this is how fast you can grow a business from $0 to $50k/mo

Jimmy Fung built a cold-email agency from nothing to $50k/month starting October 2022. The hardest part is landing your first client. He recommends doing the service yourself, guaranteeing results, and raising prices only after you improve outcomes. Expect roughly 90 days to hit $10k if you're fully committed, then another six to nine months to $50k.
Questions this video answers
October 2022.
About 60 days (a little over two months).
For the past six months.
About 90 days if fully committed.
Typically six to nine months after hitting $10k; overall about a year from starting to $50k if following the guidance.
So in this video I'll be talking about a realistic timeline at which you could build a business and go from zero to making over $50,000 a month. And I'm qualified to talk about this because I started my business in October 2022, around one and a half years ago. And I went from 0 to 10k per month in a little bit over 60ish days. So around two months. And for the past six months I've been making over $50,000 per. So this video is for you. If you're running a service based business, this is where this is most applicable for. And what that means is you are selling a service or you are selling a skill to a different business. So if you're running a marketing agency or you're running an smma, then this video is very applicable for you. Or if you're running a lead generation agency, this is not as applicable for you if you are running a product based business or a restaurant or you're a realtor or, or something like that. So when you're first starting your business and you're at $0, you need to understand that getting your very first client is the most challenging thing you will ever do in your business. Because when you're starting from zero, you literally don't have case studies. What you're doing is you're essentially approaching random people on the Internet and being like, hey, I will sell you this thing for thousands of dollars. But I have no proof, I have no evidence that what I'm selling you actually, actually work. So you have to understand that when you're starting your business, you will require, it will require you to do the most amount of work that you will ever need to do in your business. Because you're starting at zero. You really have to go out of your way to really convince someone to give you money. Because that's essentially what you're doing. You're approaching random people with zero proof and zero evidence. And the very best way to do this is doing the thing that you are actually selling. Because I myself, I get approached and I get pitched every single day. So for example, I get pitched YouTube growth services. I get tons of cold emails, I get tons of cold DMs, I even get some people on my comments. You might find it on this comments of this YouTube video of people pitching me YouTube growth services. But the problem with that is every single person who pitches me these YouTube growth services, I take a look, I search up the name on Google, I try to find them on YouTube and they either don't exist I or they have a YouTube channel without a single YouTube video. So these people, what they're doing is they're pitching me YouTube growth services when they don't even have proof that they are doing the actual thing that they're trying to sell me. So the very first thing you need to do is do the thing that you are actually selling. So what this means is if you are selling cold emails as a service. So on my YouTube channel, I talk a lot about building a lead generation agency where the service that you're selling is you're selling cold emails as a service to other business owners. And that's exactly why it is one of the best business models for beginners. Because what you're doing is you're using cold emails to land clients to generate sales opportunities for yourself, and then you're selling it to other business owners. So by the time that you get onto these zoom calls, by the time you're on a sales conversation where you're actually pitching a business owner, you literally have proof that what you're doing works to a degree. Otherwise you wouldn't even be on that sales call in the first place because you generated the entire thing using cold emails. So understand that when you're first starting your business, the very first thing you need to do is make sure you are actually doing the service that you are actually selling. And in that way, when you don't have case studies and you don't have proof that you've done it for someone else, at the minimum you can say, hey, but we've done it ourselves. We started doing this three weeks ago. These are the results for the past three weeks. These are the specific step by steps process that we did to get this specific result for ourselves. So the next thing you need to have, when you're at zero and you don't have any case studies, you don't have a single client, is you need to have a guarantee. Because you have to understand that people are more fearful of losses than they are more open to gains. And business owners are the exact same thing. Because the way they see it, the way they perceive your service, if you're trying to sell them something is if you're trying to ask for $2,000, you they're taking on the risk of just losing that entire $2,000. Even if you're telling them that the potential gain is you will help them make $10,000, the way they perceive it