Guidelines for Pulling MVRs

Hunter Nelson walks through when to pull Motor Vehicle Reports for insurance quotes. Pull an MVR only when a prospect is engaged and you plan to quote them, since each one costs about $20. Order it before you present a price to catch any surprises, and use your rating system's point-of-sale feature to request both the MVR and claims history.

All right, I'm going to run through a quick video of when and how to pull mvrs. So when do you pull an mvr? Pulling an MVR costs the agency money. It is about 20 bucks an MVR, which doesn't sound that much, but we get about 200 quote requests a week or a month, maybe 150. And if you went in there and pulled an MVR for every single person we did. And multiple mbrs per person because you get all the quotes, it adds up pretty dang quick. I've spent thousands of dollars in mvrs before. So we want to be very careful when we're pulling mvrs. You know, don't pull an MVR if the guy's not gonna answer the phone to get the quote, you know, so if they sound very. If it's like a normal person, pretty interested in a quote actually is semi responsive. And it's not just a guy who's like, ah, yeah, blah, blah, you can quote me. I probably won't answer the phone ever again. Go and pull an mvr. So we pull an MVR on the cheapest quote. So Blaine Nelson, for example. Oh, that's right. It won't even let me. Gosh dang it. All right, so I found somebody. So when you're quoting people, run through all the quotes. Whoever has the cheapest price will pull the mvr. We always, always, always want to pull an NVR before, before we present a quote, because nothing's worse than presenting a quote. You pull an MVR and all of a sudden it's 500 more than what you just told them. And now they're like, oh, great. Yeah, you're seeing it's 500 bucks and now you're saving a penny. You just waste each other's time. So what you're going to do is you get the coverage screen. This is going to be for personal, it'll be for commercial. You get to the coverage screen, you're going to click the next option. It's going to give you payment options usually. And then you're going to click order point of sale. And you're going to see here, it's going to pull a clue and it's going to pull an mvr. So the clue is the claims history. The is clues for home, because obviously there's no MVR for home. So this is the, this is the rating factors as we pulled. MVR is a motor vehicle report. This is your speeding. This is your violations Clue is your hail claims, your, whatever the case is, your accidents. So you always Order this before we do anything. You do want to be careful sometimes on like Progressive it says Finish and buy. Yes, it sounds scary to click that because you might think you're buying the policy. You can bind a policy without payment. So if you're uncertain just double check with somebody. But Progressive you can click Finish and buy. Enter in the driver's license number for this is for commercial and then it will say do you want to order on VR it's click yes obviously and boom, you go there. Usually it's pretty dang tough to bind the policy by mistake. Then they want to really watch out for is Roberts Farm Mutual. You cannot order mvrs at all. So when you click submit application it just automatically submits and binds it. Basically you know Berkshire you combine without a payment but usually you're selecting like don't make a payment for now and then you click Bind policy. So obviously if you see anything that's a bind policy, do not do that. Cover whale to to request or to pull nvrs you need to request a bind. Do not do that. So we can pull mvrs through FLMVR for commercial lines if we're submitting it to brokerage or if it's a canal or if it's a cover wheel type deal. Personal lines. Pretty dang easy. You go in here, you click, you go a little bit further and order point of sale or you know it's going to say right here you're ordering Clue and auto or auto VR travelers mfm. Everything else is very very simple. My state run reports any that type of stuff but that is how you pull an MVR recover like just kind of re re going through the same find the best quote order MVR. Once some companies do allow you to go without paying for mvrs like geico, National General. So always, always pulling VRs on those guys with without even thinking. And we always hold mvrs before we ever present anything. Last deal here real quick is you know if you got a company like National General or, or Geico, you can go in there, pull the, pull the mvrs and then go on to here and just manually answer them. So pulling over for free and then put it in there. That's how you do mbrs. Quick and easy just like that.
