Brian Johnson introduces Hal Elrod’s Miracle Morning routine and highlights the S.A.V.E.R.S. practices (Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, Scribing) as a way to transform mornings and daily life. Johnson recounts Elrod’s near-death accident and recovery, notes the Miracle Morning book’s wide reach (translated into 37 languages), and emphasizes Elrod’s three-phase habit-formation model: unbearable → uncomfortable → unstoppable.

Hi, this is Brian. Welcome Back to another Arete plus one degree. A micro chapter from Arete. Activate your heroic potential. 451 ideas. This is one of my favorites from one of my favorite human beings on the planet. Miracle Mornings, savers and the 3U's Hal Elrod is an incredibly inspiring human being. At 20 years old, he was hit heavy head on by a drunk driver at 70 miles per hour. Ouch. He was found dead. Yikes. After six minutes of that near death experience, he spent several days in a coma and awoke to discover he had suffered brain damage and was told that he may never walk again. He defied the odds and proved that we're all capable of overcoming obstacles while creating the life of our dreams. Years later, he found himself in a funk and discovered that if he could get his morning routines dialed in, he could activate his heroic potential. Then he wrote a book called the Miracle Morning in which he shares the not so obvious secrets guaranteed to transform your life before 8am the book has been translated into 37 languages and has transformed millions of people's lives. It's fantastic. As you'd expect, Hal tells us that our AM bookend is really important. Great lives are created one great day at a time. And great days are created one great morning at a time. How do we make tomorrow morning a miracle? Well, Hal tells us we want to integrate six key silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading and scribing. Put those all together and you get a miracle morning. You also get the acronym savers S A V E R S. Check out the Philosopher's Notes and Book for more on that. In this plus one degree, I want to focus on one of my all time favorite habit building mental frameworks. We want to have this wisdom in mind as we navigate the process of changing our lives. So how has a great chapter outlining the three phases of habit creation, each around 10 days long. He tells us that the process goes like this. First, the new habit is unbearable. It's a pain. We don't like doing it at all. But we persist. The second phase is uncomfortable. It's not quite as bad as the first phase, but not quite awesome yet. The third phase is when we become unstoppable. We feel the benefits of engaging in the habit of don't need to use so much willpower to get ourselves to do it. And we are now unstoppable. Unbearable, uncomfortable. Unstoppable. That's about right. I say let's have that in mind as we move from theory to practice to mastery and make our entire lives a miracle.