is we're more likely to lose the $2,000 than we are to gain the $10,000. So you have to keep that in mind when you are crafting an offer. And this is exactly why you need to have a guarantee that minimizes the risk for the business owner's point of view. So I talk to a lot of people every single day, and I ask them, hey, hey, do you have a guarantee? And they all say, no, we don't have a guarantee, and we don't want to have a guarantee. So then I next asked them, all right, so you don't want to have a guarantee, that's completely fine. But do you have any case studies? Do you have any testimonials? Do you have any proof that what you're selling actually works? And almost always, they always say no. So then that's exactly my point, right? If you don't have case studies, you don't have proof that what you're selling works, and you also don't have a guarantee that it's gonna be really, really hard to sell, it's gonna be very, very hard to get smart people, smart business owners to hand you thousands of dollars. So that's exactly why you need to have a guarantee. Because essentially, without one, what you're doing is again, you're once again approaching random people on the Internet who do not know you, who do not know who you are, who do not know your name, do not know where you live, do not know what you sell. You're basically asking them to send you $2,000, to send you $3,000, to send you $4,000 without any, any proof that they will ever get a return back. And that's exactly why you need to have a guarantee for your service and for whatever it is that you sell to really minimize the risk for the business owners that you are then pitching. So once you have your first client, one of the largest mistakes that I see people do this is one of the largest mistakes that I personally made was stopping my own client acquisition and stopping my own marketing systems. Because the line of thinking is very logical, right? I'm sending all of these cold emails, I'm reaching out to a lot of people because I have a lot of time, I don't have a client. That's all I need to think about is how can I reach out to as many people as possible. And then once I'm getting a lot of sales calls and once I actually have a client now, suddenly I have some things to do, right? I have to deliver the service that I then sold to my client. So as a result, I also lose a little bit of time, and I can't just be sending a thousand emails every single day because I want to be focusing on delivering the results for my clients. So one of the mis. So one of the largest mistakes that people make is they just turn off their client acquisition systems, they just pause their cold email campaigns, they just stop sending cold emails entirely to then go all in on delivering the service for the client. And the reason this is the largest mistake that I personally made, this is the largest mistake that you can make, is because one of the things I realized is when it comes to outreaching, when it comes to client acquisitions, there's a lot of momentum involved, right? So I talk to a lot of people every single day where maybe it took them three weeks to land the first client. They're doing all this work. It took them three weeks to land their first client. And once they landed their first client, they landed their second client maybe three days later. And then they landed a third client two days after that. So what happened was it took them three weeks to land their very first clients, but it took them another week to land another two clients. And why is that now? The reason why is because outreach is very momentum dependent. Now, the other reason why you need to make sure that you're leaving on your client acquisition and marketing systems on at all times is because, let's say you have a client, everything is going well, and two weeks in the client, something unfortunate happens, something unforeseen happens as completely unrelated to you as a service provider. And they say, hey, Jimmy, we can't go move forward with the service anymore. We can't continue paying you because we got scammed and we just lost all our money, and we're not making any money anymore, and we can't afford your services anymore. So what happens, right, that one client that you worked really, really hard to get, now they're no longer your clients, but you also don't have your client acquisition systems, and you don't have your marketing systems running, meaning you are back to zero. You're back to ground zero. And you now need to start that entire process all over again to land your next clients. And that's exactly why you should never turn off your client acquisition systems and your marketing channels. But what you could do instead is if you know that you're reaching your capacity, you're reaching your kind of your bandwidth, and you can't really just take on more clients. You could make a wait list. You could tell all the people who are interested in working with you, hey, John, we are kind of at max capacity right now. We'll probably be there for the next four to six weeks. If it's cool with you, we could put you on a wait list. And after we have more availability and we have more bandwidth, we can start working with you. How does that sound? That's one thing you could do, start a wait list. So as you are going through the process of going from zero to $10,000 a month, you're going from zero clients to getting your first client, your second client, your