17 Dec 2025 · 5 min
This podcast transcript records Cynthia Occelli explaining intuition as a learnable skill that culture often suppresses. She contrasts meditative, body-centered awareness with analytic thinking, advises grounding attention in the lower abdomen (two inches below and behind the navel) to access creativity and knowing, and recommends low-stakes experiments (write down intuitive impressions and check later) to build trust and accuracy.

You feel like something. You feel pregnant, right? And we are pregnant with all kinds of things all of the time, right? It's not just. It's not about babies. It's ideas, it's. It's creations, it's futures, it's changes, it's inventions, it's businesses, it's whatever. And you know where you are isn't working, but you feel like there's something else coming up that is the time to really get connected to your intuition. And your intuition, to me, is a skill. Like, we have our senses, our five senses, and we know how to work them, right? And we've learned how to walk, and we've really perfected all of the skills that we have. Our culture suppresses intuition and it calls it, you know, scary and inaccurate and something that, you know, you shouldn't really give too much attention to. We can develop that skill now. And when we have that intuitive. When our intuition is open and flowing, you will have a greater sense of where to go, what to do. When you. In those meditative moments and you're quiet and I just want to make a couple distinctions here. Meditation is not thinking with your eyes closed. It's actually getting down into your energy, down into your body. I happen to be someone who is extremely logical and extremely analytical, and I was great. Thankfully, I was taught to meditate when I was three or four years old, before I could be all of those things. So I sort of have a shortcut to know when I'm meditating or not meditating. But when I went away from it and into the world of. I know how to succeed in this world, it's by being a better man. So I'm going to go out there and do what they do better, which is actually impossible. But I was trying that one out for a while. You meditate by closing your eyes and analyzing, analyzing, analyzing, analyzing. And you will think yourself into paralysis. Nothing will come from it because you can't really think your way into intuitive knowing. That's a feeling, that's a sense, that's a truth inside of yourself. So if you are scattered, challenged, doubtful, frustrated, getting beneath that, down into the lower centers. And I know we're not talking chakras here, and a person doesn't even have to believe in chakras. They can just look at aspects of personality and find the equivalent down in your body. Actually taking your focus out of your head and placing it down in your body, ideally two inches below and behind your navel. That's, you know, the seat of the goddess right there. Second chakra, you know, we don't have time for that. But that's where creativity is. That's where flow is. That's where knowing is. That's where emotion is. That's where sadness and things that haven't been addressed are. And right beneath that is your base and root chakra to root you to the earth and ground you. If you have your energy, your focus in those places while you allow yourself to breathe and settle and just do that for the sake of doing it. Then at the end of that, when you really know. All right, my heart rate is down. My respiration is clear and easy. I'm not caught up in analysis. I'm at peace. I'm whole. I'm grounded. I'm present. I'm fortified. What's my next step? And it's quiet. And then you don't freak out for the answer. You stay in that space of receptivity and you trust that the answer is there, is coming, will be revealed, and you feel for it, and you'll know it. It's not intuition. When you read intuition, it's not got it. It's not a hot impulse. It's a soft, easy understanding. And this is really challenging for someone who has no idea about it. And it's really hard to learn how to trust it. One of the ways you can do that is do it where the consequences and the costs are really low. Start to ask yourself the questions. When you think you get an answer, write it down. Go on with your life. Go back and check your answer. You will start to see where you're on and what it felt like, where you were off and what that felt like. And your accuracy will grow and your ability to intuit will grow. I live, I would, the majority of my life from that now. And it's not for a lack of having a highly evolved mind. It's because I've been through enough situations where I denied my intuition and suffered greatly for it. So to me, it's the way.
