Jack Conte sings about happiness that swings between extremes. Holding someone's hand makes him feel unstoppable; when sadness hits, diamonds and pearls mean nothing. The song says connection matters more than money.
Sometimes I'm happy and sometimes I'm sad. Sometimes I feel good and sometimes it's bad. When I am happy and I'm holding your hand, well, nothing can stop me, not the sea or the sand. When I feel bad and my head's in a whirl, I can't get happy, not for diamonds or pearls. I just can't get happy, not for diamonds or pearls. Yeah, sometimes I'm happy and sometimes I'm sad. Sometimes I feel good and sometimes it's bad. But when I am happy and I'm holding your hand, nothing can stop me, not the sea or the sand. But when I feel bad and my head's in a whirl, I can't get I just can't get happy, not for diamonds or pearls. I just can't get happy, not for diamonds or pearls.