third client, it's very important that you document the entire thing and you create what's called a sales asset. Now, what a sales asset does is, is, as the name implies, is an asset that helps you sell your service. And one of the most common, the most effective sales assets are content, right? YouTube videos. And what you could talk about in your YouTube videos is you could talk about your business, your business journeys, some insights that you have learned, or just marketing, and just things that you're learning in general as you're going through the process of going from zero to signing your first new client and getting them great results. Because the reason why you need to do this is because, again, in this online business world, there's a lot of people in the online space. And again, right? It just comes back to the idea that people don't know you, people don't like you, people don't trust you. And how can we take people, random people on the Internet to trust you, to like you, and believe what you do to the point where they're ready to send you thousands of dollars in exchange for your service? Now, the best way to do that is by leveraging content. In this content, you are building trust, you're showcasing your authority, and you're showing people that you are the expert at what you do. Now, one of the best ways to create sales assets is once you have a client and you're getting them results, what you want to do is document that process, make a YouTube video about how you're delivering the service and getting your client great results. And obviously, once you get your client great results, you then want to get a testimonial, right? Jump on a zoom call with their clients, ask them some questions, learn about what they were doing before they started working with you, ask them what they think about your service, ask them what they recommend, recommend your service, have an interview, right? And then leverage that as part of a case study and leverage that as part of your testimonial. That's what you need to do, right? And because you're leveraging these case studies in a way It's a compounding effect because again, remember what I said, which is getting your very first client is the hardest thing you will ever do inside your business. Why is that? It's because you don't have any proof that what you do works. But once you have case studies, now you have proof, and you're leveraging that case study to go get your next client. You get your next client, you're then creating another sales asset, you're then getting another case study, now you have two case studies, now you're leveraging those two case studies to get your next client. And the whole cycle just goes around and around and around. And before you know it, you're able to get clients really, really easy because you just have a ton of proof that what you do works, and you are an expert at what you do. And you could get the specific result that you are trying to pitch these random people that on the Internet. So I talk to a lot of people every single day, and when I tell them to create content, they kind of say, oh, Jimmy, but I don't want to create content. I don't like how I look in camera. I don't know. Or like how I sound in camera. I don't move the right way. And I completely understand because that's a fear. And creating content is hard, but business is hard. But I think I want to explain it to you why you want to create content using this example. So let's say you are looking for an accountant to file your taxes. You're just walking down the street and you see two flyers of two different accountants. Now, accountant one, he has a lot of content online. You search up his name, you search up his accounting firm, and he just has a YouTube channel with 20 different videos talking about how to file your taxes, how to incorporate about all these different things. Now, the second accountant that you found in the street, the second flyer, you search up his name, you search up his accounting firm, and you see absolutely nothing. He doesn't exist. His name doesn't exist. He doesn't have a YouTube channel. He doesn't have a LinkedIn page. He doesn't even have a website. Now ask yourself, which of those two accountants will you choose? Will you choose the accountant who has a lot of content, or will you choose the accountant who has zero online presence? Now, the answer is pretty clear. We all know what the answer is. You're going to choose accountant one, the accountant who has a lot of content. Because after you watch through some of his content, you. You would then see, this is who he is, this is what he looks like, this is how he moves, this is the service he delivers. This might be some case studies of other clients that he has filed tax returns for. This is the tax return that they were able to get, et cetera, et cetera. And that's the exact same thing and the exact same reason why you need to be creating content inside your business, right? What I realized is most people in this online space, they just don't want to create content again, right? Because it is hard. So if you are able to create content, talking about your process, talking about your insights, teaching people the things that you're learning on your day to day basis, you are literally in the 1% of the online business space because 99% of people simply don't want to do it. There's a really great quote. Success comes to people who are willing to do what 