How to deal with any problem

Brian Johnson presents a brief motivational talk advising that when problems feel large it indicates one is ‘being a small person.’ He uses a size metaphor (person-size versus problem-size) with everyday examples (stubbed toe, being cut off) and cites T. Harv Eker and Vernon Howard to argue that the solution is to grow one’s character and consciousness, respond from a larger perspective, and consistently do the right thing.

Hey guys, what's up? This is Brian with another optimal living 101 video. Today we're going to talk about how to deal with any problem. How to deal with any problem. We've got a little T Harv Eker quote here from Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. To kick this off, he says if you have a big problem in your life, all that means is that you're being a small person. Now he's got this little fun thing where he talks about sizes, you versus your problems. Now if you're being a small person, little problems can appear very, very big. So let's just say, for example, we get a one to ten scale here, right? Let's say that you stubbed your toe this morning or someone cut you off on, on the freeway on the way to work. Now let's be honest, those are at best size one problems. Perhaps 0.2, 0.8. They're less than one. And if you're being upset and you have a big problem in your life and it's that you're being a very, very, very small person. So there's kind of like a fleece size version of you, a point, I don't know, zero, one version of you that's responding to this less than one size problem as if it's a big deal. And we got to be aware of that. If we're seeing this as a big deal in our lives, we're being very, very, very microscopically small individuals. On the other hand, if we grow and we become a size 9 person, our character is very, very strong. We're plugged in, we're shining, we stub our toe and we're able to see that's a very small problem in the big picture of life. We appreciate the fact that in our current moment, the biggest problem we have in our lives is a stub toe or someone cutting us off on the freeway. We take a deep breath, hopefully we channel some appreciation into our lives and send some love to that person on the freeway and we're all good. Not a big deal. No road ragey. That comes from being a fleece sized person. Now this is a really, really, really powerful model that I use all the time. Anytime I find myself upset and I'm kind of looking, is it a size 3 problem or a size 4 problem? I gotta remember, and we've gotta remember that even these problems, we've gotta be responding from this perspective. There's a little happy guy or not so happy guy for those problems to be big problems. When we become bigger people and we truly plug in and we do all these things that we talk about in these videos. It's just not a big deal. So again, if you have a big problem in your life, all that means that you're being a small person. The solution is grow. Feed your character by doing consistently what you know to be the right thing. Here's how Vernon Howard puts it. He says, people ask, but how do I get out of this mess? Mysticism replies, if you were on a higher level of consciousness, you would not be in it in the first place. You had a bigger size consciousness. If you were a bigger person, these problems that look so big would not be a big deal. So there you go. That's how you deal with any problem. Become a bigger person. And remember, next time you find yourself flustered by a tiny problem or a moderate sized problem, it's just a challenge. It's just a call for you to plug in. It's and become that highest version of yourself that we talk about all the time. So there you go. Remember, size is you versus your problems. Get out there and deal with any problem you might have. Hope you enjoyed and look forward to sharing more with you soon. See ya.
