Brian Johnson records a short Heroic Plus One from a hotel balcony in Athens after a week with ~200 members of the Heroic community. He reflects on seeing the Orion constellation, connects that image to Michael Balschan’s rising leadership, and announces that Michael will assume the role of CEO and Head Coach while Brian transitions to Heroic Chairman and Philosopher in Residence. Michael adds a brief outro thanking Brian, promoting Heroic resources (Philosopher's Notes, masterclasses, app, coaching), and asking listeners to subscribe.

Hi, this is Brian. Welcome Back to another Heroic Plus One. I started typing this at 10:04pm on a Friday night. I was in my hotel in Athens. The wifey and the kids were asleep and I was reflecting on an extraordinary week we just spent with nearly 200 members of our heroic community. I'll chat about some details in future plus ones. For now, I want to chat about what I saw as I stepped onto the balcony to soak in the sounds of of the Aegean Sea and the beauty of this seaside town. As I looked up at the beautiful night sky, I saw the constellation Orion rising from the east. I smiled as I thought of the fact that it was the ancient Greeks who looked up from the same spot at the same stars and named that constellation and gave us the myth to tell the story of the great hunter in the sky. Then I thought of the great heroic hunter in my life whose radiant light and power is rising. Our beloved heroic president and head coach, Michael Balschan. If you haven't watched my tribute to him at an event earlier this year and you'd like to shed some tears, check it out. We got a link to it in this plus one. Now, Michael has been effectively running the business for the last few years and it has been extraordinarily inspiring to see him do so with more and more skill and power. I've always known that I've wanted to find a capable leader to run our business as the CEO of Heroic to allow me to fully step into my commitment to lead our heroic movement from the philosophical side of things. Now I thought we'd make that transition in the next one, two or three years. But with everything going on in the world and our desire to forge antifragile velocity with our Public Benefit Corporation earlier this week we decided to accelerate that process and I am incredibly excited to let you know that Michael will be stepping into the role of heroic CEO and Head Coach while I will be stepping into the role of Heroic Chairman and Philosopher in residence. Just typing that and saying that makes my soul smile now. I am so proud of Michael and so thrilled to have his partnership in helping us to fulfill our mission. And that's what I was thinking about as I listened to the waves crash outside Athens and imagined those ancient citizens looking up at the night sky and admiring their powerful hunter. It's day one. We are all in on doing everything we can to serve our all time favorite hero, you all day, every day. Especially today. Little P.S. you want to see one of my all time favorite pictures? And tied for first picture from our time in Athens. Check out this picture. It's in our plus one of Michael and I embracing after he delivered our closing keynote sending our heroic guides out into the world. Super special moment. Glad that we were able to capture it. PPS after drafting this note, I turned my phone back on and sent it to Michael. Now he had just sent me a half a dozen texts on how we can serve our corporate partners. That's like him and we shared a sacred virtual moment together. Then he told me he stepped outside and snapped a picture of the hunter and sent me a picture the following morning at 4am as he and his beautiful family were heading to the airport. Check out the plus one on the app for a picture of the Hunter Orion in the Athenian night sky.