99% of people are not willing to do. So keep that in mind next time that you know that you need to create content. But for some whatever reasons, you, you just procrastinate and you end up not creating content because you need to be doing this as you're building your business. And it is the quickest and easiest way to grow your business and go from zero to $10,000 a month in 2024. So as you're doing this, let's say you have a client or you have two clients, or maybe even three clients. What you need to be doing is making sure that you're delivering great results for your clients. And this isn't rocket science, because if you're selling people a service, you're telling people that you will help them get five appointments a month and you simply don't deliver. You're no better than an Internet scammer, right? You're just taking all the money and not delivering the service that you promised them, that you sold them when you collected their cash, right? So you're no different from a scammer. And you need to be making sure that you're delivering great results for your clients. I have never seen anyone, I've never come across a single person who's been able to consistently scale past $10,000 a month without delivering great results and getting good service, good results for the clients. And again, it's not rocket science because the better results you're able to get, the more cases you get. And similar to what I mentioned earlier, it's a compounding cycle where the hardest part is getting your first case study. And once you get your case study, you're leveraging that to get your next client, you get a second case study, you're collecting that all over again, and leverage that in a circle. And before you know it, you have 10 case studies that you will be using on a day to day basis to get your next client. It'll be extremely, extremely easy. Extremely, extremely simple. Again, it's not rocket science. Now, there's a lot of people online who really talks about the importance of just raising your prices. But one of the things that they don't talk about is you can't just randomly increase the prices for no good reason. So let's say you're charging $2,000 a month right now. You can't just randomly wake up tomorrow and just say, screw it, I'm going to charge $5,000 a month for my service. Because that's not how it works. You could raise Your prices to $5,000 a month, but what will happen is almost no one will just buy it. And the reason why is because you are selling to business owners. These are very smart people. They're not stupid, right? They're not dumb. They're not dumb people. The reason why business owners buy any service is because they see a tangible roi. They see a return for the amount of money that they are paying you. So what I mean by that is if you are selling them a Service that for $2,000, in a business owner's mind, the way they will think is, all right, by investing $2,000, I'm going to make back $10,000 as an example, right? The numbers might vary, but if you suddenly increase your prices to $5,000 a month without figuring a way to deliver a greater return for your clients, for these business owners now, what they see is, okay, I'm investing $5,000 and I'm getting back $10,000 a month back as a return, suddenly the return isn't that great. And that's exactly what business owners think. So before you increase the prices, you need to make sure that you are leveling up your skill set. You're getting better and better results for your clients. Because once you're getting better results for your clients, you're now able to charge higher prices. You're now able to go from charging $2,000 a month in the beginning to now charging $5,000 to now charging $6,000, $7,000. And that is the quickest way to grow and in your business, because it's very simple math, obviously, you could have 10 clients all paying you $1,000 per month, or you could have two clients paying you $5,000 a month. Which one do you think will be easier for you to continue scaling business? Now, obviously, the answer is having two clients paying you $5,000 a month. But obviously, in order to actually charge $5,000 a month, you need to show them how you can make them $50,000 a month back in your business. And the only way to that you're able to deliver $50,000 worth of value for your clients is by leveling up your skillset, showcasing how you could get them great results, and helping them just make more money. So that's the cornerstone of success in this business. You need to be making sure you are leveling up your skillset. You're getting your clients great results, you're delivering great results, helping them make a lot of money. And that's the key to growing your business. Now you have a couple of clients. You, you're at between five and 20 clients. You're probably somewhere between 15 to 30 thousand dollars a month. Now, this is kind of where the fun really begins, because this is where you're starting to build a real business, rather than it just being yourself and you delivering all the services, and you doing all the work, and you doing all the replies, you just sending all the code. It goes from you having a team and building a business, as opposed to you just doing everything by yourself. Now, this is the part where your main focus will be primarily on hiring different people for your team. Because once you get to around this mark, between 15 and $30,000 a month, this is kind of where I see that