"The President Tweets About Me” — Is Scaramucci Afraid?

A filmed interview with Anthony Scaramucci in which he reflects on how money and a humbling 11‑day White House stint changed him, criticizes Donald Trump’s leadership while describing cooperative ties with Eric Trump around bitcoin, and discusses crypto markets. Scaramucci praises figures like Michael Saylor, argues Solana should be an operating layer for tokenized finance if regulation allows, and offers a cautiously optimistic outlook for bitcoin and some altcoins in 2026 contingent on clearer U.S. legislation.

Has money changed you in any way?
I think it did change me, and then I got my ass ridiculously kicked. People that say that money doesn't change you are lying to you.
So do you blame Trump for not having an altcoin season this year?
He's part of it. He's a terrible leader. He's hurt the country. So I think that's also hurt the industry because it slowed down the regulatory process. Eric Trump is in bitcoin. He's for bitcoin. God bless him. I'm here to help him.
Anthony Scaramucci, thanks for sitting down, having a chat with us.
It's great to be with you.
I think we'll kick it off with the obvious question off the bat. I mean, what's your thoughts on how.
You'Re a very rich guy, though, Right? I'm pretty sure you are. Right, because.
Rich.
Yeah, because the poor people dress with the suit and tie now. The rich people dress like you. Right. You're very rich. Right. Talking to the camera, tell the people how rich you are.
Oh, I mean, not as rich as you.
I think you gotta be.
One day I'll be scaring Richard.
I'm dressed in Brioni. You're dressed in bougie.
I mean, no, look, you've got a nice blue suit on. You know, I'm wearing the company's. The company shirt.
Jaguar. I mean, you know, I'm impressed with you crypto people.
Oh, so do you know what they say at a crypto conference? I don't know. They always say the one in sandals and rags is always the richest guy.
But that's what I'm saying, you know, I'm dressed like the security.
I appreciate it. Thank you very much. I'll use it as a. Use it as a quote. Scaramucci says, this guy's rich.
I feel it. I feel it.
Has money changed you in any way? Do you feel like, as a person, like your values?
I think it did change me. And then I got my ass ridiculously kicked. And I think after that humbling experience, after I got fired from the White House like that and kicked to the ground, I think it was very humbling, and I think it actually helped me become more psychologically minded. I think money does change you. By the way, people that say that money doesn't change you are lying to you, because what ends up happening is you have some good decision making, you have some good luck, and then you start to think it's about you and it isn't about you. It's about a combination of things.
Absolutely. And when you say that, you know, you got kicked to the curb with the White House, I mean, how did that actually feel like as a person, you know, when it was so public and, you know, there was tweets, let's step back.
I think it's important to step back. So I had, like, I see Howard Lutnick now, and some of these guys, they have Potomac Fever. You know what Potomac Fever is? Potomac Fever, the river. When you cross over the Potomac river, you're in the District of Columbia, you're in Washington, D.C. and I say that it's Potomac Fever because the people come to Washington thinking they're going to change Washington. You know, Elon Musk had Potomac Fever, Howard Lutnick, Potomac Fever. And the problem is you think you're smarter than the people that are living in Washington. You're going to change Washington. But Washington has an immunological system that changes you. You don't change Washington. You know what the biggest problem with the Potomac Fever? You don't want to know what the number one symptom of the Potomac Fever is. You don't know you have it. And you know who had Potomac Fever? Me. I bought into all of that bs. I had the self argument going and my ego and my price and ego.
Inflating syndrome that just comes about ego inflation, egocentrism.
And so, you know, I wasn't right for Washington. Russian is not right for me. And I got ejected from Washington after 11 days, and then I got excoriated by the press and by the late night comedians and so forth. And I had to pick myself back up and build myself back. And in that process, I think it was very humbling. It made me more psychologically minded, more empathetic. You know, listen, I lasted 11 days. You know, I call that a Scaramucci, 11 days, right. Elon Musk lasted 11.8 Scaramucci. We round up and give him 12 because we like him, you know, but even by his own admission recently, what did he say? He said, I would have never did, knowing what I know now, would have never have done it.
How would you rate Trump's first year in, in presidency in terms of his approach to crypto?
Well, he's been generally very good for crypto. You have to give him his fair due. He's got good political instincts. He recognized that he could champion the crypto. The money would come into his campaign and fellow Republicans, which helped them in 2024. He's picked some great people. Somebody like David Sacks, I think, is a brilliant Guy Scott Bessant is a brilliant, very thoughtful person. Paul Atkins, I think is probably the best SEC chair we've had in a while. And I think he said something very meaningful about crypto, that we're going to be entering an age of full on tokenization. I mean, he said this last week, so I'll repeat it. He said in five years, everything that we trade, stocks, bonds, etc are going to be tokenized. I think they're a monumental thing to say from the chairman of the securities Exchange Commission. So I think he's got good instincts and he's put good people. Remember, you've always got good Trump and bad Trump. So bad Trump is. He's introducing meme coins hours before he gets inaugurated. And so I think that's also hurt the industry because it slowed down the regulatory process. We could have gotten both of those acts passed this year. But I think there was a huge turnoff to his adversaries and it's been harder for the industry to win over the Democrats because of that. But generally he's way better than a Harris or a Biden administration for crypto.
Has your personal opinion on him changed throughout the course of this year seeing what has happened with the crypto industry?
