You're listening to Optimize with Bryan Johnson. More wisdom in less time. Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to the Optimize Mastery series. Today we've got module four, Carpe Diem part five on work. But not just any work. We're going to talk about genius work today. In our last session we. We looked at energy in the context of carpe diem. In our next session, we're going to look at love in the context of seizing the day. But as always, before we jump in, where have we been so far? Last week I challenged you in our last session to think about the three facets of learning. What do we have? Practice your recall in spaced repetitions and remember to teach. And most importantly, actually practice the ideas that have been firing you up. So if you were going to give a quick little kind of synopsis of the optimized protocol thus far, how would you describe it? Put it in your own words. If you feel so inspired. Pause, reflect for a moment. What's most jumped out at you? What's changed your life thus far? How can you describe that to yourself and to others? Here's how I describe it. It starts with Module 1, Eudaimonology, the study of a good. Today we're going to have fun because that's Greek. Daimon is Greek for soul. You know what they called the soul in Rome? In Latin they called it genius. So we're going to bring our genius to work with us today in this session. But we had eudaimonology, the study of a good soul. How do you have a good soul? A good relationship with your soul and flourish? You high five it by living with arete or virtue. Ancient wisdom. Modern science agrees. We took that wisdom from optimize equals optimist equals best equals eudaimon equals hero, which was module 2, 3 parts antifragile confidence. The more we get kicked around, the stronger we get. Heroic courage. We have strength for two. We have the willingness to act in the presence of fear. And we are response able. Stimulus. Boom. Optimus. What's the best response? New response. Then we brought that into our big three times two Energy, work, love, identity, virtues, behaviors. When do we want to put all that into practice? Today, Carpe diem, big picture. We want to get really good at getting the fact that today's the day and then really good at creating masterpiece days that start with the PM book and go to the AM pre. Input wins. And now we're going through the energy, the work and the love. Then what are we going to do? Then we're going to look at algorithms. Then we're going to look at fundies. Then we're going to look at you, optimus, you, virtue embodied. So prelude complete. What are we going to do today? 10 big ideas plus an 11th bonus one for the coaches. One more time. First big idea. Today's the day. Have I mentioned it yet? I'm going to talk about some other metaphors. We talked about exponential limitless steps last time, right? That you can go around the earth two dozen times when you have high leverage, exponential growth. We're going to use some other metaphors to bring the point home today. Then we're going to go back to identity management. We did that with energy, we're going to do it with work. Who are you at your work best? I'm going to strongly encourage you to turn pro. Become a professional. Whether that's as a CEO or a mom or a coach or a philosopher or a creative director or an HR director. Turn pro, be a professional. We're going to talk about Steven Pressfield and his amazing wisdom there. Then the third big idea is kind of the whole focus today. Genius work versus mediocre work. Again, we're going to pull out the etymology of daimon and genius and have some fun figuring out how we avoid mediocre work. We have an equation that we're going to dust off and add a variable to that equation is genius work equals time times energy times focus times what's important now within parentheses. And the new variable is to the power of consistency. That's actually the secret sauce. Then we're going to walk through each of those variables. Energy management. Right. Focus management, what's important now, management. And then consistency management will be our fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh big ideas. I cannot wait to share some wisdom there. Then 8. We're going to revisit our bookends one more time. We're going to look at our energy protocol one more time. We're going to continue to constantly and never endingly optimize and experiment with what's working, what needs work and what we're going to do differently. Then we're going to take another inventory. In our last session, we took an inventory of kryptonites and then superchargers. Energy wise, we're going to do the same thing. Work wise. What kryptonites do you have, what's not working and what really works. We want to remember rule number one of optimizing. The fastest way to optimize and get better and actualize your potential is to stop doing the things that don't work. So we're going to create a stop doing list that we'll take with us to work tomorrow. Then the 10th big idea is we're going to get to work. We're going to create a pre input AM one bookend win on that genius work. We're going to combine the energy, the focus, the what's important now and that consistency and create some wins first thing in the morning. I cannot wait to get to that and to see you get to that consistently. 11th idea. Coaches turn pro. You want to be a professional coach at act like a professional coach and remember you are client number zero. We need you to be a radiant exemplar. You and your consciousness and your embodiment of these ideas is by far your greatest asset. As Ralph Waldo Emerson says, what you do speaks so loudly I cannot hear what you say. Who you are speaks so loudly. No one's going to hear what you say before they hear and feel who you are. Which is why we emphasize being a radiant exemplar. There we go. Let's jump in. All right. Our first big idea. Guess what? Today's the day. Have I mentioned that today's the day to move from theory to practice to mastery? If we're serious about going for mastery rather than going through the motions, we need to get out of the abstract into the concrete. There is no better time to do it than obviously right this moment. And what we want to do is create the structures and see the rhythms in our lives day in and day out, such that we can algorithmically, easily express the best version of ourselves. So again, the thesis of this whole six session module is that we want you to see that really, really get it number one and number two, get really, really good at creating masterpiece days. It's the secret sauce to creating a great life. Create a series of great days. In our last session, we used the metaphor of the exponential steps to talk about the power of aggregating and compounding all of this wisdom. So this is why we're coming back to it again and again, why we're spacing our time out so you can build gain after gain after gain after gain. Realize or remember that 30 steps forward is awesome. You'll get down the street 30 exponential steps forward and it is even more awesome. You can go around the earth two dozen times. That's crazy. Ton of other metaphors. We can use the penny doubling we talked about. I'll give you a million dollars or I'll give you a penny and I'll double it every Day for a month. Which one do you want? Well, I hope you ask what month it is, because you'd actually rather have the million bucks in February, right? But you get those extra few days of compounding and exponential growth, and then you absolutely want to take that penny doubling. So you want to be patient, continue to double, double, double, and know that the gains are simultaneously often going to come immediately. And yet the best gains come at the end of that cycle. We just need to keep at it again and again and again. I can throw a ton more metaphors at you. The stone cutter hits the rock. Hits the rock. Does it break on the first or second or third or fifth strike? No, this. They keep on hitting it and hitting it and hitting it. Which strike broke the rock? Good question. There's another metaphor. Pennies and then coins. Ancient metaphor of. What is it called? The sority paradox. They say, look, a certain number of coins makes someone wealthy. Before that point, they weren't wealthy. After that point, they were right, what's the number? But then which coin is the one that actually made them wealthy? They weren't wealthy at the first or the second or the third or the fourth or the tenth or even the hundredth or the thousandth, but they needed every single one of those little coins to get to the point of aggregating and compounding those. Those would just be aggregated coins to actually have wealth. I'll share some more metaphors in our next session and throughout our time together. But you get the idea. We want to continue to show up. Plus one, plus one, plus one, aggregating and compounding and seeing those potential exponential gains that are extraordinary and life changing, provided we continue to do the work. When? Today. All right, I'm gonna do a little PS Here. Cause there's another metaphor that is just so good that it's worth mentioning in this context. There's all those exponential gains, right, that you kind of continue to hit, and you see the aggregation and the compounding, et cetera. But you know what? Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins mentor, says that there are also times in your life that where it's like you're working on a combination lock, you know, and you got like six or seven different numbers you got to get right, right? You get the first four, five, six, right, but you haven't gotten that last number right. Nothing happens. But then you get that last number, and boom, you open the combination lock. Any one of these ideas, and I'm trying to emphasize the ones that I think are universally huge, you need to identify the ones that you think are the highest leverage for you. Put them into place. Boom. You might open a combination lock that leads to some magic. Hey, this is Brian again. I hope you enjoyed that overview of a Mastery Series session and got some wisdom out of it.
