You're listening to Optimize with Bryan Johnson. More wisdom in less time. Hello and welcome back to the Optimize Mastery series. This is Michael here taking us through module four. Carpe Diem Part seven. Carpe We. We're going to take those things that we learned through the process of Carpe diem. Today's the day. Pm, am Energy, work, love. And apply those to a week. Week has seven days. Seven parts of the carpe diem. Module four fired up to take us through the 10 big ideas. But first, a recap of where we've been so far. Starting with module one, Eudaimonology. Right, the study of a good soul. This is the game that we are playing to close the gap between. Between who we're capable of being and who we're actually being. Moment to moment to moment to live with virtue. Put virtues into action. Module 2 Hero Ology. The study of a good hero. Heroes have strength for two. Doesn't stop with being the best versions of ourself. But how can we be the best versions of ourself in service of something greater? Check out some heroic tools. Developing antifragile confidence, heroic courage. Lots of fun stuff in module two. Module three was the big three times two. Energy, work, love as our big three Identity, virtues and behaviors. Who are you at your optimist best in energy, in work and in love? What's that optimist best Identity. What are the virtues that that identity embodies on a day to day basis? And what are you gonna do today to live more in alignment with that best version of yourself in the big 3 times 2? Module 4 carpe diem. Seize the day. Today's the day. We looked at the big picture in part one. We looked at the PM bookend, remembering that today actually started the night before. Right? Optimizing that PM bookend. Then we moved to part three, the AM bookend. How to get early wins to win the day by winning the morning. Then we looked at energy. Then we looked at work. And then we looked at love. Bringing us to today's Carpe weekum. Applying that all to a week. Next module, module five will be algorithms. We're going to look at the big picture. We're going to look at installing algorithms and deleting algorithms. And then power algorithms. I'm optimizing power algorithms. Then module six, the fundamentals. Big picture again. Part one. Then eating, moving, sleeping, breathing, being present, being grateful and prospering. Which will bring US to Module 7, Optimus, you, Virtue embodied. That's where we're at with the Mastery series, let's dive into module four, part seven, Carpe Wicum. All right, so we've got 10 big ideas for module four, part seven. Starting with we started this one almost every single carpe diem session. Today's the day. We're going to revisit this moment, this day, this week, right? Remember that Today is the day we're gonna revisit the daimon reporter that we talked about earlier on and become pros at catching turnarounds. Get really, really good at catching turnarounds. Theme of this session, by the way, professional optimize. We're gonna talk about turning pro over and over and over again. Big idea two, Extend the connections. We made some connections earlier on we made between our PM and our AM, our AM and the rest of our day, the PM and the AM and how those really are the 8020 place to focus. We're gonna take those connections from a day, extend them over the course of a week with consistency and also look at a weekly bookend connecting one week to the next week to the next week. Big idea two, Extend the connections. Big idea three, Turn pro. We've talked about this a ton in the different identity management ideas. Truly turning pro. Gonna suggest to turn pro and be a professional optimizer, right? In energy, in work and in love. We're gonna look at the process, making progress, creating anti fragile confidence, being consistent and being committed. Committing to winning your game, not anyone else's. Your game. Turning pro. That's big idea number three. Big idea number four. Master the cycles. We're going to look at growth cycles, right? Spiraling up, aiming, failing, learning, growing, getting better. We're going to look at death cycles, seeing how many times we can go through this process of dying to be reborn, right? Evolving over and over and over again. Spiraling up, not going in circles, but learning how to spiral up when today, particularly moments, days, weeks, broader context, that's big idea four. Master the cycles. Big idea five. We're going to take a weekly view. Why weeks? I don't know. We'll get into that. Kind of doesn't really matter. And it's a Goldilocks kind of amount of time to look at again, revisiting that diamond reporter collecting data on our weeks. Big idea six, Prepare to win. Win. W I n what's important now. We're going to prepare to win by looking at what's important now, by aiming the arrow of our weeks, by putting our big three rocks in place, by looking at some weekly habits. And then again, what's Important now. Big Idea seven, Build your team. Nobody competes alone. If you truly want to turn pro, if you want to be professional optimizers, we've got an organize a soul squad. Who can help us? Who can we help truly building a team? That brings us to Big Idea 8. Compete with yourself. You're the only person that matters. You are going to compete with with yourself as a professional optimizer. We're gonna create your scorecard, right? Focusing on the process, looking at the course map. A ton of different golf stories, metaphors, analogies