Claude vs. ChatGPT Just Got Serious

In this video Igor Pogany walks through the latest updates to the Gmail and Google Drive connectors for Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. He first explains how to enable the paid‑plan connectors, then demonstrates practical workflows: AI‑assisted email triage (reviewing recent unread messages, categorising them into Reply Today/Review Later/No Action, drafting replies and optionally sending them), and document creation/editing in Google Docs (creating new docs, editing existing ones, sharing, moving, deleting). Throughout he compares the two assistants, highlighting that ChatGPT currently offers more robust capabilities—inline document editing, viewing email attachments, integrated Drive view, and a richer interface—while Claude can now send/reply/forward emails and delete/create docs but cannot edit existing docs or read attachments. He notes limitations such as only one email account per connector and work‑arounds for multi‑account users. Additional features showcased include ChatGPT’s @deepresearch tool for synthesising information from web links into a doc, built‑in restaurant reservation and quiz functions, and the new Drive file browser inside ChatGPT. Igor recommends using ChatGPT Work for attachment‑heavy email workflows and promotes his AI Advantage Club for personalized AI productivity training.

Both in ChatGPT and Claude, these connector launches an update, like Google Mail or Google Drive. They're a mess. So just had a Claude announcement that, hey, the Google Mail connector got smarter and better. It can send emails now. And Google Drive can do way more now. They can manage files, whatever that means. So what I want to do today is skip all of this announcement language and just tell you exactly what they can do and what kind of workflows you could be doing every day with these tools. Because that's what matters, how you're actually putting it to work and if it can do novel things that are useful to you. So with that being said, let's have a look at the Google Mail and Google Drive connectors in both ChatGPT and Claude. And I think you might be surprised by how capable some of these are— sending emails, creating documents, editing documents. But spoiler alert, ChatGPT is actually way more capable when it comes to all of this. And this video will show you the exact boundaries, plus some recommended workflows that I believe a lot of people will be adapting into their everyday work, which is amazing. Alright, super quick recap on what happened. Well, Claude had this release that, hey, their connectors are so much better now. And ChatGPT over the past 2 months has been shipping like almost weekly updates to their own version of these connectors, which they call plugins. Okay, so it's different language, the same thing, you basically connect Google Drive or Google Docs. And now, your ChatGPT or Claude can interact directly with Gmail and do things like draft emails and now even send them. But as I said, it's a bit confusing because they're at different levels of capabilities. So let me just start with examples that are going to be convenient to you, hopefully. And I think the very first one is something that you should consider doing if you're not doing this already, which is email management with the help of AI. Hey, and before we begin, one thing that I should add is that these connectors and what I'm showing off today is on the paid plans. You need to pay $20 a month to get access to this. But I believe that what I'll be showing you here is actually well worth it, especially if you spend a lot of time on admin tasks like emails and working with documents. Okay, so baseline, I basically have these things connected up. I'm not going to be explaining how because you just log in. You can go here to plus, connectors, and then manage connectors. And here under add, you would browse connectors and look for Gmail and G Drive. Then you just log in. Same thing in ChatGPT, you just go to settings, plugins, And then either they're in the list here or below under Browse Plugins. Now that we've established the context, so we're all on the same page, let's get to my favorite part, which is doing things. So let's start with this cheeky little prompt that I would recommend to you. Review up to 15 unread emails from the last 48 hours. Group each into Reply Today, Review Later, or No Action. Then draft a concise reply to the most urgent Reply Today email using the full thread, but ask before sending. And as long as your connector is enabled to Gmail, this is probably the simplest way you could start working with AI plus email. You can do the same thing in ChatGPT. But basically, we're going to put them into 3 buckets and tell it that, hey, anything that needs to be replied to today, already draft a reply. Now, here we start talking about the updates. So it could draft things before already. That's why a lot of people are confused by this. But now it can also send. So if I'm happy with the draft, I could just say, yeah, send it, and the email is actually gonna go out. I could also say, hey, for everything that's replied today, just write replies and send them. Wouldn't recommend that though, you could do it now. So there's some great recommendations, I would agree with these. And there's a draft to the most urgent email, which I would actually agree. Now let's review ChatGPT's result. Oh, it was actually way more critical on the evaluation. Look at that, only 2 things that need to be replied to today. There's some test emails we just sent to review later, and a bunch of no action stuff. So from these 2 lists, me personally, just first try, I would agree with the ChatGPT evaluation here more. These are the 2 that actually need replies today, whereas there's a bunch of noise here. So here's a note on what's new. What they added additionally to sending is also you can reply to emails, you can forward emails. And then as mentioned, you can also send emails. These are all new in Claude. ChatGPT could already do this. Additionally, and this is a really important one regarding email, if you're in Claude and there's an email with an attachment, it is not going to be able to see inside of the attachment. To me, that's crazy important. We send PDFs back and forth all the time via email. ChatGPT, on the other hand, can totally do that. It sees inside of the attachments. Now, if this is not working for you right away, I would recommend switching to ChatGPT Work. That's where these features really shine, and stuff like email triage is really gonna work well. So for this use case of working with your inbox, I would definitely recommend ChatGPT Work right now because of the Cloud Gmail limitations. Those attachments are mission-critical to me. All the other features both have now, which is nice to know. And if you don't work with a lot of attachments, then both are great, I suppose. One more thing that I want to add on this email note is that if you have multiple emails, it's a problem with both of these. I personally have, what, 5 or 6 emails, and you can only connect one here. A workaround that some people do is