A short podcast by Brian Johnson reflecting on clarity of passion and purpose for making important life changes. Johnson references Bill Beswick’s advice to define what you want, how badly you want it, and what you’ll endure, links this to ‘whoop it’/Rethinking Positive Thinking methods, and highlights Matt Fitzgerald’s book How Bad Do You Want It? using Steve Prefontaine as an exemplar; closes with the Prefontaine quote and a call to action: ‘Be somebody and go pay the price today.’

Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to another heroic one. In our last one, we took a quick look at some wisdom from Bill Beswick's great book Changing youg Story. More specifically, we chatted about what you really want and how badly you want it and what price you'll need to pay to get it. As you may recall, Bill put it this way, to make an important change in your situation. The important thing is to establish clarity of passion and purpose, the reason why you want to change and where you want to get to do this, he says. I always start my mentoring support by asking a client three key what do you want? How badly do you want it? And how much are you willing to suffer? He says the answer to these questions form the foundation for a behavioral drive to change and improve. A key part of my work is to help clients connect the reason why, what they want to achieve with their how the plan to make it happen. Of course, as you know, if you've been following along, science says that one of the best ways to walk through that process to make our dreams a reality is to whoop it. Check out a one we link to in our notes on Rethinking Positive Thinking for more on the power of knowing what you want, knowing why you want it, then taking the time to identify the obstacles you'll face and and mapping out a plan to dominant. And Matt Fitzgerald actually wrote an entire book on this subject, appropriately called How Bad do youo Want It Now Fitzgerald uses the legendary runner Steve Prefontaine as a case study in the book. In fact, an iconic picture of Prefontaine is on the COVID of the book, which makes me think of a poster I saw on the wall of Joe diseno's wrestling gym where when I visited him a couple months ago in Orlando, it has a Prefontaine quote on it. This poster does. On the poster, Prefontaine says no matter how hard you train, somebody will train harder. No matter how hard you run, somebody will run harder. No matter how bad you want it, somebody will want it more. I am somebody. End quote. I love that. And that's today's plus one. What do you want? How bad do you want it? What price will you need to pay? Be somebody and go pay the price today.