most people kind of just get stuck on and just hover around. And the reason why is because they're not focusing on leverage. Because as you're scaling your business, you're going from zero to, let's say, $10,000 a month. It's very easy to do that because all you need to do is, is just stack on another client for $2,000 a month or stack on another client for $3,000 a month, and you have three of those clients paying you $3,000, you're at $9,000 a month, and you just need another one, and you'd be past $10,000 a month. But once you get to, let's say, $30,000 a month, you probably wouldn't just be able to stack on 10 more clients to scale to $50,000 per month. That's simply not how it works. What you need to be focusing on is leverage. How can you leverage other people's time and leverage other people's skill? Because up until now, you're making as much money as what your skillset and what your time capacity allows. But after a certain while, you simply are not the most skilled marketer, you're probably not the most skilled salesperson, and you also only just have 24 hours in a day. So what you need to be doing is hiring different people so that you can either buy back your time but or you're hiring people who are more skilled at a very specific area of your business who could help you to continue growing. So one of the biggest things that I learned is a lot of people, myself included. When I was first starting my business, what I did was I just hired people simply because I just didn't want to do something. There was a very specific task and I just found it super tedious. I found it super boring. I just hated to actually do it. So what I did was I went out to find someone to help me do this instead. But this is a massive mistake. Because what you want to be doing as you're hiring people is you want to be hiring people where there is pain. So you shouldn't be hiring people because you just don't like the actual job. What you should be doing is hiring people to do that job because your time is simply better spent doing something else. Simply focusing on marketing or operations or hiring people or building systems and really just focusing on what you can do to to level up your business and get it to the next revenue target. So that's one of the biggest mistakes I see people make is just kind of hiring too soon and hiring simply because they're just lazy and they don't want to do the job as opposed to hiring to do a role that they simply shouldn't be doing anymore. So at around this point, a really good role that you might want to start looking to hire for is, let's say, a salesperson. And this will really hammer home the idea. Because you'll be hiring a salesperson not because you hate taking sales calls or not because you suck at sales. You're hiring a salesperson simply because your time is better spent doing a lot of other things inside the business other than just talking to people, talking to prospects and trying to sell them on your service. Your time is better spent other things. Or you're hiring an inbox manager, someone who will reply back to your emails not because you hate doing it, not because you hate replying back to leads, but simply because your time is better spent focusing on marketing as opposed to just simply replying back to people. So at around this level, from 15 to 30k per month, from 5 to 20 clients. What you need to be doing is focusing on leverage and hiring different people to buy back your time or people who are more skilled than you. So now what I want to do is give you a realistic timeline of what you can expect to build your business and go from zero to. To $50,000 per month. So starting from zero to $10,000 per month, at this stage of your business, you are just starting out. You are. You have zero experiences, you have zero case studies. You simply don't know anything. You might think that you know a lot about business, you might think you know about what you need to do, but the truth is, is you simply don't know. So what you need to be doing at this phase is learning. Learning as much as you can about the specific service that. Learning as much as you can about business and surrounding yourself with other people who are making more money and who are a little bit more successful than where you are right now in your business. That's what you should be doing. That's the first thing you should be doing, focusing on learning. And obviously a really good way to do that, as you know, as a recap, is to actually do the service that you're selling. So if you're selling cold emails, make sure you're sending cold emails. If you're selling ads, make sure you're running ads for yourself. If you're selling video editing, make sure you're editing your own videos and putting them onto YouTube to demonstrate to people that you know what you're doing. That's the first thing you should be doing. The second thing you should be doing is prospecting and reaching out to new people, figuring out what you can do to get as much attention and as much traffic as you can, as much eyeballs as humanly possible onto your business to get as many people to know about who you are, what you sell, and how you can help them. That's the only thing that, that you need to be doing. So from what I have seen, if you are fully committed, it is not unrealistic to go from zero to $10,000 per month in the first 90 days. But obviously you're not going to do that by not being fully committed. I'm