It's Always About the Women

A satirical dialogue arguing that public discourse magnifies women's problems while ignoring men's real struggles: the Vietnam draft, child support, custody battles, male suicide. The speakers use examples like The Handmaid's Tale to show how fictional female oppression gets more outrage than actual male hardships.

Have you ever noticed that whenever there's a discussion about sexism, or differences in the way men and women are treated, it's almost always about the woman, and almost never, ever about the man? If you've had just about enough of that, this upcoming video is for you. I'm not sure who created it, but here is a succinct satire of the problem we're talking about: Magnify the problems women face. Ignore the problems facing men. Make it all about the woman, all the time. There's a TV show that does that a lot. Handmaid's Tale is a story in which the government takes control of women's bodies so they can make babies. It's fiction. But we must always fret and worry and be outraged about sexism against women, even when it's fictional, and ignore sexism against men. Even when it's real. Yes, I saw that horrifying show where the government seized control of people's bodies purely on the basis of their sex. Oh, you were talking about the fictional story of Handmaid's Tale. I was talking about the real-life documentary of the Vietnam War. Fred Hayward of Men's Rights Inc. said: If men were being drafted and sent off to war, to kill and to be killed, and the president ordered women to wear flowers in their hair as a sign of peace, women would say, "Wear flowers in our hair? We will not! That's sexist!" Here's a clip from Handmaid's Tale that specifically, explicitly minimizes, even belittles, the fact that men can experience horrific injustice at the hands of women.
Someone once said, "Men are afraid that women will laugh at them.
Women are afraid that men will kill them." No, June, men's worst fear about women isn't that women will laugh at us. Let's try something like this: Someone once said women are afraid men won't notice their new hairdo. Men are afraid that women will have children with another man and not say anything until he has come to love them as his own, and then she tells him the truth and divorces him and takes the kids and never lets him see them and still gets an order for him to pay child support until they're 21. And then the woman will laugh, and nobody will care. And then he'll commit suicide. Let's make sure the world cares about men and boys as much as it cares about women and girls.
