Super productivity tip: Less than 2 min? 1-touch it!!

If a task takes less than two minutes, do it right now instead of letting it pile up. Brian Johnson applies this one-touch rule to email, bills, dishes, and clothes, citing David Allen's Getting Things Done as the source. It saves willpower and cuts clutter.

Hey guys, what's up? This is Bry. Today we have a quick super productivity tip. I'll do a series on some of my productivity ideas and kind of the best practices that I've learned. Big fan of David Allen and getting things done and old school guys like Brian Tracy and modern fun Tim Ferriss type of ideas. So super productivity tip number one, if something takes you less than two minutes to do, one touch it. This is huge. It's my number one practice. If it takes less than two minutes, one touch it. And that starts with your email. You know, a lot of us get a lot of email. I think all of us get a lot of email and a lot of times we avoid one touching our emails. But the reality is almost all of the email we get, not all of it, of course, but almost all of it takes less than two minutes to deal with. Scheduling an appointment, responding to something, answering yes or no, whatever. And we usually don't respond, not because it takes a lot of time, but because we're avoiding making a decision about it. We'll make the decision, send the email reply, have a practice of keeping things flowing. It keeps the energy going, which is a good thing, and it keeps the ball moving forward. So your emails. That takes less than two minutes, one touch it. We'll talk about what to do if it doesn't in future emails, in future emails, in future videos, and then also just think about things like your bills. Usually you go to the mailbox, you get your bills, it only takes you a couple of minutes to write the checks. Then you can walk right back out and send the bills. Super efficient. Stops things from building up in your mind and in your space, etc. Your clothes, put them where they belong. It doesn't take longer than two minutes. Dishes. As you go through the day, rarely does it take more than two minutes to finish your dishes. After you eat breakfast or lunch or whatever, do it. Cleaning stuff up just in general, put it where it belongs and then capturing ideas. When you have a good idea, capture it. You do have a trusted system, right? Another big super productivity tip that we'll talk about. It's one of David Allen's top ideas as well. Capturing all the ideas you have. I use something called Omnifocus and basically follow the getting things done protocol. Again, we'll talk about that a lot more. But these little things are really important. When you have a messy inbox or you have a messy house or a messy desk and things laying around everywhere in your house, it actually affects your willpower. There's been scientific research on this. A cluttered desk. A messy life actually decreases your willpower by tidying things up in your life. And this is one of the primary ways you can do it. By handling little things as they come up. Just keeps your life energy really flowing and really clean. It actually directly affects your willpower. Stunning stuff. And of course, you're building willpower each time you do this type of thing. So you get a win win. You both kind of build and strengthen your willpower muscle. And then you get the subtle benefit of having a better, cleaner, more pure work environment and life environment. So there you go. Super quick one today. Super productivity tip. If it takes less than two minutes, one touch it. I'm not perfect at this and I got some emails that I didn't. One touch a baby has certainly impacted my overall productivity. But it's fun to develop and really see how important practices like this are. When we have more responsibilities and more challenges in our life, it's that much more important that we really dial in these types of little practices. There you go. This resonates with you. Go ahead and rock it. Try it out. I think you'll love it. Let me know what you think and let me know if you got any other ideas that you'd like me to talk about in terms of productivity or anything else. Have another awesome day. See ya.
