5 Skills That Make ChatGPT & Claude Better at Everything

Igor Pogany shows five reusable instruction sets (skills) that make Claude and ChatGPT automate complex workflows. The Grilling skill asks 15-25 clarifying questions to sharpen ideas, the Professional Reports Generator outputs .docx files, and UnSlop scans AI text for 31 patterns of generic phrasing and rewrites it to sound human.

Recently, even the most advanced users of AI shifted to using way more skills. Some of them can show you different perspectives, others refine your ideas. Yet again, others make the AI writing sound less like AI. I truly believe that there is a skill out there for everyone. And in this video, I'm going to give you a quick intro to skills and show you the top 5 skills that I think you should be considering. I'm just excited about showing you too. They're free, work in ChatGPT and Claude. Let's get to it. So let's start with the basics. What is a skill? Well, it's basically an instruction manual that Claude or ChatGPT can reuse. So you don't have to re-explain the process again and again in every conversation. Now, as of accessibility, I want to be clear, Claude adapted this first, and you can access them under Customize. And here, if you go down to Skills, you can see various skills. You can add them here in this button on the top right saying Add, where you can upload skills or create new ones. If you have an existing one, you could just click it. And with these 3 dots, you can download it. That's Claude. That's how you download and upload them. Okay. And it works also on the free plan in Claude. In ChatGPT, it's a bit different. They added them recently. And as of now, might change in the future. But as of now, they're only accessible inside of ChatGPT Work. And Work is only available on the paid plan for $20. As soon as you have Work, you would click Plugins here on the left. And then up here, you can see the Skills tab. This is a bit non-obvious. But when you go there, you can see that you can add skills by clicking plus and upload from your computer, or you could be creating new ones. Same thing goes for downloading, you just click these 3 dots and you can download a skill. And at the end of the day, they are just markdown files, which means they're basically just text. Now there's one nuance, and that is that Claude actually changes the text format to a .skills file. But honestly, it's just text in the background. So these are transferable, it might not always be perfectly smooth. But it's basically text files. So let's talk about what these do. Well, they execute the instructions. Sure, they can also include code. But mainly, it's just text. I always say they're prompts in a shoebox. But honestly, with some of these that I'll be focusing on today, you don't even need to know exactly how it works. I mean, it's all there. It's in the text. If you're worried about the security aspect of any skill, you can always just open it and just read the text. Like, that's it. There's no hidden agenda or something inside of the skills. And what I'm going to be doing in this video is giving you a folder with all the skills that I talked about here today. Just gonna put them up on Google Drive. We're going to credit everybody because I didn't create every single one of these. But you can just download them from the link in the description and then install them in ChatGPT or Claude. Alright, that's your intro to skills. Let's look at the first one. And the first one we should always look at is actually a built-in one. This one you won't install, but you need to know about it. It's called— and if I go all the way to the bottom of the list, this one is called Creator, and the Skill Creator is basically a skill that well lets you create and save other skills. So maybe you're doing something in Claude and you did a multi-step process. You can always go in and say slash Skill Creator, turn what I did into a skill, and it will save that. Now knowing of the Skill Creator can be very useful because in various situations, maybe you're uploading a ChatGPT skill and it's different file format. You can always just say. Skill creator and be like, save this skill to my library. Oftentimes, if you do that without calling the skill creator, it will struggle a little bit. So that's really it. ChatGPT has the same thing. I should note that if you're in ChatGPT, you don't say slash, you say at. And the second difference is that they call this the template creator in ChatGPT. It's the same thing. Okay, that was sort of a prep skill. Now let's get into the actual list. And I'll start with the one that is probably the most popular across both consumers and developers and everybody else. It's called Grilling. And it's a skill created by a fellow creator called Matt. And he publishes a bunch of workflows and different things. But this one is just called Virality. And basically, the idea is very simple. It just asks questions until it has clarity on an idea that you want to pursue. Okay. So oftentimes, you might have a direction in mind. If you grill the idea, well, this skill might hit you over the head with 25 questions. Luckily, it always has a suggested answer. So you can kind of just say, yeah, I agree with all the recommendations. But it does take some work. In some cases, I had up to 50 questions to clarify something. Usually, it's between 15 and 25. And the entire instructions on this are right here. So look, there's a few ways you could download the skills from the link in the description. Again, it's free. There's no catch. It's just a Google Drive file from me. Or alternatively, you could go to this page, you could copy this skill. And in Claude, you could say, hey, /skillcreator, Save this as a skill. And then you paste the content. I already did that and have it. It's called grilling. This is the one that I'm sharing with you. And now let me show this to you in practice. I want to start a hot dog selling business. Okay, very