Transform Your Team’s Innovation & Collaboration in 60 Minutes With Personality Poker®

Stephen Shapiro leads a live workshop using Personality Poker, a card game that sorts people into four types: diamonds for creative thinkers, clubs for planners, hearts for people-focused members, and spades for detail-oriented workers. Participants pick cards that describe them, then trade to find complementary differences and build better teams.
Personality Poker.
Personality Poker.
Personality Poker. Personality Poker.
There is irrefutable scientific evidence that opposites don't attract. They detract, they repel. But in the world of business, let me tell you, the fact that opposites don't attract is a big issue. Because if you want your organization to be innovative, you need to embrace diverse points of view, diverse perspective, diverse experiences, and diverse personalities. And if you don't do that, you don't have innovation. Organization. Organizations do a terrible job of collaboration. We hire people who fit the mold. Unfortunately, if you only hire people who fit the mold, eventually your organization will grow.
Mold.
Twenty years ago, I created this thing called Personality Poker. Dive right into it. Should all have five cards in front of you. So why don't you grab your five cards and I want you to look at the words on the cards. So the goal of personality Poker is really simple. You want to get five cards where the words best describe how you see yourself. This is who you are, not who you wish you were. When I look at my five cards, I have creative. And then the last card, the card that's absolutely not like me at all, is the organized card. In fact, I am a disorganized mess. Anyone in this room who would like to trade my organized card? What would you like to trade? Disorganized. Disorganized is about as perfect as you could get. Thank you very much. So everybody stand up. Let's get some music going, do some trading. What did you got?
I got hearts.
Hearts. I could tell the second I met you, you were going to be all hearts. 4.
How many of you have four?
Four of the same suit. Great. Just curious, what did you have?
The fact that it was interactive. It had you interacting with other participants in the presentation as well as moving around.
If you have 10 through 8, that means you are really smart and you want everyone else to know that you are really smart. Raise your hand if you are a club. That means you like plans and planning. You like process. How the work gets done is important to you.
Completely different, deeper, innovative in how he came about it.
When we talk about somebody who's creative, we tend to be thinking about the diamonds because they are into new ideas. Diamonds in general are into novelty.
Such a valuable and important concept in how you can take the different elements of the spectrum and put them together to create those cross functional teams.
We know that hearts are people who like people and Barbra Streisand songs. The most important part of personality poker that you're gonna discover is who you are is less important than who you are, not.
Personality poker. It's the structure that I've been missing in my business.
Your team should be playing with a full deck. There's probably somebody who drives you crazy. Somebody you probably don't want to hang around with. Somebody who, if you had your chance, would just push them aside. Who is the person that drives you crazy that could be changing your life? The suits that I don't have in my hand. Tell me the people I need. Look at your hand and ask yourself, who do you need?
