A short YouTube video (Brian Johnson, Nov 25, 2012) reflecting on Michael Bernard Beckwith’s concept of 'spiritual indigestion' or 'spiritual farts'—the imbalance where one studies spiritual or philosophical ideas heavily but fails to apply them. Johnson emphasizes practice over mere vocabulary or theory and asks viewers to identify truths they know but aren't living yet, urging application to cure 'spiritual farts.'

Hey, guys, what's up? This is Brian with another video this morning. Today's theme is do you have spiritual farts? Yes, spiritual farts. Let's jump in. This is a quick one. Michael Bernard Beckwith, one of my favorite teachers and Alexander's favorite teachers. Been listening to him a lot these mornings and walks with the little man. Amazing guy. Check out his stuff on Sounds True. Michael Beckwith. Now, Beckwith tells us if you're doing a lot of studying, a lot of studying, not a lot of applying, you will have what he calls spiritual indigestion, AKA spiritual farts. Lots of studying, not a lot of applying, spiritual indigestion. Eek. For you and for those around you, kind of like that. Now, we got to remember that theory studying stuff is the rudimentary practice, right? It's rudimentary philosophy or spirituality theory. Now, we get confused oftentimes and we think talking about ideas and reading about ideas and is the advanced stuff, but it's not. The advanced stuff is the practice. Oftentimes it's much less sexy than the theory. Talking about ideas, having a very enhanced spiritual or philosophical vocabulary. But the transcendent comes through the mundane. We need to practice this stuff that is the advanced philosophy and spirituality. Theory versus practice, studying versus applying. Now you want to do both. You want to have both theory and practice. But remember, if you get stuck in studying too much and not applying enough, you will have spiritual indigestion. So I ask you, what truth do you know but are not yet living? What truth do you know but are not yet living? You need to take it out of theory into practice. That's really what all these videos are about. We come back to the same theme again and again and again. Moving from theory to practice, doing what we know is most important for us. So again, what truth do you know but not yet living? Get on that and you will cure any case of spiritual farts that you might have. I hope you dug it. Look forward to sharing more with you soon. Have another great day. See ya.
