Ian Peterman explains how aluminum production destroys rainforests, requires multiple long-distance transports, and demands massive energy for smelting. Recycling aluminum bypasses all those steps and saves a tremendous amount of energy.

Chapters

When you're making aluminum, which is a very energy-intensive material, you start with clear-cutting rainforests in South America to mine bauxite. And then you take that bauxite and transport it about 3 times around the world through smelting. And then there's this huge amount of energy involved in extraction of raw materials and a whole series of cascade of negative consequences. And so if you bypass all of that, Then you are saving a tremendous amount of energy.