He's a terrible leader. He's hurt the country. The tariffs have been. Even Jerome Powell said yesterday the tariffs have been ridiculously inflationary to the country. The average person in the country is struggling more today than they were eight or nine months ago. And so no. And also the rhetoric against our allies is absurd. There's no reason to have that type of rhetoric against our allies. And he seems to be overly sympathizing with our adversary. So no, I'm a very open person about how I feel about the situation. This is not normal politics. If you watch him on Truth Social and you read his tweets that they're just not normal, it's not normal. We're normalizing something that's very abnormal. And I think Marjorie Taylor Greene actually said it better than me. They hate them, but they're afraid of them and they're, they're unwilling to speak out. But we got to get much smarter people in these jobs and we got to get principal based people in these jobs. People that are not so interested in self enrichment and more interested in serving the public. And I've gotten closer to Eric Trump as a result of bitcoin. You know, we've raised some money together. We put, we both put money into American bitcoin. I respect Eric a lot as a business person and I have a good relationship with Eric.
So you're still friends with the kids, despite your fallout with.
I had Eric. Yeah. I had Eric at our Wyoming bitcoin conference. You know, look, there's politics and then there's business. Okay? The good news about bitcoin, and I believe this firmly, bitcoin should be nonpartisan. And so Eric Trump is in bitcoin. He's for bitcoin. God bless him. I'm here to help him.
And has Eric Trump ever brought that up, like, about the disagreement with you and his father?
I don't think he gets politics. I don't think he really cares. I don't care. Eric Trump says stuff about me. It makes me laugh. I say stuff about him. It doesn't matter. Don't you want. You want bitcoin to go up? Yeah. Me, too. So does Eric Trump. Let's not be babies, right? We're going to be babies. We can have a political disagreement, but let's focus on the business. Let's make money together.
You recently called Michael Saylor the smartest person in crypto.
I think he is the smartest person in crypto, actually. Yeah. Yeah, I think. I mean, there's a lot of smart people in crypto, but Michael has the combination of commercial instincts and smarts, and he has a killer app personality. You know, nobody has taken to the bitcoin story as aggressively as Michael, myself included.
And there's, like, some concerns that eventually he may have to sell some bitcoin. I mean, is that a concern for you?
Well, I mean, I understand the hunt, and I understand hedge funds trolling and so on and so forth, but he just built a $1.4 billion war chest which is going to cover him for at least the next two years. I don't see the risk that other people see there. I think he's incredibly smart guy. He understands the cap structure of his company better than anybody. There is a reason why there's been a proliferation of digital asset treasury businesses and companies in the last 12 months as they're trying to replicate Michael's strategy, because it's a brilliant strategy. And so I'm with him. We own it in our etf, and he's a friend, and he's somebody I want to support, especially when other people are gunning at him.
And you're also a big, vocal advocate of Solana, too. You've written a book about it, and it's one of your core holdings, I guess this year, at the very start of the year, we did see Solana break New highs along with bitcoin after the Trump administration fueled rally. But for the majority of this year then it's been a downtrend along with altcoins as well. And you know, everyone is starting again.
I think that that was Trump related. I think the Melania and Trump meme coins caused the surge of Solana in early January. It was probably artificial bubble that popped. I think that those meme coins sucked out a lot of the energy from the altcoin space, the meme coin space, and it caused a liquidity crisis in those areas of the, of the cryptocurrency universe. And I think Solana has suffered from that, but it's also suffered from the lack of legislation that should have been passed. Remember, the Solana story is tied to tokenization and utility. To really understand Solana, it should be the operating layer for the future of finance. I'm not saying it's going to control everything, but it should have the preponderance of the market share because of the technical aspects, the technical attributes that Solana has. But you got to get the legislation and the regulation right. It's almost like the American analogy would be the field of dreams. The story from the movie is we'll build it and then they will come. They built this great system and now you need the regulators to come and they were there. But I think that we've set the process of positive regulation back by some of the self dealing nonsense that's gone on.
So do you blame Trump for not having an altcoin season this year?
He's part of it. I mean, he's a contributor. I think there was probably too much exuberance after the election. I think we had a jailbreak after the election. Prices went up and then the expectation was now that the Gensler hatred and the Elizabeth Warren hatred is behind us, that we would have a halcyon movement. But that never really happens in crypto. You know, if you looked at the greed fear index, we all should have looked at it more carefully. The greed index was super high at the beginning of 2025. It's now flipped the other way. The fear side of that fear. Yeah. And so that's a positive. So we're probably set up to have a very good year next year. We have less leverage in the system, lots of negativity. The cryptoverse on Twitter or X is very, very negative. And that probably bodes well for the coming year.
So then tell us, what is the outlook for 2026? Are we going to get a traditional altcoin season, are we going to see new all time highs for bitcoin?
So, again, I think you can't answer that question in a vacuum. You have to have a little bit of a. But for. And some hypotheticals, you've got to get the clarity legislation in the United States pass. If you get that, then I think you will have bitcoin retrace, go through its all time high. I think you'll have a resurgence in things like Solana and Ethereum. It's not clear to me that all altcoins will move the way they've moved in past cycles. But I still think there'll be a large bucket of altcoins that do well in that environment.
Thank you very much, Anthony, for joining us here.
Good to be on with you. Share some of the wealth. Okay. Share some of the wealth.
Yeah, absolutely.
