time, which is right this moment. You need to bring your energy and focus that on what's important right now. E, F W I N energy focused on what's important right now. Consistently. Now, if you do the math and you get from one to a hundred on energy focus and what's important now, that's a million. A hundred times 100 times 100 is a million. You put that to the power of 100. The answer literally in your Google or scientific calculator is infinity. That's where we want to play. Now, in my conversation with Phil yesterday, we were talking about how to connect to the infinite power of what he calls the field. Right? He says that this is the realm of God. This little circle right here, that's our God Zeus barking right now. This circle is you and the material world. You need to meet God right here at the nexus point. You do that in our philosophy by being the best version of yourself. But he says you can't do that unless you're going even past what you think you're capable of being. Right? You have to go past what you think you're capable of being. Then the gods meet you. And at that nexus point, 101. So we go just one inch further than what we think we're capable of doing. Living with a sense of urgency and intensity. I'm going to share a couple of quotes in the class. This is one of them. Guy named Walter Russell, who wrote a book called the man who Tapped the Secrets of the Universe tells us early in life, I found that to achieve greatness, one had to go only one inch beyond mediocrity. But that one inch is so hard to go that only those who become aware of God in them can make the grade. For no one can achieve that one inch alone. So we've got to meet God. We've got to have the divine within us enthus, shine through. We do that by honoring these basic fundamentals, being in integrity. And then Boom. Whereas Desmond Tutu says, the light bulb that's screwed into God, our job is stay screwed in. Then we're going to have fun. We started our program by saying, you need to make a decision when you enter the dojo. Do you want to go for mastery or do you want to go through the motions? Makes a difference. You just want a white belt or do you want to go for a black belt? Well, at the end, we're going to have a dojo ceremony at our graduation. We literally give everyone a blue T shirt. We playfully say, here's your blue belt. Congratulations. You went up one level. You want a black belt, you need to train even harder. We put people through a lot of hard work and we say, good luck. Congratulations. Train harder. Start again. Let's go. What? Practice your philosophy. We've got some exercises that we do. We send them to heaven, where we imagine you connecting with the best version of yourself. What do they have to tell you about what they've learned? Then we have you go to hell. Hell, some people say, is ending your life. Right before you take the last breath, you see who you could have been. In walks the best version of you that you did not become. Oh, my God. And now it's too late to do anything about it. Hell. Good news is, it's not too late to do something about it. You can change your life right now by stepping into and being the best version of you. Then we have them attend a eulogy where people they love talk about them, energy, work and love wise, super powerful reflection exercises that we'll go through. But then ultimately, the number one action, to move from theory to practice to mastery, you have to take action, obviously. So our ultimate algorithm, which is a key part, we spend a whole month on algorithms. Self mastery 101. Using your willpower wisely to install habits that run on autopilot. We help them install the best habit that can change their life and get rid of the kryptonite. But the ultimate algorithm is this. If you're daimon, the best within you tells you something. Listen, the wisdom is always already there. Then flip the switch. I just did it myself. That's when you assume a kind of a Clark Kent to Superman posture. You get up, you have Amy Cuddy's presence pose. You assume the posture of the best version of yourself. Take a nice deep breath in through your nose, down into your belly, out through your nose, slightly longer exhale, and boom, you're ready to give life everything you got. You flip the switch. So if you Yudaimon Daimon says something to you. You listen. Then you flip the switch. Then you go. Bring all the Soul Force you've got to the only moment that matters right now. That's the ultimate algorithm. That's how you win the ultimate game. And experience all the joy and satisfaction of flourishing and actualizing your potential. In service to the world so you can serve heroically. Empower others to do the same, so we can change the world together. One person at a time. Starting with you and me today. Let's do this. Make today an awesome day. And may we all aspire. There's Emerson in his little cowboy outfit. That's pretty seaweed, huh? To this level of excellence. Go Alexandra. Crushing it.