little detail, right? So if I say, say slash grilling and I hit enter, you will now see it come up with a bunch of ideas to clarify this. It kind of goes round by round. It clumps questions. Questions together. So you might answer high-level questions first, and then things about the business model second. And then it always pushes the frontier further and asks questions at the frontier. That's how it works. It just comes in multiple rounds. A lot of these skills, they're built for Claude Code or OpenCLaw or Hermes, where you have access to subagents, meaning you can spin up extra chats where the AI just goes off and does something. So it does use that language in here, a subagent to find information. The fact is, if you just use the skill creator, you will adapt the skill and you can use it in chat too. And there we are. Here are the questions. So you can see number 1, what is the business actually for? And then it gives an answer and it gives a recommendation. You could also go full lazy and just be like, agree or recommendations. But that kind of defeats the purpose of the skill. Oftentimes you will also see multiple choice answers right afterwards. So because this one is so wide open, it doesn't even give you choices. Kind of gives you freeform answers. But there you go. That's grilling. This is, I would highly recommend you try this one. It's so useful. And people who create stuff, build things, this is often the very first thing they do with their idea. They grill it, and then they're clear on what they want to do. And AI is just amazing for this. Second is one that we actually use internally. This is so simple, and you can customize it to your own workflows. I actually don't have it in this Claude account. So I'll just show you the uploading. I go to upload, I'll drag and drop the skills file into here. And boom, that's how simple it is. Now I have the professional reports generator. This is a generic version. You would want to customize this skill to the kind of reports that you're creating. But this is a really great one to create any sort of report. If I click the skill, you can always open it up and see what's inside. First, it clarifies the scope, then it searches the web, and then it plans the report structure. And only then does it write the content. And finally, we end with a .docx file. You could change the file format there. But you can see how this is a multi-step process where it only delivers in step Rather than just giving you a report right away, it's just a superior workflow. And let's say you work with somebody who keeps giving you very sloppy reports that are created by AI. Well, you can hand in the skill and be like, "Hey, here's a process that you should actually follow when doing these." Because really, what you're doing is just pushing your work onto me, and a report generator like this avoids that because well, it goes through these multiple rounds before you actually get something. Look at it asking me questions. It sort of has a mini version of grilling built in. But yeah, it's just the age-old technique to let AI ask clarifying questions before you move on. This skill has that built in. So if you're creating reports. I recommend this one. We have versions of this customized to our own templates internally. Super good and easy win if you create reports regularly. Hey, and as I said, everything in this video is free and there's no catch to the skills that are downloaded. But if you're interested in learning more stuff like this, if you enjoy this, if you want to start saving time with AI and get these low-hanging fruits and tools that we built for you so you don't have to do the work yourself, well, that's why we created the AI Advantage Club. We have multiple courses in there and we add new content and have new guests every single month. Everything is about upgrading your fluency with AI and getting you time back. If that sounds like something that's interesting to you, make sure to click the first link in the video description. You can get a trial for $1 only where you get access to everything. And also, I'm the main instructor in there. So if you enjoy this, chances are you would love the club. Alright, let's look at the next skill. And this one is a personal favorite of mine. But you got to know that I'm sort of an ideas guy, a creator, you might say. And this one is, well, it's there to refine your ideas. So let's just take this ridiculous example of the hot dog stand that we were kind of throwing around here. And let's say, I want to start a hot dog stand to finance my life. Now, Idea Refine is kind of wild. And it also hasn't been created by me. This is yet another agent skill. And there's multiple layers to this. But basically, it generates 5 to 8 idea variations using these frameworks. And then there's way more details under it. But if you're not sure about an idea, and you want alternatives, this is the one. It uses inversion. What if we did the opposite? Uses simplification. What's the version that's 10 times simpler? Or the 10x version? What would this look like at massive scale? And it just gives you these different perspectives that no single human brain can consider at once. I made slight tweaks to that skill inside of Claude. And what you'll see here is something that does take quite a bit of brainpower to even read, because it's just going to be these completely varying perspectives on your idea. So the grilling skill that I showed you is that, hey, you have an idea and you want to get clear on the details of it. This one is about finding alternative ideas. Okay, so it goes through some economics, and then here are the alternatives: the night and weekend card. So this would be the constraint on time lens, and you might have to pull up this reference page. I know I did in the beginning. So this removes the constraint on time. What if budget, time, tech weren't factors? And that's exactly the customization I made here. I