Deepak & Dharma

Brian Johnson explores Deepak Chopra's Law of Dharma: the idea that everyone has a unique purpose found through meditation, recognizing your gifts, and serving others. Johnson shares how asking himself what he'd do with unlimited time and money led him to change careers, and encourages listeners to find their own 'job with a capital J.'
Chapters
Hi, this is Brian with another mini chapter from A Philosopher's Notes. This one's called Deepak and Dharma. Deepak's the seven Spiritual Laws of Success wins my award for most densely packed with wisdom book. Out there reading the chapter on his seventh spiritual law, the Law of Dharma literally changed my life a few years ago. Here's the basic idea. We all have a unique Dharma or purpose or destiny. It's our job in this little lifetime of ours to one, connect to that higher force that beats our hearts and keeps the planets in line. Best way to do that? Meditation as we two, figure out what our unique gifts are, and then three, figure out how we're going to give those gifts in greatest service to our families, communities, and world. In the context of figuring out what our unique gifts are and what really inspires us, which are usually tied to one another. Huh. Deepak asks us a question that literally left me stunned. It was this. He said, quote, if you had all the time and all the money in the world, what would you do? Now, I tend to take questions like that seriously. When I pondered it a few years ago, I didn't have a crystal clear answer, but I knew it wasn't what I was doing. As a result, within weeks, I wound up selling the business I was running, which led to the decision to give myself a PhD in optimal living, which led to me typing these words and now reading these words. Now, I'm not suggesting you need to drop everything and turn your life upside down tomorrow, but it's a powerful question. And in my experience, and as so many of the great teachers advise us, as we have the courage and audacity to really step into the possibilities of our lives while working diligently, patiently, persistently, and playfully, amazing things open up for us. And of course, we also get our share of WTF did I do that for moments. So, back to you. If you had all the time and all the money in the world, what would you do? P.S. here's another awesome question. To help you find your job with a capital J, as Jon Kabat Zinn likes to call it, what do you love so much you'd pay to do it? For me, I love learning and sharing and having great conversations with inspired peeps. Feel blessed to have created a way to get paid to do that on a full time basis. How about you? What's your job with a capital J? What's your dharma, your destiny, your purpose for being here? Check into that. Have fun with it. If you had all the time and all the money in the world, what would you do? It's a great question to explore. Hope you enjoyed. Look forward to sharing more with you soon. In the meantime, have an awesome day.
