Brian Johnson discusses balancing intense, urgent creativity with the need to slow down. Using the V12 engine metaphor, he describes overactive minds that come with high creative drive and outlines personal strategies: training harder, sleeping deeper, matching 'amp amplitudes' of his waves, celebrating flow, and using an in-the-moment breathing cue to flip into calm confidence.

We're fully aligned. And again, that's part of the inherent creative process. So when you turn up the heat you're going to create and you get the friction going and you're building a bigger and bigger fire, you're going to have more smoke. You're going to need to learn how to handle that. It's the V12 engine that you're deliberately installing into your race car so you can go faster. This level of urgent, intense creativity goes with an overactive mind. It goes with the tendency to go too fast too long without going down. The way I solve for that is I train harder and I sleep deeper, and I'm making sure the amp amplitudes of my waves are matched. But I'm also celebrating the fact that, jeez, I'm in it right now, I'm flowing. And anytime that I find myself going too fast and even right now as I talk and I'm going faster, can I, in that moment, slow down, take a breath? I literally say to myself, breathe. I flip the switch and calm confidence.
