You're listening to Optimize with Bryan Johnson. More wisdom in less time. Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to another micro class. This one's on euthymia. It is inspired by Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday. Euthymia. It's a Greek word. He shares the meaning of it in the context of a story about Seneca Stoic philosopher who tells us that euthymia basically means having a sense of your true path. So what is your truth path? Knowing that and saying a big yes to this allows you to say no to all the stuff. That's a distraction. You can quit comparing yourself to other people because you have the clarity, the courage and the consistency to live your true path. Euthymia. Now what's cool is the word Euthymia has been translated into English as tranquility. When you have clarity, courage and consistency in living your true path, you're running your own race. You're not trying to compete and beat other people. You ignore that process. You have this big yes. You say no to distractions. That feels really, really good. Leads to a feeling sense of tranquility. You're at one with yourself. You're at peace with yourself because you're so focused on who you are and what you're here to do. Remember, as I say in the note that Sonia Lybomirsky, leading positive psychologist, tells us, that a good way to get rid of your tranquility, to be unhappy is to constantly worry about what other people are doing. You're distracted and oh, that person's doing that. That's really cool. Oh, I should be doing that. Comparing yourself to other people and their paths, etc. That's a good way to disrupt tranquility. Happy people, tranquil people aren't thinking about other people. And when they do, they're celebrating them, not comparing them positively or negatively. So why, Ryan asks us, why do you do what you do, why you do? Why do you do what you do? He says, stare at that question until you have an answer. That's a really, really, really important thing for us to know, to have clarity on, so we can be on this path. Purpose 101. We talk about that a lot. If you haven't watched that class yet, I think you'll dig it. And of course, everything we do in these notes microclasses is all about this. Essentially, you discovering your dharma, your true path, what you're here to do, and to do it with the clarity, courage and consistency and confidence and experience more and more of this tranquility as you give yourself most fully to the world and enjoy the process for now.
