Bling vs. Being Goals

Brian Johnson argues we chase the wrong goals. Buying stuff doesn't stick, but building habits does. Focus on who you want to become, not what you want to own, and the outcomes follow.
Chapters
Hi, this is Brian with another mini chapter from a Philosopher's Notes. This one's called bling versus being goals. Goals that are super important. But from my perspective, people spend way too much time setting bling goals when they should be focusing that energy on being goals. Two important reasons why the near exclusive focus on having and stuff goals is a bad idea. Number one, as we've discussed, acquiring stuff doesn't lead to happiness. Changing your thoughts and behaviors does. Number two, outcomes are simply byproducts of consistently rocking it. So it makes a heck of a lot more sense to set creative production goals and bliss upline goals than it does to obsess about outcomes. So, bling versus being goals. Let's shift from the obsessive focus on bling and all the stuff we can acquire and all the stuff we can put up on our vision board to being goals. Who are we going to become? How are we going to become a more extraordinary human being? Goals like meditating every day for the rest of your life if that fires you up. Exercising every day this year, even if it's just a mellow walk for 30 minutes on your rest days. Those are two of my goals, by the way. Being goals. That's where it's at. Let's go focus our energy there and let the bling take care of itself. All right. Hope you dug it. Look forward to sharing more with you soon. Have an awesome day.