added the lens in here because by default it comes without this lens, and it was just so confusing to me. So look, Friday and Saturday only, 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., near the nightlife spill in Caixa Saldra da da da. All right, so that's a very lightweight version. How about inversion? If I do the opposite, the owner you hire, you never stand in the cart, you buy the cart, secure the pitch, hire a student to run it and keep the spread. Okay, so it inverts the idea of me running the cart, right? So let's look at one more, maybe the simplification. I always enjoy that one. 10 times simpler. The €300 version. Rent a stall at a Lisbon market for 2 Saturdays, borrow or rent equipment, sell 100 dogs. Count what you actually make and how you actually feel at hour 7. Yeah, so that's the simpler version. I mean, all of these are useful. Again, you're gonna need a lot of brainpower to even consume this. But Idea Refine is really good at showing you alternatives that are, well, sometimes far out there and unusable. And sometimes you get the moment of like, oh, how did I not consider that? And hey, if you're getting value from this video, make sure to subscribe. We're so close to half a million. Help us get there. And now let's move on with the video. Next one is a skill that became popular on Twitter over the past few weeks because a lot of Anthropic staff uses it internally. To explain things like you're 5 in a visual way. Now, you might have heard of that prompt, right? Explain like I'm 14, explain like I'm 5, all of that where it simplifies down what you do. But this goes deeper. It creates an HTML that really shows off complicated ideas in a super, super simple way. So when you're learning new things, Eli 5 is actually super useful. So look here, I did /eli5 explain the US tax system. I mistyped, but it understood it. And it created this artifact with the skill. Now, look at this. Not many things are more complicated than the US tax system, right? Well, you can agree on that. Sure, you could come up with something, but it's like up there. And then this skill created this beautiful visual that shows you where your paycheck goes. Now, given this might not be at the level of a 5-year-old, fair enough. But it shows you, hey, if you make $60K, this is basically how things land. This is the federal income tax with the different levels. And you just get these simplified visuals to understand it. Your tax return is a receipt check. This is what you get back. And this is the federal government spend on what it uses taxes for. Like, we're not here to debate taxes. We're here to show you that this skill can make the most complicated things on planet Earth digestible. And it's a fantastic first step into new topics. And no wonder that Anthropic staff loves this, because they deal with new ideas all the time. And you can have the power of that too. Eli 5. I put it in the package. It's in the zip file below. All right, let's look at the next one. And this is sort of a bonus skill because all these other ones I actually use regularly and have used extensively. This one I just found, but I think you would enjoy this. So I kind of wanted to throw this in as a bonus. It's called UnSlop. And basically, if you're not familiar with the terminology, AI slop is what people refer to as lazy work where they just handed it off to AI. And essentially, you're pushing the work onto the next person. That is responsible for the next steps. And also, it often returns to the style of AI writing that just is robotic and sloppy. So what this one does is very simple. Again, it's just text here. But it basically scans for various patterns, and it adds soul, and it audits for certain recurring AI words. And I just saw this, and I was like, yes, this is right. I like it. Have opinions, vary rhythm, use I when it fits, all things that AI basically avoids in its writing. And then you have all of these patterns that it detects and fixes. Like, of course, you have classic stuff like em dashes in here. But there's way more. It scans for all of these 31 things for you. And I'll show you how I would install a skill that, well, even in this case is meant for agents. But I'll just put it into my Claude because I want to use that on the go and easily all the time. I'm just going to copy this. And this time, I'm going to do it in ChatGPT. I'm going to say add template creator, that will be /skill creator in Claude. I'm just gonna say save this Unslop skill and then paste this in. And there it is. Unslop is created. Now I could say add Unslop at any time. And that's pretty much how you do it. One last thing before I send you off, security. Now look, there's thousands of skills out there. I wanted to show you the ones that I use regularly here today. But be careful when downloading these because they can have malicious code or text in them. So, you know, downloading them is not a problem. Just look over them if you're not getting them from a trusted source. Like me, I mean, I've been here for four years pouring my heart and soul into this. The download file below is literally just exports from my personal Claude account that I use all the time. Okay, but if you go out there and if you're some GitHub repository from a person you've never heard before, and I don't know, you look at it and maybe it has a few hundred stars, you know, just read through the whole thing. At the end of the day, it's just text, but it definitely is a way that somebody could put some code in there. That could do something on your computer that you don't want. I haven't heard of an instance of that before. I just want to make sure that you're aware that it could be a possibility. And then finally, I'll just say share the love. If you have some skills that you love, leave a comment below. I would love to hear about them. These are my favorite ones. And that's basically it. My name is Igor, and I hope you have a wonderful day. Bye.
