You're listening to Optimize with Bryan Johnson. More wisdom in less time. Hi, this is Brian with another micro class. This one is on silencing Mr. M. It's from Take the Stairs. Rory Vaden. Check out the note. Mr. Mr. Mediocrity. We want to get good at silencing this guy. Rory tells us this guy is tiny. He's almost invisible, but he's got a huge mouth. Huge mouth, Little face, little hands, little feet, huge mouth. And he's constantly yelling at us, and he kills momentum. This is the negative voice in our head who's saying things like, you're an idiot. Why did you do that? Fill in the blank with your negative self talk. Rory makes it unequivocally clear, as do all great teachers. If we want to achieve great things, we need to notice when we have Mr. M, Mr. Mediocrity chit, chatting about all the negative stuff, taking over the airwaves with his megaphone and saying all of his negative things. We've got to be aware of that and then stop it and transition into positive self talk. Rory tells us. And again, a lot of other teachers tell us, it might feel stupid at first, but talk to yourself positively. You notice the negative voice and you immediately cancel it. And you say to yourself, I've got this. Yes, let's do this. Whatever it takes for you to fire yourself up. I interviewed D.C. gonzalez, who wrote the Art of Mental Training the other day. He says, when you notice the negative, say cancel, cancel, cancel, cancel. And then insert your positive powerful self talk here. And again, you might feel silly. That's fine. Do it anyway. Give it an experiment. Can't hurt. Remember, Mr. M is tiny, nearly invisible, but he's got a huge mouth and he's committed to killing your momentum. Don't let him. Stop the negative chitchat. Focus on the positive. Figure out what your positive statements are that fire you up. I like, I've got this. Yes, let's do this. Those are things that make me smile every time I say I figure them out. Silence, Mr. M. Let your momentum continue in powerful ways. Hope you enjoyed. Look forward to sharing more soon. See ya.
