Mastery Series Module V: Algorithms - Part 2: Install
17 Dec 2025 · 7 min
Podcast episode by Brian Johnson (Optimize Mastery series) focused on installing a single keystone habit via algorithmic habit design. The episode outlines a 10‑idea framework (start with who; identify the habit; clarify why; map how via ABC and habit loops; commit fully; practice daily; pick one target) aimed at turning willpower into automated behaviors to become a “world-class AI programmer” (Ancient intelligence).

You're listening to Optimize with Bryan Johnson. More wisdom in less time. Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to the Optimize Mastery series. Today we've got module five algorithms, part two. We're going to install your number one keystone habit, that habit that can literally change your life. And we're going to help you master the process of installing those habits. We're going to help you become a world class AI programmer. Not artificial intelligence, Ancient intelligence. You, the world class AI programmer and that number one most life changing habit install. That's our goal for today. In our next session, number three of module five, we're going to delete your number one Kryptonite. We're going to get really good at how to install for ourselves and our families and our clients and colleagues. And how to delete, as you Recall, Self Mastery 101 essentially is let's use our willpower wisely to install habits that run on autopilot via algorithms. Again, the outcome of that is that you become a world class AI programmer. As always, we've got 10 big ideas. Let's start at the top, quick overview, then we'll jump in. We're going to start with who. Big idea number one. Start with who. What's your identity? Big three, energy, work and love. What kind of person are you and what do you do? Which is our second big idea. I'm the kind of person who fill in the blank. What's your number one habit that you don't have installed yet that you want to install? In the big picture session, we had our hundred algorithms, we broke that down into the top 10. Then we challenged you to identify what's the number one plus and minus. We're going to help you get clarity on that. Who, what, then why is our third idea. We want to look at that from a meta level, high level. We want to see habits matter. We're going to revisit John Maxwell and realize our future is created by the habits that we install today. Therefore, let's get that motivation right. Then we're also going to look at our motivation, the why, for your specific number one. We want to make the connection between doing that or not doing that and the future of your life. See this? And oh wait, it could go like that, or it could even go like that. If you don't change your behaviors, then we're going to move on to the how. We've got the who, the what, the why, the fourth idea, how we're going to map it, we're going to ABC it and then we're going to loop it another idea, habit loops. And we're going to learn how to write algorithms which have three components. After I do an existing behavior, then I will do my new behavior. Then I'm going to celebrate. We're going to talk about each of those ideas. ABC Anchor Behavior 3 Celebration. We'll look at those with more depth and get some more clarity on it. Then the eighth idea, desir to cut is the root of the word decide. We need to activate ourselves 212 degrees, 451 degrees activation energy points and we need to go 100% all in. There's a big difference between 99% almost all in and 100%. We'll talk about that. We'll talk about me versus McDonald's, one of my old habits that I needed to get rid of. And then the ninth idea is do it daily, right? Don't miss a day. And if you do, don't miss two days. And we'll also talk about repaying any habit debt that you might have. It's a fun way that I play the game that we will have fun with. Then the tenth idea is pick one thing, go all in on it, map it, ABC it, 1, 2, 3 it and then go do your target practice. We're going to talk about machine learning using the data you get when you inevitably fall short to get better and better and better coaches. 11th idea. This is it. If we want to change the world, it's by changing behaviors. We need to become world class AI programmers and get really good at coaching others to to do the same. That's the overview. Let's jump in. All right, our first big idea. We're going to start with who. Who are you at your absolute best? We want to get clear on that before we move into the what, the why and the how. Start with who again. Are we just going through the motions here? Are we going for mastery? Fast forward yourself to the end of your life if you feel so inspired. Remember that quick trip to hell. Well, we want to see that our habits, this module is where it all comes together if we want to be that radiant best version of ourselves at that last moment of our lives. Today's the day to start using our willpower wisely to install habits that run on autopilot. So the identities that we want to pay attention to I would offer are twofold. One, the that identity as a world class AI programmer. Now you're gonna start out as a novice, but how do you get great at anything you put in the effort? That white belt's put on. We're going for mastery. Practice, practice, practice. And we wanna look at this, of course, from our big three. Energy, work, love. Who are you at your absolute best? Again, for me, it's that athlete, the radiant exemplar, energy wise, who? Well, what does that version of me do on a day to day basis? Work wise, striving to be an extraordinary teacher and philosopher. Well, what does that best version of me do? Right, and then love, wise, soulmate. As we discussed many times before, how do I connect with the best within you, within my family, within those with whom I interact today? Energy, work, and love. Who are you? Start with who. And remember, your identity literally means repeated beingness. And what's amazing is your identity drives your behavior, but your behavior drives your identity as well. So as we get more clarity on who we're committed to being and then practice that more and more consistently, we become that which we aspire to be. Which is why we start with who. Hey, this is Brian again. I hope you enjoyed that overview of a Mastery Series session and got some wisdom out of it. You can apply to your life today. What was it again?
