Jack Conte plays a Radiohead cover, then makes a political case against banning gay marriage. He compares it to how we now view 1950s family values, asking viewers to imagine their children judging today's attitudes as outdated and horrifying.

It's the national anthem by Radiohead. Everyone has got fear. It's all right. It's all right. Thanks for watching! Thanks for watching! Hello everybody. Just want to say thanks again for watching, and quick disclaimer: I don't make political videos. This is not a political channel. If you don't want politics, just stop watching right now because I'm about to do just a little bit of politics. Just Just because it really matters right now. It just really matters. So, stop watching if you don't want politics. Okay. Quick thought experiment. We look at videos on YouTube, I look at videos from the '50s, and you see a housewife flipping pancakes, and then she looks at the camera, and she says, my place is in the kitchen, and this is family values in the '50s, and we can't believe this. It feels ridiculous to us. This is what our society was like 50 years ago? How can that be our society 50 years ago? That this sense of family values was so backwards, it was so old-fashioned. My challenge to you is look ahead 50 years from now. In 2008, our kids are going to be watching YouTube videos. Maybe it's not YouTube, maybe it's something else. They're watching videos. What are the issues that they're gonna see? What are the videos that they're gonna watch where they're gonna feel disgusted by society in 2008? Like a lot— like we feel disgusted from old videos, you know, from before the civil rights movement. We see some of those videos, we feel disgusted. It's horrifying how people were treated. What are our kids gonna see? That's a little bit of a crystal ball question. It's unfair. But I have a hunch what one of those issues is going to be. It's coming up in our election right now. When our kids see videos attempting— pushing for, you know, banning gay marriage, they're not going to believe how backwards that is, how old-fashioned it is. That mindset is so old. It's ridiculous. It's horrifying that people are trying to pass this legislation. Horrifying. I use that word deliberately. That's the word I would use to describe this. Horrifying. I hope this doesn't pass. I pray that this doesn't pass. There's no way that that's where our society is going, with all the progress that we've made. There's no way we're moving towards a society where gay marriage is, for some reason, illegal. So, I urge you to look into your hearts, look at progress and justice and fairness. What's going to disgust our children about our society back now? And this proposition is going to be one of those things. So, that's it. Sorry for being political. That's my plea. Ciao. Ciao.
