A short podcast/minichapter from Brian Johnson's A Philosopher's Notes in which Johnson relays Reverend Michael Beckwith’s metaphor of 'spiritual farts' to argue that studying spiritual truths without practicing them leads to 'spiritual indigestion'—practice, not only theory, is required. The piece ends with a recommendation to read Beckwith and subscribe to Johnson's newsletter.

Spiritual Farts? Yes, spiritual farts. Reverend Michael Beckwith tells us that if we simply study and talk about spiritual truths but never actually live this stuff, we're going to get spiritual indigestion and constipation. Spiritual farts. It's not a pretty thing. Seriously. As the good Reverend and countless other teachers tell us, theory is rudimentary spirituality practice. Actually living it. That's the advanced stuff. So if you have some gas, please quit stinking up the room and start living your truths, will you? Thank you. Amen. We've got another footnote here. Michael Beckwith rocks. He created the transdenominational Agape International Spiritual center in LA and wrote Spiritual Liberation, where I got this idea. Check out the philosopher's note in the book for more goodness. And if you're in LA and feeling it, check him out. The man is plugged in.
