APN97 - Being in Integrity vs. Disintegrating
17 Dec 2025 · 3 min
Brian Johnson introduces entheosis, the tenth principle from A Philosopher's Notes: aligning yourself with a creative force and living in radiant integrity. He contrasts being in integrity with disintegrating, arguing you choose between them moment by moment, and strings together quotes from Emerson, Thurman, Nin, and Rand on the power of showing up as yourself.

You're listening to Optimize with Bryan Johnson. More Wisdom in Less Time. This is a mini chapter from Brian's book, A Philosopher's Notes. You can find it on Amazon. Now we're moving into the final element of optimal living. The tenth principle, entheosis. We will begin with a handful of my favorite quotes that captured the energy of this section. First, Ralph Waldo Emerson. He says, when nature has work to be done, she creates a genius to do it. Howard Thurman says, don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. Anais Nin tells us. Then the time came when the risk it took to remain tight in a budget was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Ayn Rand tells us, anything may be betrayed, anyone may be forgiven, but not those who lack the courage of their own greatness. From Apple, we get the classic here's to the crazy ones. The misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are. Are the ones who do. Amen to that. And Theos, Spirit, God, divine intelligence, universal mind, whatever you call that ineffable force that beats our hearts and keeps the planets in line, it's a very good idea to align with it. When we do that, God or Theos is within us. N as we shine with a radiant enthusiasm that lights up our world. The first mini chapter in the Entheos section is Being in Integrity versus Disintegrating. As you might have noticed, at this stage, I'm a big fan of living in integrity with our highest values. Here's another way to look at it. We're either in integrity or we're disintegrating. When we violate our own deepest truths, it's like we're literally breaking down from within. Eek. So remember, be in integrity or disintegrate. The choice is ours. Moment to moment to moment. We hope you enjoyed this mini chapter from Brian's book, A Philosopher's Notes.
