A short mini-chapter podcast by Brian Johnson criticizing historical and modern medical practices. Using the anecdote that George Washington was heavily bled before his death, Johnson argues that many accepted medical interventions (bloodletting historically; surgeries, chemotherapy, amputations today) may later be viewed as barbaric. He promotes strengthening the immune system and lifestyle changes—diet (whole plant-based foods) and exercise—as cures for many chronic diseases, specifically claiming rapid reversal of type 2 diabetes and criticizing the profit motives of the medical industry. The segment ends with promotion of his book and newsletter.

You're listening to Optimize with Bryan Johnson. More Wisdom in Less Time. This is a mini chapter from Brian's book A Philosopher's Notes. You can find it on Amazon. Bloodletting and Modern Medicine did you know George Washington was drained of half his blood before he died of complications from strep throat? Yep. Is it just me or is that weird? Hard to believe that some of the most brilliant, successful and respected allopathic doctors of his era, remember this was only 200 years ago, were convinced that bleeding this great man of half his blood was the absolute best way to cure him. I'm scratching my head in bewilderment again. Seems a little barbaric from today's perspective, eh? Now you might want to keep that in mind the next time you accept the almighty proclamations of your extremely well educated, invariably well intentioned, yet often remarkably misguided doctor. And please join me in a silent prayer that it doesn't take another 200 years for our current methods of treating cancer. Cut the tumor out, poison her with chemotherapy and radiation or heart disease. Saw open his breastplate and inflate the arteries and diabetes cut off that annoying limb as we watch him go blind to be seen in the same barbaric light as good old bloodletting. P.S. of course I'm not against all instances of sophisticated invasive responses to advanced health challenges. But here's the really annoying part. We already have a cure for the stuff that's killing us. It's called a healthy immune system. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as profitable for those seeking immediate profits at the expense of the greater economy in our world's well being to sell a new set of lifestyle choices rather than another bottle of pills or expensive cutting edge treatments. PP asks one more thing. Did you know we can easily cure most cases of type 2 diabetes in days? Yep, just get someone off all the stuff that's causing the insulin imbalance, the sugar, animal products, refined foods, and get them eating what our bodies were made to consume. An abundance of nutritionally dense whole foods. Then add some exercise and voila. Diabetes is cured. Unfortunately, because they haven't found a profitable little pill that can magically solve the problem, the medical industry has deemed diabetes incurable. All caps. Why aren't more people infuriated by that nonsense? Ahem. PPPS Same rant applies to heart disease. Why we'd rather have radical surgeries than quit eating the stuff that's killing us is baffling. Very, very baffling. I'm scratching my head again and I'm now Stepping off the soapbox. We hope you enjoyed this mini chapter from Brian's book, A Philosopher's Notes.
