Brian Johnson explains a simple daily protocol: identify and commit to three core daily targets (tiny/atomic habits) and complete them each day. He argues that consistently hitting these top three targets prevents extended periods of demotivation or "soullessness," and emphasizes building simple scaffolding to show up on low-motivation days.

What are the basic core things you do when you're on? It's really hard to have a bad day when I start my day committing to that and then I simply hit those targets. If you did nothing else but identify and then hit those top three targets, we will not experience two weeks of soullessness. I don't think it's possible. And again, if it is perfect, work the protocol anyway. Have the wisdom to know that you're gonna feel off. It's supposed to be challenging. You're not always going to feel on, and it's not because something's wrong with you, it's because you are. But when we can do what you just described on our soulless moments and show up the next day with a simplified protocol. Tiny habits, atomic habits. Find ways to win on your least motivated days. Then we're much less likely to be going up and down and, oh, where did I go? I can't even see how down I went. You're building scaffolding. We each will continue to be different human beings with each cycle we go through.