talking about people who are fully committed. They're all in on their business, they're fully committed. And I know you might be watching this video and you're hearing me say you could go from zero to $10,000 per month in the next 90 days, and that might not seem like a lot that seems or sounds like very short, but which it is. But the thing you have to realize is once you are that person who's waking up every single day for 90 days straight, where you're trying 10 different things inside your business every single day, and 99% of those things that you're trying simply fail and don't work. That's when it gets hard. That's the feeling of business is hard. And that's where 99% of people just stop. People just quit, essentially. And those are why people just, you know, 99% of people simply don't ever make money or don't ever hit $10,000 a month in your business. But if you're fully committed, you go all in, you're resilient, and you simply don't give up, and you simply don't stop. I've seen people go from zero to $10,000 per month in the first 90 days now, going from $10,000 per month to $50,000 per month again, right? That's where the fun really starts, because that's where you start to make enough money to pay all your bills, to. To buy things here and there, to have some fun. You know, go out for dinners and things like that. That's where you get a little bit more room, more breathing room to enjoy the money that you're making. It's also more fun because that's when you're going to be focusing on building an actual business. Right? One of the biggest things that I learned in business is when it comes to business growth, again, right? It's always the hardest in the beginning. You need the most amount of momentum just getting it off the ground. So what I want to think about is think about, like a rocket ship. Think about a rocket launch. If you've ever seen a video of a rocket taking off from the ground, it takes the most amount of energy to go from the ground and just go through and take off. And once that rocket is, let's say, 50 meters in the sky, it still takes a lot of fuel, but you don't need as much momentum as you did to get it off the ground. And business is the exact same thing. Results compound. So what I've seen people do is I've seen people go from $10,000 a month to $50,000 per month in six to nine months after they hit their first $10,000 a month. And the reason why is because at that point, for those next six to nine months, the only thing they're doing is focusing on hiring, focusing on marketing and Focusing on collecting case studies and delivering great results for their clients. It's simple, but 100% not easy. So with that being said, as a realistic timeline, you are literally 90 days away from having a business that makes you $10,000 per month. And if you're doing the right things and you're following everything that I outlined in this video today, you are basically a year away from having a business that makes you $50,000 per month. So if you go into the description, you're going to see two links. Now the first link is to a YouTube video which I made. It's a free course that, where I show you exactly everything you need to know and a step by step process to start and build your own lead generation agency. That's a completely free YouTube video. I'm getting a lot of great feedback and there's a lot of people just watching that video, taking some notes and implementing the step by step things and making money and signing the first few clients using that video. Now the second link is my calendar link to set up a call with me. And this is for you if you, if you want to build your own lead generation agency and get it to $10,000 per month in the next 90 days. And every single one of these videos that I make, I get a few comments here and there of people saying, oh, this guy's just selling a course. This is not a course. The course is simply the video aspect of things where I walk people through, specifically how to set up the business, how to scrape leads, how to do all of these different things, how to build your website, how to. And it shows you the end to end of how to actually do the things inside the business. But it's not a course. This is a consulting program. Because where most people get value is where I work with them to help them, number one, pick a niche craft, the offer, write their cold email campaigns, write their vsl, troubleshoot their campaigns and help them and hand hold them to get their business from zero to $10,000 per month in the next 90 days. So if that's you, then use that link, click the second link and go and set up a time where we'll chat to see how this could work for you. But just as a word of caution, this is not a get rich quick scheme. This is not for you if you're not fully committed. This is not for you if you think you could become a millionaire in the next two weeks by doing absolutely nothing. This is a business. This is hard. It will be harder than you can think, but it's not rocket science, right? It's not super. You know, you don't need to be the next Elon Musk in order to make $10,000 a month in your business. You don't need to become the next Jeff Bezos to make $50,000 per month inside your business. So that's pretty much all I wanted to say in today's video. Hope you found this valuable. If you did, make sure you drop me a. Like, make sure you drop me. Subscribe and I'll see you in the next video. See ya.
