Let’s Go SHO! (#007)

Brian Johnson (speaker) delivers a New Year's Day monologue about treating every day as 'day one.' He cites Steven Pressfield (Put Your Butt Where Your Heart Wants to Be and other works) to frame the mindset of treating each day as the only day, and he outlines daily commitments/virtues (disciplined, calm, confident, heroic). He references the Heroic app and Aura scores (sleep quality, targets) and reports study-style outcomes (e.g., hitting three targets linked to ~40% boost in energy, ~20% boost in connectivity, ~15% improvement in connection). He closes by summarizing the 'science of hope'—goal, agency, and pathways—and invites listeners to a New Year's Day event.

Good morning, hero Inside Quiet voice. Day one on most people's calendars. It's day one on my calendar every day of the year, folks. But happy New Year. We have a little technical glitch this morning, so Aura has already reported its scores. We'll come back to that in a moment. First, let's load up the old heroic app. Actually going to go straight to a little Pressfield, Steven Pressfield wisdom. So I'm going to do a plus one on this soon. But in his most recent book, Put yout Butt where your Heart Wants to Be, Steven Pressfield. Actually, let's go back real quick. I love Pressfield. We've got a ton of philosopher's notes on his work. Do the work, the War of Art. We reference it in improv. Wisdom Turning pro. Nobody wants to read your stuff. The Artist's Journey. Tons of great books by Pressfield. All right, so we're going to go back into put your butt where your heart wants to be. Here's how I think about every day. Pressfield says, plus one coming soon. Here's my frame of mind as I sit down to work. This is the day. There is no other day. This is the day. In other words, I release every thought that smacks of. Maybe we can do this some other time. There is no other time. Today is the Super Bowl. Today is the day he says, I give birth. Today is the day I die. Today's the day, folks. Every day. Especially on New Year's Day. Alright, let's complete our commitments. I'm a disciplined athlete. Heroic philosopher, CEO. Joyful, soulmate. I'm disciplined, calm, confident. What are your virtues? How do you show up when you're at your best? In your energy? Think about that, Reflect on it. What do you do on a consistent basis when you are at your best? Again, life doesn't need to be hard. You got to figure out who you are when you're at your best and do those things every single day. Especially when you don't feel like it. That's how you forge antifragile confidence. We're going to work out math style today. And that is how you fundamentally and permanently change your life. All right, all right, all right, all right, all right. I'm committed on that side of things. Heroic philosopher, CEO and fiercely ambitious. Unapologetically intense. Iconoclastic, relentless. Anti fragile. Calm, confident, Indomitable. Will. Let's go hero again. Who are you when you're at your best? Work wise? We want to get heroically productive. Be that best version of you today. What are you going to do? I'm going to recommit. I'm going to do the most important thing. I'm going to shut down today's New Year's Day, but I am showing up for the let's Go show. We've got a 101pm New Year's Day party today. Excited about that. That preparing for that will be my win this morning. Pay prize for greatness. All right, let's go. I'll send a voice memo. High five. It's going to be pretty mellow today. Teamwork will make the dream work. There you go. There's my work. Committed all in. Let's go. I literally can't wait to go back and hit those targets. 101 targets a day is what I'm hitting on the Heroic app these days. I'm crazy. Don't need to be quite that crazy to see huge gains. As we've discussed, you hit three targets and if you're like the people that went through our study, you can see a 40% boost in energy, 20% boost in connectivity. Love you guys. And a 15% improvement in your connection. Again. When I'm looking for opportunities to create micro moments of connection with my family, with people with whom I'm interacting, responding to bids from my family, these little things matter. They aggregate. They compound. You extend them over a period of time and you again fundamentally and permanently change your life. Let's go. That day is locked in. That's like me. Thank you, hero. Heroic New day's resolutions. We've got this great Joseph Campbell wisdom. A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. No question about that. New day's resolutions. This is the whole point of the app. It's day one. It'll be day one again tomorrow. Check out the plus one for more. Today is the day always to make resolutions. We'll keep today shorter. 88. 94. I'll take that. Especially seeing the fact that I actually went to bed at 7:15, folks. I was partying like a rock star. Maybe 7:20 or on occasion misses some time. Thinks I went to bed an hour later than I did. Still gave me a 94. I will take that. All right, cool. Look at that. 31. 61% quality sleep again. All right, cool. Thank you. Deep sleep, etc. All right, cool. I'm happy with that. That's all I got today, hero. Let's make today awesome. Let me commit to. Yep. I want to continue to inspiring people to see a better future. Remember the science of hope. You can see a better future. If you can't see a better future, you're literally hopeless. Got to be able to see that better future. You got to have agency, a belief that you can make that better future a reality. We'll jump into the science of hope again. Where is it? Where is it? Where is it? There it is. The three things. You got to have a goal, you got to have a sense of agency, and you got to have pathways. You got to have that inspiring target that I'm going to talk about in our New Year's Day celebration today. Join us if you're going to be there. Can't wait to see you. What's your ideal look like for 2023? Think about that. See it. Feel it in your energy, your work and your love. Know that you can create it. If you're willing to do the hard work and then create a plan, what are you going to do day in and day out in order to have a shot at hitting that inspiring target? That is the science of hope. That is what I'm going to commit to right now for myself, my family, for you, for our community again. Day one. Let's go.
