Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to the Optimal Living 101 Masterclass Series. Today I'm thrilled to be chatting about Goals 101. How to set and achieve meaningful goals that can help you be happy and flourish while doing heroic things. We want to be happy. We want to. We want to flourish and actualize our potential. And we want to do heroic things. We want to serve as profoundly as we can. That's what this class is all about. As always, we have 10 big ideas. Let's take a quick look and then we'll jump in. Alright, Our first Big Idea targets. We need to have them and we need to pick good ones. We could have called this class targets 101. The ancient Greeks told us we are teleological beings. We need to have three targets that we're aiming toward. Modern science agrees. We're going to talk about why they're so important. We're also going to talk about the fact that it's not about attaining the goals per se. It's about the process of pursuing the goals. It is in fact about the journey. But you need to have goals, otherwise you're just going to be wandering up that mountain. Second Big Idea is our number one target. The thing we're aiming at is you at your best. I would say at your heroic best. We're going to talk about eliminating your false limits, expanding the idea of what you are capable of doing, increasing your self concept and creating goals that truly challenge you to be your best over the long run. The big picture and also in this moment, our third Big Idea, the Big three. I'm going to suggest that we think about three primary areas of our life that we want to optimize and and set goals for. Stephen Covey talks about roles and goals. Tony Robbins talks about categories of improvement. We're going to talk about our Big three Big Idea number four, the motivation equation. We're going to unpack what science says is the key to us sustaining motivation over the long run, which is obviously essential for us to achieve our goals and identify what you really, really want. We got to have confidence that we can hit it. And we need to remove all the distractions in our impulsivity. And we need to make micro goals a part of our process. M equals V times E over I times D is the equation we're going to look at. The fifth Big Idea, five years plus mastery plus the one we're going to fast forward and look forward and see your life in five years. Magic wand. What does it look like we're going to challenge you to choose mastery, you're going to need to make some trade offs. You can't do everything. What are you going to truly excel at? And then what's the one thing, the goal that if you achieved it would have the most positive impact in your life and help you achieve all the other goals? The one we want to identify that number. 6. We're going to decide to decide. We're going to know our price and we're going to pay it daily. And then we're going to remove choice and finish. Decide to decide. Know your price, pay it and remove the choice. Categorically remove the option of quitting. You've decided this is important to you. You've weighed the cost. You're willing to pay those costs. Pay the price and you're going to finish. Take one baby step after the next. Seventh big idea five minutes plus number one plus 24 seven. Science says the most robust way to boost our optimism is to spend some time every day reflecting on our goals. Write it down. Five minutes. We're going to talk about that some more. Identify your number one thing. Goal setting to now. What are you going to do today that moves you toward toward your big goal and then live that goal 24 7. 8th Big Idea the serenity key plus tranquility tax. We talked about the serenity key quite a bit in Conquering Anxiety 101. We're going to touch on it here. Then we're going to talk about the tranquility tax. You want to feel peace of mind. Well, what's getting in the way of that? You need to pay your tranquility tax. That'll be a fun one that the ninth big idea love 2.0 times three otls. We're going to look at the new science of love. Upgrading from love 1.0 to love 2.0. Powerful stuff. This is actually the most transformative thing I've studied in a long time. We're going to set a goal to create more of what researchers call positivity resonance in your life. AKA connection, AKA love. Most powerful goal you're going to set in this class. And the 10th big idea is the ideal you. Now, as Dan Millman says, there are no ordinary moments. You're not waiting to do the extraordinary. Every moment is an opportunity for you to show up, be your best in the eternal present. That's a quick look. Let's jump in.
