Hi, this is Brian. Welcome back to the Optimal Living 101 Masterclass Series. Today I'm thrilled to be chatting About Optimal Movement 101, how to optimize your energy, genes, mind, mood and body as a perpetual motion machine. As a perpetual motion machine. This class was going to be called originally Exercise 101. And then all the research shows that exercise, although super important, we're going to talk about it a lot today is not enough. We need to move our bodies as a perpetual motion machine if we want to feel the optimal levels of energy we aspire to feel. As always, we have 10 big ideas. We'll start with a quick look and then dive in. All right, our first big idea is cavemen in space and move your DNA. We're going to talk about what happens when you send cavemen into space and how that's just like being sedentary all day long. Which leads us to the most important part of this class, which is you need to move your DNA. Did you know you have 15 to 70 trillion cells, nearly all of which are tied to your movement? It's true. Second big idea, active and sedentary. Why movement is greater than exercise. So you can be active. You can go bust out a great workout and be sedentary. We're going to talk about why that matters. This is one of the biggest distinctions for me personally. I've always been reasonably active, but I noticed I'm also sedentary. So how do we deal with that? We'll talk about it. Third big idea, the science of motivation. We're going to talk about Michelle Seeger's great research, how to get yourself to take healthy behaviors. We have three facets to this. Choosing the right, why most people choose the wrong why. We're going to talk about what that is. We're going to talk about what the right why is. And then we need to move from thinking of our movement and exercise as a chore to thinking of it as a gift. We'll talk about how to do that. And then of course, we need to have a learning mindset. Put your lab goggles on and experiment with what works. The fourth big idea, Magic pills plus sparks and move your brain. We're going to talk about exercise, the science of exercise. John Ratey and other great researchers tell us it's like a magic pill. We'll talk about why and how exercise is as effective as Zoloft in reducing depression. We need to move our bodies vigorously in a reasonable, consistent manner. The fifth big idea. G habits plus OTMs plus micro movements. And those are all neat. We're going to talk about Joan Vernikos research out out of NASA and what we learned from astronauts and how we need to interact with gravity if we want to be healthy. G habits. And then OTMs will talk about opportunities to move and micro movements. All the great teachers in this domain talk about how important it is to move consistently. We'll talk about how the sixth big idea is to walk. Walking is a defining characteristic of being human. It's a good idea to do it often. We'll talk about why and how to do it best. The seventh big idea is forest baths plus nature equals movement squared or exercise squared. Did you know there's research out of Japan that talks about the positive benefits of being in a forest? They call it forest bathing. Super cool. Being in nature is exercise squared. You get double the benefit. Actually, the benefits squared. It's a good thing. 8th Big idea, consistency over intensity. When I became a personal trainer, which I did 15 years ago after I sold my last business or two businesses ago, first thing I did was become a trainer. I wanted to learn how to optimize my energy so I had enough vitality to actually show up consistently. The number one lesson there was consistency over intensity. We'll talk about that. We're going to talk about the voices in your head as well. Tony Horton, P90X creator, has some great funny wisdom on this idea that we'll talk about. The ninth big idea is really hard versus impossible. We're going to talk about taking a bike ride to Everest. 3 minutes, 59 seconds and 4 tenths of a second as a important number to keep in mind. Then 200 miles, 8 or 9 and 8 versus 2. Some fun stories to bring the point home that some things are really hard and other things are impossible. But we often confuse the two let's not say things are impossible when they're just really, really hard. Challenge ourselves. Stretch ourselves. Which leads us to the 10th big idea. One big game to become a perpetual motion machine. We'll talk about some of the things that I do to make it a gift and a game and have fun optimizing our energy, genes, mind, mood, and body as we become that perpetual motion machine. That's a quick overview. Let's jump in. So if you enjoyed that quick overview, I think you'll love the full class. Become a member and get instant access to this class.
