A short podcast episode (Heroic Wisdom Daily) by Brian Johnson summarizing Carol Dweck’s concept of growth mindset. It explains that the mindset one adopts shapes behavior; growth mindset emphasizes effort, learning, perseverance over fixed ability, and offers three practical steps: reframe challenges, celebrate effort over outcomes, and learn from mistakes. The host notes the book’s relevance for parenting.

Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to another Heroic Wisdom Daily. Today's wisdom is from Mindset by Carol Dweck, one of my all time favorite teachers. Check out the notes. Professor Dweck teaches us the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life. Now, the growth mindset, which is what she coined and came up with, focuses on effort, learning and perseverance, not fixed abilities. Here's how to embrace a growth mindset today. Number one, reframe challenges. Dweck tells us challenges are opportunities to grow. Approach one obstacle today as a chance to learn rather than avoid it. Number two, celebrate efforts, not outcomes. The effort, she says, is what creates mastery. This is the number one thing I've done with our kids. By the way, this book is is my number one parenting book. Again, check out the notes. You want to reward effort, not skill. That's how you create mastery. So you want to acknowledge the work you put in regardless of the result. Number three, you got to learn from mistakes. Every mistake is a step toward growth. So reflect on one mistake and extract the lesson from it. With that in mind, what's one way you can practice a growth mindset today? Get on that. Check out the notes. Hope you have a great day.