they just forward all the emails from, I don't know, email number 2, 3, 4, 5 to one inbox, and then they connect that inbox. But it's kind of messy. And then also, if you want to reply in the other email, you can't really do it. So yeah, that's a big limitation right now. When it comes to working with one email, ChatGPT is just better now. And hey, if you enjoy practical workflows like this, you would love the AI Advantage Club. We have a brand new onboarding that I'm so excited about. I've been working on this for months with the team. I'm the architect of the entire learning experience there. All the courses are from me. We're adding new courses every month. You would love it. Again, $1 to try it. First link in the description below. Alright, back to the video. So let's look at the next big one, which is creating and working with Google Documents. And this is where they were pretty unclear, to say the least, in their announcement. So we went ahead and tested actually all the different functionalities relating to Google Docs. And let me just show you. So let's start with the basics, which is just creating a Google Doc. I'm going to pick a random topic, something that relates to our first use case. And I'm going to send this to both Chat and Claude. Now it asks for permissions. And at this point, it would be probably wise to talk about permissions in both these. You can go to your settings down here. And then inside of connectors, you can manage how much access these have. So if I go on Gmail, for example, you can see all the permissions in here, you can see that it does not need to ask me when it comes to things like reading, because everything is on this setting right here. When it comes to writing or deleting, it always asks me for permission. If I wanted to switch that off, I could flip all of these to, well, this mode right here, and it would just go for it. You can see for sending email messages, I somehow gave it the permission already. And I can change that back to needs approval instead of always allow. And there you go. Those are all the capabilities and how you control them too. But now back to our use case, which is this email triage plan. You can see it created a new Google Doc. I'll just open that link. Let's have a look. And there it is. It created a beautiful 2-page Google Doc, a good starting point for whatever you might be doing. Oh, ChatGPT wanted permission. So I'll give it that. And there it is. Now, what I really like about Chat is that they also updated the interface and you see the Google Doc right in side of here. It's not a separate tab as here with Claude, but it's just right inside. So I think that is one advantage, full interface in here. But then furthermore, this is the most important thing that I learned. Even with these updates, if I see something like make it more detailed, add 2 pages, just because this is going to demo well in both of these, you're going to quickly see the limitation of Claude. It cannot edit these documents. What Claude will do here is One, delete this doc, which is a new capability. Great, it can do that now. And 2, create a second version of the document. Whereas ChatGPT can go in here and actually make changes. So see, Claude is trying to use create file. Sure, because it has to do that. And there it is. It's not even done yet. But you can already see the same document was expanded to 6 pages now inside of ChatGPT. Claude deleted the first version. And now there's a brand new Google Doc. This one is in trash. And the new one, yeah, it's expanded. But if you want to use this as a layer where humans are working on it, or maybe you're making changes yourself, the ability to edit existing documents in chat is huge, in my opinion. Now on top of that, I want to show you a few quick tricks that I stumbled upon when looking at all of this. One is that you can now share these documents from here to share this doc with Antonio that we just talked to via email. I can make mistakes in there. But Antonio is gonna get this file, who's helping me record this right here. Boom, There it is. It can make those changes now too. That's a part of the update. So you can change sharing, you can delete files, you can move them. But when it comes to editing, still limited to ChatGPT. And this interface in here is just wonderful right now. Now, a few additional tips inside of ChatGPT. You can, since I think a week now, also run deep researches that read documents. Okay, so for anybody not familiar, this is one of the most powerful ChatGPT features where it goes out and looks at hundreds of links and synthesizes all of that into one research document for you. It's probably the easiest agentic use case and so, so powerful if you're looking at new topics, comparing options, or you just want to get a lot of intelligence on a certain topic. Well, now you could activate deep research here in chat by saying @deepresearch. And then you can say, use the document we have on AI email triage and research how people are doing this across the internet. And now it's gonna use the connector to take the document that we just created and run a deep research. This might take like 10 to 15 minutes, but it's going to be really comprehensive. And this was a thing that hasn't been available before. Deep research did not work with these docs. Okay, so that's it when it comes to these connectors. A few more fun things when it comes to ChatGPT that came out throughout the last week. It has a specialty feature for restaurant reservations now. It triggers when you just ask for reservations. And there's a brand new feature in the background that makes that possible. I believe the changes, the integration of this new interface where I could, yeah, select a time for its recommendation. I would actually agree with this. I've been here multiple times. This is one of the best, if not the best here. And yeah, it could be like 7:45. And boom, if it's connected up to my information, I can book from right within here. You can see this is new. Additionally, there's a new feature where you can let it quiz you. That's also hidden. You just have to ask for a quiz and it will do that. There it is. It's this interface right here. And then final note, if you go into your library, you can see your Google Drive within here now. So you could access files like this. You don't even need to go into Google Drive anymore and just go into docs like so, and then start chatting with them to use all the features. So they really blended ChatGPT and Google Drive, which our company runs on, and many others do too. If you use it, I think this is huge. The Gmail stuff is useful, but most people have multiple emails. That would be the game-changing feature. It's probably something right now where you can kind of get used to how working with AI and email feels like inside of ChatGPT. And in the future, with multi-email support, it's just going to be a game changer for most people, I believe. But yeah, this is how it begins. Feature by feature, week by week, we're getting there. I hope you enjoyed this week's news video where I showed you what changed and what, in my opinion, matters.