here, including the scorecard. You're gonna create your scorecard so you can compete with yourself and how to score on that scorecard. Big Idea 9, lock in the lessons. This is gonna be our weekly review program process. Our prepare to win. Big Idea 6 was our weekly preview process. Big Idea 9 lock in lessons is going to be our weekly review process. Taking our prior best, making it our new baseline, mining that previous week for diamonds that we can apply right now going forward. And big idea 10. Wave the wand and get to work. Wave the wand. What does your ideal week look like? And then get to work creating it. Progress, progress, progress. Bit by bit by bit by bit, Week by week by week. Day by day by day. Moment by moment by moment by moment. At a time. That's a quick look at the 10 big ideas. Let's jump in our first big idea. Today's the day. We're gonna look at this moment. Day or week. That daimon reporter and collecting turnarounds. Getting really, really great at collecting turnarounds. When we fall short. Not if, but when. How quickly can we catch that? Turn it back around. Starting with today's the day when. Today. Right now. This moment, this day, this week. Now is the time to go from theory to practice to mastery, right? There's no other time. There's no better time than right now. Take those things that you know to be true. Take that fierce commitment to being the best version of yourself and. And do it right now. Which brings us to the daimon reporter. We talked about this. The idea that there is a reporter following you along throughout the day, tracking your each and every move, your thoughts, your actions. And then taking whatever they capture in their notes and literally writing a story that represents your life. Like your obituary, the story of your life captured by the actions that you take today. Sounds kind of crazy. There is a reporter following you around. It's your daimon, that best version of yourself. That inner genius, right? That soul, that highest version is watching. What are you doing? Are you in Alignment with that best version of yourself or not. It's there, it's watching. And I don't know about you, but I feel kind of like, ugh, really every single day. Like, that doesn't seem fair. What if something happens I can't control in the day and that's really gonna be the day that is like, representative of me forever. Okay, okay, okay, I get it. Let's extend that day to a full week, right? If you can't get a day, if the day gets away from you, if something happens and you feel like I don't want that to represent me. How about seven? What about an average of what you do over the course of seven days? Have that daimon reporter watching you over the course of the week and allow that to be representative of who you are and how you show up to throughout your entire life. We're gonna take those daily rhythms, take those daily lessons and apply them over the course of the week with that daimon reporter following us around, capturing that data such that we can spiral up to the next best version of ourself. Which brings us to collecting turnarounds. Really, really important idea. We'll come back to this over and over and over again. Let's say you get up in the morning. I'm gonna make this day a great day or awesome. Something happens very quickly to make it start to spiral down and not be a great day. Don't wait until the end of the day to say, oh, it really got away from me. Get really good at stopping it as soon as it starts to go down, catching it, bringing it back up, collecting that turnaround. We're going to have mistakes, we're going to fall short. Let's get really good at catching those as soon as we possibly can and bringing it back up. Had a bad morning. Awesome. Reset at midday and have a fantastic afternoon. Whole day kind of was meh. Something happened again. Awesome. Crush your PM bookend, shut down, Complete digital sunset. Get great energy such you can have a great next day. Have one full bad day or maybe a day that bleeds into the next day, the next. Awesome. Catch that. Turn it around so that you have a great week. Don't waste a bad day. Don't waste the data of a bad day and allow that to make the whole week be a bad week. Remember that psychological math between minus 1 and plus 1, it's not just a gain of 1, it's a gain of 2 in addition to the gains that we get, knowing that we have what it takes to catch ourselves when we're going the wrong direction. Turn it back around towards that best version of ourself. It's actually better in many ways. When things don't go so well, we know we have what it takes to catch it to to turn it around. To turn that minus 1 into a plus 1 and achieve the plus 3, 4, 5, 6. As many as it takes. As many we feel like. Yes, I have what it takes to collect that turnaround. Morning's going south. Awesome. Turn around the afternoon. Afternoon's going south too. Awesome. Turn around the evening. Prepare to make the next day be a fantastic day. Pop quiz. How many days does it take to have a great week? What do you think? If you had one absolutely stellar day, could that create a great week for you? Does it take two or three? I don't know. It's going to be different for you. But we've got to know that one bad day is not going to create a bad week unless we've let it. Unless we fail to catch that turnaround. Collect that turnaround. Have a great next day. When? Today. Today is the day. That's our first big, big idea.
