MONK MODE - The Best Decision I've Ever Made

Jimmy Fung, a 23-year-old Toronto entrepreneur, reflects on completing a year of Monk Mode, a challenge focused on disciplined focus and personal responsibility. He shares financial progress, mindset shifts, and lessons about embodying the successful version of yourself through committed action.
It's been exactly a year since I started my Month Mode journey. And in the last 365 days I've made over $300,000. And in December 2023, so the month before this, I was actually able to make $50,000 a month inside of my business. So for those of you who do not know who I am, if you have never seen my YouTube channel before, my name is Jimmy Fung and I'm a 23 year old living in Toronto, Canada. And I started Monk Mode last year in January 1, 2023. And and in this video I wanted to give my honest opinions, my honest thoughts about Monk Mode and give you my three biggest takeaways about what I have learned from doing Monk Mode for the last year. So just to give a little bit of background context, obviously I started monk mode January 1st, 2023, but before that I was actually working at McDonald's flipping burgers for $14 an hour. And I was also a full time university student studying business. And I kind of knew that I was destined to do more. So that's kind of when I realized I needed to make a change and focus a little bit more on my day to day actions, my day to day inputs, and just pretty much put my head down, focus and get to work. So when I first started my Month Mode journey, I was working anywhere from eight to ten hours a day. Pretty much I was just waking up, taking calls from my business, going to the gym, coming home and planning the day and doing more work. And I knew that what I was doing was working, but I just needed to 10x my inputs pretty much in order to just get more results. And pretty much I spent a lot of time just learning different forms of information about business. I was kind of like a sponge and I learned a lot of my information from YouTube. So anytime I had a question, anytime I wanted to learn something specific about my business, whether that was how to build a website, how to do certain things, I would just take advantage of the Internet and actually search up these things, watch a couple of YouTube videos. And the most important part was I would actually take action and, and implement exactly what I was learning. And it's pretty crazy to me because these days all of us have access to the Internet, we have access to unlimited information. And anything you ever wanted to learn specifically about how to make money is literally just one click away. And 50 years ago that, you know, this simply didn't exist. When my parents were my age, if they wanted to learn about how to build a business, it was pretty basically impossible, right? Because Google obviously did not exist. YouTube obviously did not exist. And I knew that we have a very unique opportunity and I wanted to take advantage of that to learn as much as I can about business and how to actually make money. So then by the end of January 2023, I actually ended the month making $13,000. In February 2023, I actually made $23,000. And in the first seven months of 2023, so from January to the end of July, I actually made $150,000. And then obviously last month, in December 20 month off making $50,000. And in today's video, I wanted to talk about my three largest takeaways after doing monk mode for the last 365 days and what I have personally learned about my business journey during this time. Number one, you need to focus, lock in and actually do the work. So there's a ton of videos online from other guys who have done Monk Mode, sharing their experiences of it. But basically my largest takeaway from why Monk Mode works so effectively is because they're basically just locking in. You're allowing yourself to focus, to do the actual work. And at the end of the day, that's literally the stuff that you're doing on a day to day basis in order to actually succeed, get to where you want to be in life and actually make money inside of your business. If you are building a business, right? Because obviously if you just have a plan, you think about it, or you spend all your time learning and you don't actually take action, then obviously you're not going to make money, right? So my largest takeaway from Monk Mode is actually sitting there focusing and locking in and doing the actual work on a day to day basis, day in, day out, regardless of how you feel. Kind of like going to the gym. You could do all the research you want to do online. You can learn about how to grow the largest arm muscles, but if you just refuse, or you never actually step inside the gym every single day to do bicep curls, then obviously your arm would never grow. And that's the exact same thing that I learned about business. You could do all the research you want, learn everything about business that you want to do, and but if you never actually sit there at your desk in front of your computer, if you're running an online business and actually do something meaningful, take action and actually build the actual business, then you're not going to have a business, right? And that's one of the largest takeaway about Monk Mode is just being Able to focus, right? Block yourself out from all the noise. When your friends are going out on a Friday, to the bars, to the clubs, partying every single weekend, you need to be at home and actually building your business. And I'm not here to tell you to ignore your social life, to just grind every single day nonstop and never go out, see your friends, talk to your family, talk with your loved ones. