A short Areté micro-chapter by Brian Johnson explaining the etymology of 'energy' (Greek energia = en + ergon, literally 'in work') and defining energy as 'the capacity for work' (he suggests expanding this to 'capacity for work and love'). He briefly teases examining biological 'energy powerhouses' and then presents detailed promotional pre-order tiers, shipping/launch timing (book ships November 14), and ordering options (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, independent bookstores, Heroic site).
Chapters
Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to another arete one degree. One of 451 micro chapters from my new book, Activate your heroic potential. Today we've got another idea from the third objective. Optimize the big three. Energy, Work and love. Energy Etymology of the capacity for work and love. Now, before we move on, it's time for another etymological lesson. Do you happen to know what the word energy literally means? The word energy comes from the ancient Greek word energia, which has two parts, en and ergon. It literally means in work. My 2084 page American Heritage dictionary defines the word as the capacity for work or vigorous activity. Perfect. Okay, only for our purposes. I think we should consider slightly modifying that too. Energy is the capacity for work and love. The next logical question is simple. How do we create heroic levels of energy? To answer that question, let's bust out our favorite microscopes and see if we can find some little energy powerhouses within our bodies. That's the next one degree. I hope you enjoyed that Arete plus one degree from my new book Arete. Activate your heroic potential. The book will be shipped on November 14, right before Black Friday.
