Alex Korb, Ph.D on the Value of Controlling What We Can Control
17 Dec 2025 · 0 min
Alex Korb uses stand-up comedy as an analogy to explain why controlling what you can control matters more than worrying about outcomes. The session focuses on accepting your limitations so you can focus your energy on the actions and presence that are actually in your hands.

Attitude. To some extent you can control your actions and your presence. This is something I learned in stand up comedy. You can't your goal, it might be very important for you to make the other people laugh in the audience. You literally have no control over that. All you can do is, you know, your energy that you're bringing to the stage and being authentic to what you think is funny. And guess what? Like, if you're authentic and funny, like, well, they're probably going to laugh. Like, if you're not those things, they're almost certainly not going to laugh. But like, even if you're authentic and you're bringing your energy or whatever and they still don't laugh, well, okay, then they don't. They have a different sense of humor. That's fine. Like, and one of the most difficult things to accept about ourselves is our own limitations. That you don't have an infinite inability to to be everything or have infinite energy and like, that's an uncontrollable, like, where your level falls, you know what your limitation is, whatever, wherever it is we have, you have a limitations. And accepting that is really powerful because once you accept where your limitation is and like, oh, I can't do anything about that light right at this moment, maybe I could work on it at another time or whatever, but I can't do anything about it right at this moment. Oh, then it frees you up. It frees up your attention to focus on this whole world of things that you can do something about. And that is energizing and freeing.
We hope you enjoyed that. Part of a live coaching session from the Optymyze Coach program. For more info, head to Optimize Me coach.