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying everything needs a balance. But you also have to understand that if you're going out every single weekend to get drunk, to get high, to smoke weed, right, to go to the clubs, to go to the bars, then obviously your chance of succeeding will be relatively low. Mainly because you're just not locked in, right? You go out, you drink, you get extremely drunk and the next day you're hungover, right? How can you compete with, with someone who is, who worked the night before, got a full eight hours of rest, and woke up ready and hungry to build your business, right? Because that's your competition. If you are going out and you're always distracted, then it becomes extremely hard to be successful. Get to do whatever it is that you want to do. That your goals that you set out for yourself, and that's the main premise of Monk Mode, right? Is being able to just lock in, tell yourself that your goals are important and do the actual day to day action items that will allow you to hit your goals. And number two, the second thing that I learned from Monk mode, and this is a really big one, is you are the only person who can make the changes that you want in your life. And what I mean by that is you have to understand that if there is a problem inside of your life, if you reflect and think about where you are in life and it's not where you want it to be, no one is coming to save you. Meaning if you hate your job right now, you're not just going to randomly wake up one day and magically do a job that you love. Unless you go and find a new job that you end up liking. Or if you're not where you want to be financially, you're not going to just randomly wake up with fat digits inside of your bank account without you actually putting in the work, investing your money, saving your money and making tons of money in the process. Albert Einstein had a really great quote. He said the definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. So if you really want to make a change in your life, you need to take responsibility, you need to understand that you're the driver's seat of your life and you're the only person who could change the current situation that you're in right now. If you don't like your current situation, it's not just going to randomly change by itself. You need to actually take action. You need to stop reflect on why you're in that situation, and then you need to go and actually take action to actually make the changes that you need to make. And in order for your life situation to change. And the third one, my third takeaway from Monk mode is you need to act like the person that you want to become. And this is an absolutely big one. Because what you need to do is, let's say you set out goals for yourself, whether they be financially, health wise, emotionally, mentally, relationship wise. You need to sit there and think about what you want to achieve in your life. And I want you to sit there, close your eyes and, and imagine yourself achieving all of these goals. What does that person's life look like? What does their day to day look like? Are they waking up every single day smoking weed and playing video games into the late hours of the night? Are they eating fries and drinking soda every single day? Or do they just give up whenever things get remotely hard inside of their business? And the answer to all three of these questions is probably not. And that is exactly how you need to move on a day to day basis. And if you want to hit your goals and become that person that you want to be. So I know for myself, when I first started Muck mode, I imagined myself a future version of Jimmy that was financially successful, making multi six figures a year inside my business while having a strong social life, having good supportive friends who were there, who are there during the down periods and everything like that. And I knew on a day to day basis, in order for me to achieve and become that Jimmy, that version of Jimmy that I wanted to become, I knew that that version of Jimmy, he'd be waking up every single day, putting in the work, regardless of how he felt. I knew that he'd be going to the gym day in and day out, even on the days that he just did not feel like going. And he was extremely unmotivated. I knew that version of Jimmy was also someone who took risks even when they felt uncertain. Right. And they just never gave up. Because one of the largest things that I learned as well is if you just don't give up, then you will never lose. And that's a pretty simple idea, but it's very often true, right? If you just quit, then you just lost right away. But if you're able to stay in it long enough, then you will eventually win. And that's exactly what happened to me. So when I stopped there to actually imagine myself being successful, every single time I faced adversity, every single time I faced a challenge or problem in my business, or every single time I was deciding between sitting at my desk and actually doing work or. Or just lying in bed scrolling TikTok, I knew what the successful version of me would be doing. And I did exactly what that person would be doing. And every single time you do this, if you make it a habit, you take one step closer towards becoming the successful version of you. So Those are my three key takeaways after doing monk mode for the last 365 days. And if you're watching this video, you're probably someone who is just interested in making a change in your life, right? Maybe you're not completely satisfied with where your life situation is right now, or maybe you just hate your job, or you're not where you need to be financially. And if you are any of these people, I strongly suggest you try Monk Mode. Because I know when I did Monk Mode, it completely changed my life. I want you to try Monk Mode. I want you to have a vision in mind of whatever it is you want your life to look like. And I promise you that you will achieve whatever it is that you set out to achieve. I know it did for me. Literally, when I started Monk Mode, I told myself that I'll be making $50,000 a month in my business. And guess what? Last month, in December 2023, on the last month of Monk Mode, I made $50,000 a month inside my business. But it didn't just magically happen that I just randomly woke up and I made $50,000, right? No. Every single day I woke up, I put in the work. I devoted myself. I made very tough decisions, right? Every single time I wanted to give up, I wanted to do just chill when I was unmotivated, right? I decided to still remain present and put in the work. And that's what allowed me to achieve my goal of making $50,000 a month inside my business. Last month, in December 2023. And maybe this sounds like a dream, maybe this sounds like something a guru will tell you. But you're only one decision away from completely changing your life. And that one decision is actually deciding to commit towards your dreams and waking up and taking action every single day in order to make sure you actually achieve what it is that you want in your life. So I hope you found this video valuable. My goal with this video was to give you a little bit of a mindset shift. And I want you to understand that if I can do it, you can, too. The only difference is I made that decision to commit to the process and actually put in the work in order to achieve my dreams. But the only thing stopping you from where you are right now and where you want to be is belief. And for me, I believe in the process, and you need to as well.
