A short excerpt from Brian Johnson (YouTube) giving practical advice for hitting ambitious targets: define your ideal outcome ("wave a wand"), list obstacles and create a plan, expect and welcome failures, celebrate wins, mentally replay mistakes to rehearse doing them right (turn errors into extra practice), and recommit daily while tracking progress and taking notes.

We want to know what our target is. So the target is, what if you could wave a wand? What's your ideal? Well, my wish would be this. The outcome would be this. The obstacles would be this. My plan is this. Perfect. You got an ambitious goal. That's step one. Then what's going to happen? You're going to fail. Perfect. So feast on it. When you do it right, so recognize when you're winning and say, boom. That's like me. I just did the thing I hope to do. Wonderful. That's fantastic. And then when you fall short, go back to the moment where you made the mistake and replay it in your head, giving yourself the opportunity to see yourself doing it right. Then you get another rep in, even when you made the mistake and you alchemize it. And then, just to state the obvious, I'd want to make sure that you have targets such that every morning you're recommitting to being whatever it is you're being, but simply bringing that to your attention more and more often. Celebrate how far you've come. Keep on taking notes and keep on trying to get a little bit better.
